Hey Matt thanks for the tips I have your hover jigheads and I have them rigged on a strike king baby z too and on the z man 3.75 streaks soft jerk baits . I also have the strike king filler worm witch is flat on the back of the bait. You guys where saying that makes the bait glide better. Thanks again for the video God bless.
Yes sir.i used the hooks yesterday before work with a bubble gum fluke and was wreaking small mouth...keep um coming!
That hover rig hook makes a ton of baits do tricks , I really like it , incredible action
@@SpookyRedz use a cross snap. I've been playing with them in my pool. They can do 360's.
@@secretbassrigs really , thanks for the info , now I will be putting a cross snap on it
I got the 3/64 size took them out yesterday an caught 4 smallies the first 10 min of using it on a zman trick shotz. Might be my new favorite rig to use, will definitely be buying more!
I’ve discovered the Manns jelly bug is a similar presentation to the flatworm but broader body so it glides differently. Two baits I’m very interested to try is the maxscent flat nose minnow and the super trooper on the 3/64
I’ve used my Core Hover Rigs with a couple of buoyant baits, like the Yamamoto Shadshape worm floater. I have had success along those stair step rock walls, and I even gave a couple to some of the guys in my club. I will definitely use some of the baits you mentioned. I snipped the wire off on a 1/8th just to see how it would act, it’s still a new method to me but I can see it working well once I have more time with it. Good Luck 🍀🎣🍀💯 Thanks 🙏
Great job showing us just how versatile the Hover Rig can be, I cant wait to get out and try my new supply of these fine heads!!!
Thanks brother, I’ve been tossing it a bunch on Kentucky with no luck, however the bass in my pond absolutely smash it with a pit boss!
Hey Matt! Have you had much luck throwing a paddle tail swimbait on the Hover Rig? I've been sticking with mostly pin tail style baits, but I was thinking about trying 'em out with a paddle tail...
I have used it and have had success. Give it a try to see if you like it
Hey Matt! so I have not had a chance to try it yet, but I have all three hover rig hooks set with 3 different small baits. The one that looks the best is the reaction innovation 3.5 shiver shot. As you probably know it’s a small fluke style. I have one rigged up in white and another rigged up in green pumpkin swirl to imitate a bream.
I took a spunk shad off my vibrating jig and used it as a hover rig. It looks great! The possibilities are endless with the hover rig, it's been fun to experiment.
That is awesome. I cannot wait to try them out. I have them in with my new tackle for this season. Got out last night for the first time bass fishing for the season. And Sunday for trout. I can't wait to give these a try
Got my hover rigs today. Went to a small local lake for a little under an hour to try them out with a maxscent flat worm. Ended up catching 3, had 2 come off, and had several more bites. Super happy with the hover rig. Thanks, Matt!
Matt, Thanks for the enthusiastic innovation and testing presentations. I love these types of ideas and the pursuit of new and better ways to present lures. Along these lines, have you taken time to watch any “balanced fly” videos? If not, I strongly recommend these to you and your viewers. The concept is to create flies and jigs that suspend perfectly horizontal in the water and behave much like the hover baits you are presenting here. Any float-n-fly or finesse fisherman needs to explore this as it will fundamentally change what you tie up as “jigs” the next time you sit down at the bench.
Great video. Deps bull flat (panfish shape) and bull slender (shad shape) should be good along with OSP Dolive Beaver. Going to try all 3.
The googan baits crackn craw with the rattle on the 3/32 for dirty water shallow applications. I’ve been tearing them up on eufaula this year. Love these hooks!
The 3/32 fits a Lunkerhunt finesse frog. There it is, giving ya'll my secret hover pond bait. 😎
Hello Matt, Good Luck in the tournament. I will be using it on a 4 inch Berkley Ring Worm on my lake this year.
Really love this hook used it on so many baits. The one I’ve really done well on is the Deps bullflat. Thanks your awesome
I just went to Core through your link and ordered some of those hooks. I think those may work awesome up here in Northern Michigan in all our crystal clear water in a finesse setup.
Down in FL right now and your Core Tackle Hover Rig is the only thing getting bit regularly. Been using the bigger size Flat Worm, but gonna try some of the ones you showed. Thanks!
@@MattStefanFishing funny. I got them up North, but didn't throw it til I got down South! A little backwards, but all good! Catches em everywhere!
Great video!!! Thanks Matt for giving us ideas on what type of baits to use on the Hover Rig. I have a nice area on a river that the fluke should be good. Also thinking about using the 6th Sense NedFry 4.6 maybe cutting it down to 4". Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
Just watched that swimbait video and there are a LOT of plastics to try out. Some of those bigger ones are begging for 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz versions. My 1/8 oz order should be showing up any day! Keep up the great work!
Matt I tied on the hover stroller with a flatworm and had a dink bass on the first cast, and a 1lb. bass 5 minutes later. I’m buying more!
I ordered 2 packs after your last video! Can't wait for them to show up!
Just got my shipment from core tackle over the weekend! A fish arrow flash-j straight tail looks deadly on the hover rig
The possibilities are endless for this rig I think. So many baits you could use. 🤔
Being from Wisconsin also, it's walleye season... but can't wait to try them out, I got 8 packs 4 of each weights
Im looking forward to putting a flat leach bait on a 1/32 when walleye are being really picky. I think thatll smash em.
