  • Hello Friends!!!! Welcome or welcome back to my channel!!! In this video I'm sharing with you all my favorite plants or planty things for the month of January 2024.
    Every month I choose 5 plants and/or planty things that have stood out the most to me during that month. Typically these are things that brought me the most joy during that time period. It has been a busy last few weeks and I haven't been paying as much attention to the plants as I typically do so I had a little bit of a harder time picking my favorites. Don't worry, no plants have been neglected...it's just that I haven't been looking at them as closely as I usually do.
    In this video we'll look at 4 specific plants and then for the final favorite we are going down to the grow tent for a fun little look at the Hoya grid.
    I really hope you enjoy this video :)
    Thanks for watching!!!!

    Yes, Plant people are nice people. I experience that in my area, New York as well. Take care now. Plant life is not about stress, remember that. Sometimes you just have to let go.

    When removing an African Violet leaf move down the leaf stem to the trunk and push down to get a clean cut. Repotting into smaller pot makes plant flower. Remove an older leaf at regular intervals and rotate pot a quarter turn weekly.

      Hi Paul!!! I don’t snip them that low so I will start doing that!!! And I don’t rotate them so I’ll do that as well. I may have to rethink where I keep them as I don’t have a lot of room in that one shelf. Thanks for the tips!!!

    Your Black Petiole Elliptica is Huge! I can't believe my eyes! Sometimes I think it is the African Violet potting mix that makes the plants decline.....I have never been able to keep one alive with that specialized soil....not sure what it would take to DIY the potting mix.....your Viola leaf is huge! Love your whole hoya wall...I am so happy for you that all is growing great! Fun video and thank you so much! Love tina

      Hi Tina!!! I’ve thought about it possibly being the soil. I’m so used to mixing my own but for the AVs I only use the store bought premixed bags. Maybe I’ll look into a DIY recipe for soil. Your Elliptica is soooo pretty and healthy. Still feel so lucky to have it 💚💚💚. Xxoo 😘

    Oh that VIOLA! so pretty. It's always hard to choose a favorite! I chopped my philo sodiroi to sell a cutting and it put out that tiny new baby leaf but now it's shooting out a huge new leaf so that's exciting. Nothing has died in January that's always a plus!

    Beautiful African Violet, those blooms are so pretty. Hope it stays healthy for you. My favorite right now is my Hoya krimson princess. It has five active peduncles. I think they are all going to open around the same time. Can’t wait, it’s gonna be stunning! 🩷

    Hi Gena! I know what you mean about loosing interest in your plants. I’m in that slump right now too. I have shifted my interest to build terrariums, still plants but a different genre😊 try your African violets in your terrarium, mine are thriving in the terrariums.

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  8 місяців тому

      Hi Laura!!!! I actually haven’t lost interest in them at all. I just don’t have as much time to look at them to be able to pick a favorite easily lol. Maybe that doesn’t make sense. But lack of time has made it so I haven’t really bonded with any particular plants during the month. These have been the most standout though. My attention is just divided now with other things and it’s not just about plants all the time.
      I do have some AVs in my grow tent which is basically a giant terrarium. I haven’t noticed much difference in how they are doing. That’s what makes me think it’s possibly a disease or something. Makes me sad 😢.

    Hi Gena, I keep violets off and on. I have the best luck when I pot them in African violet pots, they are self watering. Someone who could really grow them well once told me they actually like to try out some before watering again, not severely but don’t keep them too moist too long. Idk hope that helps, I do think the brown leaves is a watering issue.

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the tips! I'm pretty sure my issue might be over-fertilizing. I've been really delving into them lately trying to figure out what's going on. I think I've been fertilizing too much. So that's what I'm currently trying...no fertilizer in water for awhile. I've also added a heat mat under them. So we'll see what happens. Thanks again :).

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  8 місяців тому

      I’ve tried that and it was a disaster. But I think it was because the plants came to me as plugs and the plug was too dense and suffocated the roots…it could never dry out. Just a guess. I may try that system again with some propagations. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!

    Wet sticks? I think you can sell your pretty pink princess for higher because not all the ones in the stores look nicely variegated or as well taken care of as yours. I'd ask 25 or 30. Because the stores only have a few at a time as well.

    When I grew so many African Violets in the late 80s and 90s, I kept them on shelves in the north windows of my house in Lakewood. I watered them with regular tap water, never fertilized them, treated occasionally for mealy bug. That's about it! They bloomed almost continuously!! SO WHAT HAPPENED?? I think it must be all of the new hybrids!! they are so finicky!
    Just like roses! In east Texas I could grow all the old Tea Roses and the antique roses, BUT could not keep the new hybrids alive!! Just sayin'!
