Yeah it's a shame that they are finally discovering Parsec when there's also NoMachine out there :( it offers basically all this, with mulitmonitor 4k for free!, the paid versions of NoMachine allows several connections to the computer and a whole bunch more, but personally Parsec has nothing on NoMachine. I've used NM at over 9000km away from a 2mbps (fiber) connection and god damn it's good, I was even able to get it working over 4G AT OVER 9000KM! The reason I was looking at parsec is for the same issue that the editors are complaining about, sound and image. But as a remote client/server, nothing beats unthethered control, like allowing the end user to set up a regular SSH key for actual authentication, and not needing to create a user for the service. This means it's basically 100% independent, the software company could go out of business and as long as you got the installation file, it's good to go. I do not work for NM, I'm just a happy client that is amazed that this software isn't more widely used, my guess is because they focus a lot on Linux since it allows remote access to computers that do not even have a GPU in them! perfect for managing VM hosting machines with a GUI! (my kind of work)
I work for a national public broadcaster (similar to your CBC) and we use HP's Remote Graphics Software suite for this purpose. We already prepared for this crisis while drawing up a Business Continuity Plan, and foresaw the need that editors would have to work remotely while still able to use the performance from the workstation at work. We are a HP and HPE-heavy house. At the workplace (editing cells) the whole family of HP Z workstations is used: Z230/Z240, Z440, Z840 and since recently also the Z4/Z6 and Z8. The editors at home use their EliteBook 850 G3 and G5's, or if they are lucky and their manager allowed the extra expense, they also could choose a ZBook 15/17 G3/G5 for some local medium-intensive editing. As the company is using an all HP-ecosystem, there is no need for licensing and the software is free. When one uses a non-HP system at the sending end, a paid license per workstation is needed. Depending on how many editors you employ, you could maybe look into it and see if the issues with Maya or other 3D modelling software are less interfering. As for remote accessing the editing workstations: these are located in the production LAN (no DMZ, workstations have no public IP), so access is provided by Pulse Secure's VPN. As Pulse licenses are expensive, we recently started transitioning Windows workstations to Microsoft's own AlwaysOn VPN so they no longer consume a Pulse license (we were limited to 250 concurrent users before the crisis, and had to buy a very expensive 2000 user license for 8 weeks to overcome this problem).

I've used parsec professionally running the client on a mac and the host on my titan gaming pc at home. Non covid reasons, just cause it's better. If you want to write code, compile (maybe render), then push something? Parsec is great. I hope they can remain profitable.
My company is using Citrix for CAD users, like myself. I have more latency issues than you, but our internet in the office is 40 down and 15-20 up with at least 5 people using it at the same time, plus another 10+ users connecting via VPN to access network drives. It has true dual monitor support and works even if the host computer has no displays connected. It uses 2FA through Microsoft. I find it allows me to work almost as efficiently as working in the office. Some users are experiencing frequent disconnects, but I have had absolutely no issues myself. It isn’t perfect, but for CAD, it is great. Also, it runs as a service, so I can log off my machine and restart it and have no issues reconnecting. Since the software does not need displays attached, it turns them off during a remote session and no one can see your screen in the office.
Its a coincidence that just today I was trying to decide whether to use Amd link or Steam link for my inhome streaming setup. Looks like I need to try Parsec as well.

