Thanks Wayne! I just bought a '99 club car & I'm trying to test everything to see if there's anything wrong with it. Your videos are so helpful. My charger doesn't seem to shut off, but I'm double checking tonight to make sure I leave it plugged in the whole 16 hours. If it still hasnt shut off I'll be ordering the charger repair kit from your web site. Thanks again for all of the great info!

Thank you so much for all the great info. I have a question. I have a 2007 36v EZGO txt pds I am upgrading my batteries to 12cells 105ah LiFePO4 and I need a charger. Most chargers I see for 36v are 3 or 4 amps that would take forever to charge so I found a charger on Dakota Lithium website that charges at 18 amps. So my question is that okay to charge with?

Thanks for the Videos Wayne very educational. I get the strong smell of the batteries acid on my 2017 Precedent with the charger built in the cart when it has been charging for some time. It has the battery watering system as well. Could this be a sign I am putting to much distilled water in the batteries. What are your thoughts. Thanks

You don't get the smell when there is too much water, . Even tho you have a water system, open each cap and make sure there is water in each hole. I think you will be surprised. I have had quite a few systems that were not accurate because a float was stuck or a valve was bad.
Also had new batteries that had a bad cell in them, smell like that.

Wayne I thank you for all your help and videos, now comes my question I recently changed my receptacle on my club car 48 volt golf cart. Now when I plug in my charger it goes to the 15 amp all the way to the right drops down to like 10 amps after 5 minutes and then shuts off. The problem is when we try to ride the golf cart it has very little power as if the batteries are low. I've checked each battery individually and read about 8.4 volts, and when I checked the whole series of batteries I'm reading 51 volts. I'm wondering if there's a safety built in that if the batteries are overly dead and the charger tries to charge too fast it just shuts down or if it's possible the OBC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much. Larry

2 Things to try is 1st, If you can try your charger on someone else's cart someone else's cart and try someone else's charger on your cart that would tell us if the problem is in the charger or the cart for sure.
Next you can try resetting your OBC by disconnecting all the wires off the main positive battery terminal and let it sit for about 15 minutes then hook it backup

Hi Wayne. I need to ask the expert. I want to replace in my Genie Lift the Lestronic ll 48 volt batter charger with a Power Drive 48 volt battery charger. I disconnected the 2 main wire coming in to the battery charger and then pulled the 3 prong cable out of the Power Drive unit. The 2 main wires I placed on the Power Drive board, but then I had the "blue" communication wire left. I cut a section of it out of the main cable and plugged it back in to where it was. My question is "will this swap work as a Smart Charger if that blue wire is not connected any where? When we touch it to the left side of the meter gauge there is "activity", but we are not sure if that is supposed to happen, or if this wire has to be connected somewhere else to make it a smart charger?
    Looking forward to your advise.

Hello. I have a cart im messing with, i thought i would try the cheap walmart marine batteries. 12v x4 with the powerdrive 2. I suspect this charger burned them out prematurely. Could this be possible? Seems like in mid cycle the voltage goes really high like 60 plus volts!

Marine batteries will not last in a golf cart, at the very most maybe 1 year.
They are not deep cycle golf cart batteries.
Buy the cheapest golf cart batteries that either Costco or Sam's sells and you will be fine.
Those Marine batteries won't hold a charge.

Hi Wayne, I have a 2003 DS with the original power drive charger, but never know if I charge it long enough. I recently replaced all the batteries and ran at a full meter for quite a few decent trips around the neighborhood and charged it when meter began to drop on cart. What is odd is I feel like I have not gotten back to that original battery install state as charge does seem to drop quicker than expect now. I can do a full 18 and normally just under halfway on cart meter, but if want to try for another round it would seem like need to charge up again. Wondering if I am just not charging long enough since a manual charger (original power drive). Typically around 5-7 amps when I disconnect the charger and most have charged was 4 to 41/2 hours. Appreciate any suggestions and/or questions.

You are slowly killing your batteries that's probably why your last set didn't last.
Once you plug that charger and you need to leave it alone, do not unplug it, Let it turn itself off.
When you unplug it while it's still hovering at 5 amps you're not getting a full charge.
Also it's a bad idea to try to squeeze more than one round a golf in without charging them.

Worst case, do not let charger run for more than 16 hours.
However, without a proper functioning charger, there is no way you will get the life out of the batteries, that you should .

If charger does not shut off, the issue is most probably either the obc or a bad battery.

Wayne, I just found your channel. I love the content. I recently purchased a 2005 ds. I installed new batteries. It works but the charger doesn’t seem to. The needle on the meter never moves and every time I use the cart the it is only going a a mile or two at most. The charger never stops humming no matter how long I leave it connected. I have the 1st charger. Do you think it’s the obc? If I by pass the obc, do I need a new charger? I look forward to your input.

I just bought 4 x 12 volt batteries. The directions say, charge after the battery gets to 50% and then charge for the first 12 times and then charge as normal. My question is should I do as directed and then charge after every time I use the car? Or should I charge after everytime I use the car anyway even if the batteries are new. And How do I tell if the batteries are at 50% with a voltage meter? Thank you sir. I am a subscriber.

    • @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900
      @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900  Рік тому

The very first charge should take the longest, don't unplug the charger until it has turned itself off.
After that you should charge your cart at the end of any day you use it.
If you let your cart get to 50%, they are considered dead, and you may not make it home if you are driving.
That is not correct, I have never heard of a lead acid battery company telling to let a battery get down to 50 %

He’s already changed the key switch. He changed the little switch of micros switch that someone told him to change and it’s still doing it. Great video. I just installed 6 new batteries and charged it for 2-3 few hours and it did not stop charging. So I unplugged it because I noticed a rotten egg smell from the batteries. I tested all the batteries and they are fine since they are new, but when I hook the charger on to the golf cart, it just keeps charging and it won't shut off. I have not charged it more than 16 hours. Should I keep charging it for 16 hours as you suggested even if it has the rotten egg smell? Is it normal for new batteries to smell like rotten eggs? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    • @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900
      @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900  2 роки тому

Yes, plug it in and leave it alone until it shuts itself off, if it does not turn off after 16 hours, then unplug it.
It should turn off by itself.
Make sure you have water in all holes andre all the plates are covered in water.
That egg smell will go away after 2 or 3 charges.
If it doesnt go away after you have been driving it and charging it a few times, then check each hole again for loss of water, at that point it is possible there could be a bad cell, but kind of rare.

@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Here is what my golf cart is experiencing. I have six new batteries and it does take about 16 hours before the charger will shut off. My issue is that it does it every time I plug it in. Even if I just drive it down the street and plug it up. It will take like over night before it stops charging. This has been going over 3 weeks now and I had to refill the batteries with distilled water twice already. I am about to fill up the batteries with distilled water for the third time because it already looks low. I noticed that this 16 hour charging cycle is boiling the battery water and evaporating it, so that's why I am on my third water refill in three weeks. You have any suggestions I can try? Thanks.

sounds like your obc is not working right.
Try resetting your obc, remove all wires from the main positive battery pack terminal. Let it sit that way for 10 minutes, then hook all wires back up and charge.
If it takes 16 hours to charge, at that point, either replace the obc or bypass it.

If you have a power drive charger, you can leave it plugged in the cart.
You should charger the batteries, at the end of any day that you use the cart, DO NOT wait until it is discharged! Never let the batteries get below 50 %.
