I now have a dedicated terminal box just for my core tackle rigs and when the bass aren’t biting this rig it is killer for crappie. Been watching your channel from the beginning and wish you lots of luck next year even though they keep CHANGING THE FREAKING RULES! Enjoyed the podcast today.
I need to give that rig a try! Have you ever tried the heavier ones (1/8 and up) with a more finesse baitcasting setup say 30 lb braid to 10-12 flouro? That may work really sweet for pitching around weedlines? Bummer on the recent BPT changes especially for you as a rookie next year. My guess is that most of the top 35 guys for lifetime AOY will also be in the top 35 for 2024 alone too so you could have some more wiggle room for re-qualifying but who knows?! Your main competition in either case could be the other rookies in the same situation as you and that looks to be a really stout class! Best of luck Matt, I'll be rooting for you!
Great stuff. Gives me ideas. Being able to instantly switch from fishing the bottom to move up to suspended fish without having to change rods is such a useful advantage to have. Even more so for me fishing out of a kayak. Thanks for sharing.
Love how successful you are getting. What are your go-to hover rig weight sizes? River vs lake? (What about beginners? (What do you give Hank to use?) Thanks as usual!
That's how I always know when I've had a good day Smallmouth fishing. When I am soaked and wet cuz boy do they love to pay you back with a good Splash when you put them back. Love the core tackle hover rig
When using a hover rig and rig it like showed is the hook supose to be exposed on top of the bait like swim bait or hook be facing down as you retrieve the hover rig. Can you please show how it looks. I may not be doing something right when fishing hook points down . Thanks
You start rigging it a 1/4 inch below the top of the worm . I show in the video how to rig it. There are also pictures on the back of the hover rig package.
I'm going to fish this more and was wondering about the 1/8 on a full-size fluke. Will the bait have the same darting action but be able to be fished deeper. I like the fluke but on just a WG hook it tends to jump out of the water if I fish it fast.
You know I had never noticed the similarities between this rig and a tube but- they are very similar huh? Both have the weight internally right behind the head, both have 90-degree line ties set back from the front of the bait, and both can have that spiral motion on the fall. But the Hover Rig allows you to use any plastic- not just a tube- and has the weight distributed along the shank in a more balanced fashion- which imo refines the rig tremendously. It presents more horizontally- doesn't nosedive like a tube can sometimes. And I really like the action on bottom- the way it comes toward you and off to one side- I can see why that would trigger reaction strikes more than a vertical presentation. It's more realistic and forces them to make a decision. Well done man- for what it's worth- I'm impressed.
Great video, I saw on ominia baits, they advertised the non weedless hover rigs in stock, I dont use the weed gaurd, but I will wait till I need more to get those, you're so lucky to get to fish for mainly small mouth, that's my favorite then spots then large mouth, i just got done watching the live recording of Todd & Andrew & you, some great stories & veiw points & about build your brand, this hover rig is one them & like I said when you reach 100k subscribers UA-cam will be paying you big $, I watch another channel he has over 100k & he was able to quit his day job & do UA-cam full time, & you maybe making good $ now, I don't know, but I'm not going to waste my name of my channel, its to good, got to decide what to do! 🎣👍
That location looks familiar. Is that the same lake you were previewing the new TUSH rigs a week or so ago? What was your line setup for the spinning rig? Keep up the great work!
I don't know much about ice fishin', and I really don't care to go freeze like that. But it seems like your Hover Rigs would be really good for it because of the horizontal presentation. I put one in a Z Man jerk shad but I put it farther back than usual, thinking it would be good under a popping cork. Nope. It had a really weird action when I popped the cork. So they shouldn't be rigged with the eye so far back. I do like the way it fattens up the bait and gives it a nice belly shape. When I can I'll order some of the other versions. It's getting to be a better time to use them because there's not a ton of dead grass drifting around. What do you think about using a Hover Rig and a regular jig head on a double jig rig? I wonder if the 2 actions would interfere with each other or if the 2 presentations together would be good? It's something you can try for bass, and I'll see how it goes in the saltwater and I'll definitely let you know.
ill get me some without the weed guards. ive had problems with the weed guards bending after catching fish. it maybe because there dinks but ive just been cutting off the weed guards.
I'm a bank guy. I fish the zoom fluke a lot in the CA delta. Which means tides - current flow - heavy grass. I see some possibilities presenting a different action using this method. I have questions myself, which I will post. I liked your ? as I'm headed out after striper in the aquaduct when the front moves in this weekend tight lines brother
I use it from the bank all the time- it's really not a lot different from a tube if you think about it- very similar really. They both have the weight just inside the head, they both can be setup to have that death spiral on the fall, but the Hover rig allows you a much wider array of plastics to choose from and has the weight more evenly distributed along the shank of the hook- so it presents more horizontally. Even when on bottom- if you give it a pop- it doesn't come up as much as it comes toward you and off to one side or the other. Which like he pointed out in the video- is much more realistic relative to how a baitfish or craw would really move on bottom. Think of it like an extremely versatile- really well-balanced tube rig that you can fish any small plastic on.
I have a couple of ?'s about the method. Im hoping you could point me in the right direcrion. Line twist - my concern is how current will affect the falling spiral motion. I use a fluke a lot here in the Ca delta. I use it instead of a wacky rig. I go floro-braid /swivel, maybe add a half a nail. Will there be a light weight 5/0 ? Thinking hollowbody swimbaits. More striper fishing thought than bass. Although Lastly deals with tthe bank. I know this method really came on with FFS. Im thinking as a bank guy i might be able to use this as a count down jerkbait. But being able to suspend it in current ? Can i pitch this thing in the holes I find in the grass ? Again, something they arent use to. Will it work ? A coiuple of bucks - mad scientist moments - who knows?
Hey Matt, last video you mentioned the lifetime AOY would be an average for 2025 qualification. Is it a points average or actual place average for AOY?
@@MattStefanFishing well at least that is a bit better. Points didn’t make sense bc it was all skewed year to year. Either way, who knows what changes by then
Matt , you say you have too finish top ten to stay in the PBT . If 35 spots out of the eighty are locked in for 2025 then you have to be in the top ten of the remaining 45 anglers ???
I'll check them out . Watched Castledine's video with you and Upshaw once Todd gets started y'all couldn't get a word in.😀😀Funny y'all mentioned spinnerbait sales were slow due to FFS that's what I've been catching them on using FFS fishing brush piles.👍👍👍👍🤏