I've been using Parsec a lot to game on my PC when I'm at my dad's place, or when I got a free hour at uni. Immersive mode has never been a problem for me.
ios support is a tough one for streaming services such as this one because Apple does not like the ability for you to play games not on it's store and want's a cut from the companies.
Jumpier Wolf Valve seems to have worked something out with their streaming app on iOS, and even Moonlight, an open-source client for NVIDIA Game Stream, has an iOS version in the App Store.
I've made some good friends through Parsec gaming . I've finished a bunch of co-op games through hosting and allow others to connect. It's been the best new thing that's come out of gaming for me.
I've been playing with Parsec to help me make it through the pandemic too, and I've found much the same: while it is full of compromises (some a lack of development on their part, others deliberately imposed to sell their pro plan), it's one of the only options out there right now even APPROACHING the level of low-latency needed to feel as though you're actually "on" the other computer. Fortunately, there are a lot of new entrants into this space (the open-source Moonlight is an exciting one, and Rainway seems to fill the exact same niche). I certainly hope to see one with Linux host support soon, as this is very painfully missing from almost all of them today.
I've been preaching parsec for a while now and I'm glad it's getting to a bigger audience Couple things to add; parsec used to, and hopefully will again, offer rent-able gaming computers. This would work like geforece now but since there's no shop software, just plain old windows, nothing get's blocked. While they aren't currently offering this it's also possible to rent from somewhere like google cloud computing or aws and install parsec there, don't know about cost for this but it's still basically subscription cloud gaming also for anyone stuck on a frozen screen because of h265(as linus mentioned) connect from the phone app and use it as your monitor while you turn off this setting. addition: mentioned at the end is sending key combinations and restarting. In settings on the client you want to turn on immersive mode for sending all key combo's to the host, in which case remember Ctrl+Alt+` to disconnect. And parsec can be set to run on starrtup and auto login, do this on the host and then a normal start menu > restart will let you connect again when it's back up (this also pairs great with wake on lan, just saying)
the name parsec is already used by another diferent company who does bank server hosting,,and million dollar databases out of a former military base in the midwest!! parsecdata.com/about-us/parsec-team/
@wolfsmaul-GER yeah I get you, but we gotta see it come to fruition to atleast make an informed opinion (not that we should be, but still!) I rarely comment, but this seems too important somehow 😂
I've been using Parsec, and it's incredible. I have a nice Android tablet, and I use it to play FIFA remotely with 2 friends when we got on a trip instead of bringing a chunky laptop. I had to make a few adjustments, like changing the host resolution to match my tablet's and lowering the screen refresh rate of my tablet to 60Hz. After that, I was able to play FIFA at 1080p and 60FPS smoothly, with only the occasional frame drop every 2 or 3 minutes, which didn't impact the gameplay at all. For gaming, a constant 10 Mbps connection is all you need, so it doesn’t use much data either.
Ive been basically living in a hospital for the last year in a half and I use Moonlight for editing and gaming. I have been using it for about 5 years but I again I have been living off of it for the last year in a half and I am very happy with it. There is way less maladministration services, but the latency and I have been happily using it for years.
I've basically been doing this using Steam Link/Remote Play: you can minimize Steam and just straight up use your whole computer like normal. I'd love to see a comparison.
Parsec feels a lot more seamless than Steam Link and has a slightly better image quality with explicit resolution and bitrate settings which I quite liked. What I don't like about Parsec is that they can update it without notice and they often make weird moves removing some useful features like displaying Windows-specific keys at the top of the phone's screen when you tap with three fingers to access your keyboard. I had to install Hacker's keyboard to get access to those keys again.

Linus actually looks good with a beard.
Finally people started discovering Parsec
Yeah it's a shame that they are finally discovering Parsec when there's also NoMachine out there :(
it offers basically all this, with mulitmonitor 4k for free!, the paid versions of NoMachine allows several connections to the computer and a whole bunch more, but personally Parsec has nothing on NoMachine.

Love Parsec. I use it, well did use it, everyday to connect to my PC at home while at work. Plays games near flawlessly.
Considering he runs all custom-built editing rigs for his staff, it might not be worth buying HP's licenses for anywhere from 8 to 15 machines.

I've been telling anyone who'll listen about how amazing Parsec is for over a year now. It's the best kept secret in technology.

Yeah I don't think Linus can really do anything about that, it's a bummer since I'm unable to use it either
To quote their FAQ:
"We are currently available to US citizens or permanent residents who are 18 and older who are the account holders of a US checking account.
We'd love to be able to support everyone, but it may be a little while as it's dependent on parties outside of our control on the banking side and ensuring we have the right partner and processes in place for international users.
We're actively working to expand outside of the US"

As a user of parsec for a long time, THIS IS SOOO GOOD however they should add support for IOS
ios support is a tough one for streaming services such as this one because Apple does not like the ability for you to play games not on it's store and want's a cut from the companies.
Jumpier Wolf Valve seems to have worked something out with their streaming app on iOS, and even Moonlight, an open-source client for NVIDIA Game Stream, has an iOS version in the App Store.

_April Fools' video flashback_
I've been using Parsec on a raspberry pi so I can play games on my desktop in my living room. Super easy to set up and it works incredibly well.
I've been preaching parsec for a while now and I'm glad it's getting to a bigger audience
Couple things to add; parsec used to, and hopefully will again, offer rent-able gaming computers. This would work like geforece now but since there's no shop software, just plain old windows, nothing get's blocked. While they aren't currently offering this it's also possible to rent from somewhere like google cloud computing or aws and install parsec there, don't know about cost for this but it's still basically subscription cloud gaming
also for anyone stuck on a frozen screen because of h265(as linus mentioned) connect from the phone app and use it as your monitor while you turn off this setting.
addition: mentioned at the end is sending key combinations and restarting.

I always thought linus couldnt grow a beard! He needs to grow it out!

There is way less maladministration services, but the latency and I have been happily using it for years.
I've basically been doing this using Steam Link/Remote Play: you can minimize Steam and just straight up use your whole computer like normal. I'd love to see a comparison.
Can you use steam link from another state ?
@@StellarAeon you can stream you game regardless you geographic area.
I was also wondering how they would compare.