Hey Matt. I fish for spotted bass on lake laneir. Question on the baits. Do you not want a bait that normally floats like the fish arrow from japan? I notice the berkley flat worms fall pretty fast even alone. But with a nail weight inside they will fall very fast. Dont you want a very very slow fall to imitate a dying bait fish that will sprial down?
just depends on the situation. sometimes you want to fish a little faster and deeper.
Hey Matt, hey I’ve been having fantastic luck with your new hover rig. Especially on the Berkeley G.Pumpkin max scent flat worm. Also having great luck with 2 others the Strike King KVD G.P. Half shell, and surprisingly the 6th sense 9 1/2 “ long Ridge Worm in plum bug. With 1/8 oz. Hover rig. Thanks man, really enjoying your new invention!!
Matt have you tried throwing this rig with a split ring or a snap swivel and see what type of action you get that way? That might be crazy cool action.
Hey Matt, One major marketing area ya'll might be missing is, I've been using your jigs in SWFL with 3" & 4" swim baits and flukes. The center weight and hover ability vs a standard front heavy jig head on swim baits has been fantastic in south FL saltwater. I've Caught snook, redfish, trout, Spanish Mackerel, Jack crevalle and probably others with your center weighted jigs on swim baits and flukes. I'm heading to Orange Beach Alabama in July for 10 days and have every reason to believe they'll be just as successful there.
@@MattStefanFishingThat's great but the 3/0 is fine for most Inshore applications. Would be nice to have a 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 oz 3/0 or 4/0 hook size. I think in the application I'm using them, the "glide" isn't so much what I'm looking for in these heavier weights. It's the ability to hide the weight. In super clear water that's critical. Plus with the fantastic life like swim bait options we have today, hiding the weight really allows those to shine. It really looks real. All while using a more center rigged tie point that allows for a more horizontal retrieve and fall on the pause in lieu of nose first fall. Again, life like, real retrieve. I think this is a massive market you're not taking advantage of. You're now marketing guys. Think outside your bass fishing love. 😂
I like strike king and i used the rage bug on my new hover rig and it worked good , but i went through 3 or 4 because of durability (softness) so i want to try berkley. Thanks matt.
I wanna try the Berkley gilly with the hover rig 👀 think it would work?? Probably rigged on its side and you’d have a dying bluegill hovering around
Just ordered some on Sunday. Cannot WAIT to fish this thing. I was thinking about baits to use on this at work today, low and behold I see this video! ❤
Looking forward to using different zman baits on it.
@@MattStefanFishing I am having trouble getting the top of the hover rig into the nose of the Zman baits. Any ideas?
Having a hard time getting the fish in the boat, loosing fish, Do you have a good way to hook up ?
Try a faster action rod maybe. I really have no hookup issues with the hover rig
The Big Swimbait fisherman in me would love to see a version of this for 6-8 inch caliber of profiles.
Ok you got me I’ll switch beef jerky brands. I want to support brands that allow you to help me fish better.
The zoom fat albert curl tail grubs have such a slow glide with this setup and can get really far glide's sometimes with the tail doing it's thing, it's just killer and haven't heard anyone talking about them hopefully you can try them out soon! Good luck out there and stay safe!!
I thought about using that setup for my kids for some river smallies this summer…. The traditional jighead hangs up easily in shallow rivers in between the rocks but I think this rig will better avoid the snags for my young anglers.
@@mike2687 good luck with it and hope you run into some good ones when you get out there! I fish river's and that's my biggest problem was the hangups with traditional jig heads
I think there will be a ton of soft plastics it will work on. Have you talked to tackle warehouse about an order from you. I hope you didn't show them how it works on a pretzel rig. Question, seeing as you no longer have to put the weight in the front do you hook the bait deeper down inside?
There’s a couple other videos where he shows how to rig it, I can’t remember which ones exactly. Basically, go about 1/4 down from the head of the bait and insert the hook and go to the bend before rotating the hook out of the bait. Then pinch the plastic at the head of the bait and bring it over the front of the weight
here is how i rig it. you can go deeper if you like to get different falls ua-cam.com/video/ect12tzeXMg/v-deo.html
@@MattStefanFishing Thank you. The Depth is what I was asking about and by going back and watching that video again I can see how deep you put the hook.
Does the floating elaztech with the 1/8oz slow the fall down so it will glide like the lighter jig head?
I tried the larger size this weekend.
I found it difficult to rig the soft plastic on it without ripping it trying to cover the front point. I also didn't get any bites on it.
I'm thinking it's not for me.
What about hooking a 90 size Gilly through its side so it’s flat side is facing down?
I wonder how a Megabass Spark Shad would do on hover? It has the side fins which would keep it horizontal
i just ordered some of the hooks, how long to get them do you think?
What’s your typical rod/line set up for both hover rig weights?