thanks for the support!
Caught my PB using this hook with a worm 3.9 pounds love it man
Awesome!
Nice day on the water 👍
Yes it was!
Great video. Looking forward to trying this rig and the tush next time I’m able to place an order. Hopefully be the first in my area to try it.
Good luck!

Yep i flip with them and took top 20 doing it at lake Eufaula this year. Plus there is a heavier 3/16 s tough tee hook weedguard size now
Matt what rod and reel set up were you using in your video.
It’s a MHX NSJ-871 with a abu Garcia zenon x
Gotta say this is my new confidence rig! It catches their attention and keeps the skunk out of the boat! 🦨
Agreed!

You bet!
Love how successful you are getting. What are your go-to hover rig weight sizes? River vs lake? (What about beginners? (What do you give Hank to use?) Thanks as usual!
I use them all but i like the 3/64 the best that’s usually what hank uses, but if Indy we go to 3/32 or 1/8
🍺Thanks Matt.🤠
Thanks for watching
Good video Matt, trying the hover rig 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you. After you cast, you tug the loose line just a bit. Can you share what the purpose of that technique is?
To make sure line is in proper spot in the bail
Thank you very much for your response.
Thanks Matt
you bet!
Right on
thanks!

TUSH & Hover Rig made up & ready for black Friday tournament

What size flat worm?
This was the 4”

Please add rod reel power line baits weights ext for us neewbies in videos
Will do
This rig stymies me. I’m positive it doesn’t run correctly on retrieve. Im using your Core Tackle set up as well.
Try just letting fall on slack line like a wacky rig
@@MattStefanFishing will do. Thanks!
Do you get alot of line twist? would you ever use a swivel above the bait? Great video..
You could use a swivel and you will get some line twist but I’m happy to deal with it with the number of fish i catch
That location looks familiar. Is that the same lake you were previewing the new TUSH rigs a week or so ago? What was your line setup for the spinning rig? Keep up the great work!
10lb braid with 8 lb fluorocarbon leader

It works for ice fishing and i haven’t tried a double rig but i bet it would work!
Where do I have to go to find the hoover rigs, can't find them on here. Tackle warehouse?

ill get me some without the weed guards. ive had problems with the weed guards bending after catching fish. it maybe because there dinks but ive just been cutting off the weed guards.
try these without weedguards
I feel the hover rig setup is best fished best vertically from a boat,so I don’t feel it’s something for bank anglers. What’s your opinion Matt?
I'm a bank guy. I fish the zoom fluke a lot in the CA delta. Which means tides - current flow - heavy grass.

Great stuff, what's the minimum temperature the hover rig technique will work to?
Works year round
Guess im going to buy some of these * Hopefully its not a waste of money! Most of my lakes are shallow and weedy - ?
You’ll love them!
I guess it's fished like a tube or jigs with extra action
it can be for sure!

It should work in all of those situations and there is a heavier 4/0 3/16 oz version available
Had to run the video three times to get it all, the inlaws are here today. That and rain!
nice!
Pls work on making these in tungsten. Yes. Its expensive but its worth it. ❤
It’s not a simple process
Awesome 👏 🐟🐟🎣🎣
Thanks 👍
Did you hear about the new MLF changes ?
yes
Hey Matt, last video you mentioned the lifetime AOY would be an average for 2025 qualification. Is it a points average or actual place average for AOY?

Yes, but it’s not that simple. Only way to guarantee i get in is be in top 10 of points at end of season
1 more for the algorithm. Thanks
You bet
I can hardly find a place to use this rig from the bank. Cant afford a boat in today's jacked up economy. Any advice for shore fishing these?
it works great from shore is you can find travel areas
I didn't see a fish. 😊 You know, for every day you go fishing in a for sale boat you have to discount $100. 😂
hahaha
Try not using live scope.
I have no problem not using Livescope…fine with me if they ban it
