A tsundere in a sense of 16 personality types is almost always an ESTJ and that’s how I make this pretty easy for me when it comes to understanding who’s one or not and Taiga is an ISFP. I can understand where people get tsunderes but I agree with you OP. Not tsundere. 😂
If you ever do a part 2, you should look into the "yangire" archetype. While it doesn't have "dere" in the name, it's still an interesting archetype to explore. The easiest examples I can give you would be Rena Ryuugu from Higurashi and Alois Trancy from Black Butler.
I love how half of them with -dere not only don't delineate character development, but don't even have anything to do with love or romance anymore. Dere, colloquially, just refers to the prefix being a description of a person, not a part of the description itself. It's like a particle now,
Not exactly! Japan is the ultimate breeding ground of strange fetishes. So, all "dere" character types have ultimately been engineered as someone that Japanese fans of that particular type would like to imagine being in a relationship with. For instance. Yes, there's many anime fans who would like to have a girlfriend with cat ears who ends every sentence with "Nyan." There's anime fans who'd like having a girlfriend who's a ghost, or a zombie, or just someone who wants to have naps all the time. And that is the reason Nyanderes, shinderes, zonbideres and nemuideres exist. I'll offer undeniable, rock-solid proof if you don't believe me. Somewhere in Japan (and elsewhere in the world), there's probably a body pillow for at least one character of every single dere type, lol. I'm not commenting on the moral validity of all these dere types -- I think necrophilia is a major no-no, for example. I'm just saying all dere types actually do exist to fulfill the romantic wish-fulfillment fantasies of some people, lol.
yeah, and lelouch is a literal prince, also gilgamesh is basically a god, ea is an anti-universe noble phantasm, he got all the right to be that arrogent
3:50 I’m Japanese, and I believe the ‘ドロドロ’ portrays the sensual feeling of being in a mud pit or swamp: It connotes the idea that if you encounter or interact with a Dorodere, you’re going to get yourself stuck in a mud pit that you can’t get out of. A clear comparison to this idea is a ‘rabbit hole’ in English.
There’s another Yandere with a completely different meaning. It’s the combination of ヤンキー (yankee, which kind of means delinquent) and デレデレ, and it’s one I find really funny Best example I can think of is the Manga “Yandere Kanoujo” where the girlfriend is the leader of a highschool gang, but basically melts whenever anything even semi-happens with her boyfriend and it’s super funny
9:46 Most of this video I just watched calmly out of interest, but, for some reason, the delivery of that line got me laughing for like a minute straight
Some of these tropes feel like they shouldn't be character architypes. Like Zondere. That's not even a personality trait since there are so many directions you can take with an undead character. You can juxtaposition them as being incredibly lively despite being a walking corpse, make them sluggish and always tired, make them psychopaths literally kept moving by a desire for vengence or a lover, etc. The possible variations are far too widespread to work as an archetype.
they're tropes, aka flavours of characters. patterns of personality traits, dynamics, and characterization mostly. it's used to categorize the "kinds" of characters think mbti. how the author uses them in the story can vary. i always considered it a difference in writing between east & west. the west uses archetypes. it's what the target audience are familiar with in japan so they keep these categ.
for the MEgadere, I feel like it could be the 'glasses' origin, like 'rose tinted glasses'. Feels most fitting, obsessed and in love but unable to see that the one they love may not be the same way or are annoyed by them
@@Master_Yoda1990 you know, to be honest, I haven't seen the video in a hot minute, so I honestly forgot what the origin of the name came from, so that's on me
as someone who has only watched like 3 of these animes, one of em being bsd which i am actively obsessed with, i cannot even begin to describe how hard i laughed at akutagawa png
As you implied with your examples, characters can fit different "dere" types at once, and even change iver the course of the story! For example, Orihime from early bleach is a deredere, but mid to late bleach, she transitions into much more of an utsudere. My only criticism is your explanation of oni. While oni jave devil-like traits, they're often also thought of, translated, and even depicted as ogres. To my limited knowledge, i think a more accurate comparison would be named orcs in lotr, or named monsters in various myths. But that starts to lose out on the meaning.
Onis are creatures from japanese folclore that are uncontrolable and cause chaos and destruction around them, because of such behavior and the monstruous apearencen that they're often depicted with it's commun to compare them to western demons, orcs or ogers, wich may cause many mistranslations.
Yes. Characters can have various degrees of various archetypes and more. Also, oni can refer to someone who is evil, it's not just the japanese folklore monsters.