8 lb fluoro lede to a ML spinning rod and 15 lb straight fluoro on a MH baitcaster
If I could make a suggestion . Everyone has a video about setting up our units. No one has a GOOD video about how to locate what we see on our screens. I know what a different items on my screen are, WHAT I DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT ITEM IS IN THE WATER IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE SCREEN. It's kind of like oh look there's a rock pile. Now where the heck is it in the water. That would be a very helpful video for those of us who have enough money to buy all these electronic but not enough sense to use them. Just a thought. P.S. when the vid goes viral Ill let you know where to mail the check.
Put a chase bait flacid shad the thin fins on this bait really glides on the 1/8
I've had good luck with both the Chasebaits Love Bug (same thin undulating fins as the Flaccid Shad) and the 10,000 Fish Yoto Worm. They both glide for days...especially the Love Bug with those rippling fins. You gotta be careful rigging 'em though, because they're prone to split lengthwise along the tail if you don't get the hook centered just right.
Also had good luck with the Z-Man Razor Shadz, but rigging elaztech on the hooks is a monumental pain in the ass!
Thank you Matt. The bait development might finance your retirement. This one is a winner.
the weed guard is a legitimate guard, but so close to the hook it can oe difficult to clip, any plans on making them available without the weed guard? it will increase the amount of baits with thicker back sides that can be used, It's also easier to rig and center them on flukes that way. I like to pre make the holes for the hook and line tie, and begin at the hook slot. Fir me, doing it that way causes less damage on softer less durable plastic, like the far to weak plastisol "The Original Castaic" uses on the "Jerky J" (This Castaic company is in Texas not California).
@@frankhunt5018 try it! it's one of the most realistic actions, it's just fun to fish!
I actually just bend the weedguard back and forth several times and it will snap off at the base. We will probably make a non weedguard version as well int he future. thanks for your feedback!
@@MattStefanFishing of course. I knew there was something simple I wasn't doing. Thanks Matt.
I had good luck with it with the flat worm till our waters got muddy.
Hey Matt, can you ship to Ontario Canada, I'd like to order some hover rigs.
Hope you make some a lot money! Great design Matt! Pro fishing ain't cheap. I bought some :))
@MattStefan - I can only speak for myself ; but at 1st I was having problems with rigging. Then it came to me (probably in the shower, where ideas are born )lol..but I came up with a practical, user - friendly way to rig up any soft plastic with the Core hooks ,& its' on my channel . Those of us who aren't sponsored really can't afford to be just tossing a poorly rigged bait away cuz we don't have unlimited resources as far as plastics go. I even demonstrated with a piece of Yamamoto senko, since we all know how soft that is. Its all about making the path for the top conical part 1st,then going back down the bait in a traditional sense. I know yoyu got some @DirtyJigs swimjigs rigged up on that front deck on Ol' #Okeechobee..Y'all on the Clewiston side? Go get em, bud!! #bassfishing #hover #rig
Stick baits and flukes are just nuts on a hover rig! I've caught more fish than I can count using just those 2 plastics. That Dudley neg rig thing from Walmart, whatever it's called, is also really good. Berkeley Ca$h Out as well. Anything with a flatter body and a wiggly tail pairs up with a hover rig like "peas and carrots".
I like the fluke idea for sure, I can't wait until there's no ice
@@MattStefanFishing You're not kidding lol I live in Utah and we've needed the water, the drought has been brutal. But we just got another foot of snow. I'm usually fishing open water by now but the ice is still over a ft thick.
I bought some of the X-Zone Invaders to pair with my hover rigs. It looks like a nice combination. Just waiting on ice out.
I really like the kind of plastisol Xzone uses, soft but not brittle. For flukes, their Whiplash Shad holds on well because it has a longer head than other flukes and provides more support and grip, compared to being mostly hook slot.
I have caught double-digit numbers of bass on pressured ponds in central Texas. My second order is on its way. I've used KVD Dreeam shot, Xzone deception worm, Berkley power bait flat worm, Zoom trick worm, Gary Yamamoto neko fat, Z-man finesse TRD/craw, Googan bandito bug, Missile baits d-bomb/ bady d-bomb, Strike King rage chunk/rage baby craw and stick baits by Strike king/Yum/Yamamoto. I have out fished my friends throwing the same bait/color next to me from the bank, boat, and kayak. This technique is not used by really anyone and it's working for me.
Matt has stated kicking baits don't glide well but I've placed the bait further back in the bait and watched the glide. Just experiment and have fun. A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
Awesome! thanks for sharing your experiences with it! so many good things to learn with it still!
The GYB IKA for the 🏆
I just picked up a coupla packs of the Fat Ika...I'll hafta try one with the Hover Jig.
4:30 can't the black creature bait you are holding up in front of your black shirt. That's not fair!
Good luck at tournament. I have most of those so my bank account is safe from tackle warehouse
OMG...better delete this before your competition sees it. The HOVERING DOUBLE FLUKE RIG. Weighted on bottom and floating/neutral on top! I just might fish this until the dog days hit us.
Not sure if anyone remembers this lite but it reminds me of the flying lure 😂 old school bait that was a as seen on tv thing
Matt, Thank you for all the good info you give to all us working man average Joe fisherman. I wish you the very best. You have a gift for teaching. May God bless you and your Family.
