I was lucky as a fresh white belt some 9 years ago to have Andre Galvao's brother Gustavo as an instructor for a year or 2. He described this as pé vivo - live or active foot. I would say its hard to underestimate the general positive effect of this tiny detail on your whole game, and I think until this video I've not heard anyone mention it, certainly not in this much detail. thanks for the vid.

6:21 - Yes! Leg Rides! Power Rides by Craig Jones goes deep into the concept of leg rides to control the bottom opponent by taking away their power to move. Your detail of "clicking" the hook and adding tension to the click is brilliant!

So many good principles. It's a great approach to teaching jiu jitsu. Thanks for destroying my paradigms. Great session!

The toes on the mat thing is common knowledge in Brasil ... I don't get why this is so revolutionary... But if these guys didn't knew this... Well congratulations Priit. Also I like concept training more than technique training so good work... Thank you!

Man... I'm definitely not from Brazil, and every few rolls I get people who start on seal feat. And I just give them a push, and they're on the ground.

Active toes makes it impossible to keep your posture in closed guard while doing a seated guard break if you are not strong. Kids, pre-teens, young teens lack the upper body strength to keep posture with active toes because of how it pushes your center of gravity forward when trying to do a seated guard break. Weak people need seal feet and the pelvic tilt for the seated guard breaks that require posture.
*For sure* as soon as you are passing you go to active toes, but everyone who follows this video's advice about active toes in closed guard *thinks* the seated closed guard break with posture doesn't work, and they find another break, usually hands in biceps, stand up, put the knee in, sit back down.
The problem with that one is that if the closed guard player knows to chase your hips with his hips AND your torso + arm length is insufficient, you can't get your knee in. Keenan even said on a video that "the old school seated closed guard break doesn't work" and his technique for it was totally wrong, starting with active toes. Do it wrong, it doesn't work.
Seal feet in seated guard breaks with posture and in mount, active toes everywhere else.

Ok, this guy says active toes in turtle too, which goes against the highest level turtle guard in history by far, Eduardo Telles, who used it for everything and won major tournaments. Also against Xande Ribeiro, 7 time Worlds Champ, 2 time no-gi World Champ, 2 time ADCC champ, etc, arguably best defense ever who used turtle constantly at the highest level to keep from getting his guard passed. But by all means listen to the Estonian who we've never seen beat anyone good.

I think there can be a workout game: one should do 10 burpies every time when Priit says "Toes on the mat" in this video.