About what Oni is. Ðey are neiðer devils, demons, ogres, nor orcs. Ðey are exclusive to Japan. Ðey are an in-between of Orcs and Demons, and are a very specific part of Japanese culture. Onideres can straight-up be Onis too, like Rem from Re:Zero. It doesn't always have to be figurative. It can be literal too.
Thank you so much! I looked alot in the internet and i couldn't understand since they all are kind of similar. But you made this so much easier for to understand..i didnt even know there was 44 of them but anyways thanks!❤
I haven't read the entirety of Blend S, but I think it's funny that you showed a picture of Maika in the Sadodere section because (As far as I am aware) all of the sadistic parts of her character are either completely accidental or part of her job.
Maika do fit into sadodere category. Her role for the cafe is to become a sadistic anyway. The eyes she has actually what makes her get the job easily, because that means all she has to do is act as a sadistic person instead of just trying to avoid it. The last time I watched the whole season was like 2 years ago, I might get some parts wrong because of my memory with the anime.
@@Kripahhhhh1402 The sadodere architype as presented in the video is someone who IS sadistic, not just someone who looks/acts sadistic. I believe a better way of describing Maika is Pseudo-Sadodere, as they only look sadistic and only acts sadistic for their job.
Well, it's just a general look. It's not comprehensive, as ðere are also sub-categories. What he called Himedere/姫デレ, for example, are actually Ojoudere/お嬢デレ, which aren't actually princesses, ðey're just Ladyderes, and have ðe female equivalent of ðe stereotypical funny posh Englishman speech. Himedere is likely for actual Princess-like characters. And Oujodere/王女デレ are for literal princesses of a royal family. He also didn't understand Dorodere/泥デレ, who are Dirtdere. As in, ðey will put dirt on people's names, which sometimes includes ðeir object of affection. Ðere's a lot going on.
Thank you so much for finally confirming that Kurumi Tokisaki is a Sadodere. So many times I’ve seen debates that she’s a Yangire, so thx SO much for finally setting that in stone for me
Kuudere doesn't have any sense of superiority or anything from what I know. They simply tend to be emotionless, quiet and stoic. They either don't get emotional easily or they have trouble expressing their emotions. Some may be arrogant about it, but honestly I haven't seen that many that are. Heck, there's a few that are this solely because they've been made entirely unable to express their feelings (such as the heroine of Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat, who was extremely expressive until a magic wish stole all capacity to display any emotion from her). Also, I'm pretty sure the "Doro" in "Dorodere" is just "Doro", which is Japanese for "mud". Implication isn't that they're confused beneath the Dere, but that under that sweet veneer is a mass of mud and filth.
Also, the key to the Hajidere is that they're a polar opposite of Dandere, similar to how the Kichidere is opposite of the Yandere. A Dandere is defined by how she tends to be shy and standoffish until she gets to know a person, but becomes much more open and expressive when you get close. Inversely, a Hajidere is open and friendly by default and has little difficulty making friends, but the more close you become the more easily flustered she gets. A Dandere will panic and clam up when she first meets you but will happily tell you all about her day once you've developed a relationship, while a Hajidere will act like you've been friends for years when she meets you but will blush, stammer and go quiet every five seconds on your first date.
@@danielantony1882The inverse of Yandere. A Yandere becomes crazy because of love, a Kichidere becomes sane because of it. Yanderes can be rather normal until they fall in love and/or their love is threatened, at which point they go nuts. A Kichidere is seriously messed up in the head but being with that special someone can return her to normal, either permanently or while they're there.
I watched this because I wanted to know if there was a character type similar to tsunderes that weren’t rude or mean and I know wholeheartedly agree that Kuudere”s are awesome and I Stan them
As someone who is very normal about Doroderes, I want to tell you about them The character that got me into Doroderes is Lila Rossi from Miraculous Ladybug so yeah Basically this dere type is based off a character named Luca Trulyworth from Artenolic 2 So depending on people's interpretations of the character, there are 2 types of Doroderes - One who acts sweet towards the love interest but is actually using them for some reason. They don't feel much towards the love interest. An example I can give is Kaspar Blankenheim from the Evillious Chronicles. Although Kaspar is actually a very light version of this dere type, and someone who fits more would be his wife Margarita The other feels a mixture of hatred and love towards their love interest. They are sorta controlling and have an obsessive grudge against them, but also a need to control. Hence they use the dere persona as a part of their plan. Their hatred can get confused to a yandere's obsessive love, but they are more dangerous towards the love interest than the yandere who usually targets rivals. Another example I could give is Rentaro Tsurumigawa from Talentless Nana (who shares the same dere with our own protagonist, Nana Hiiragi, although she gets redeemed in the end.) Unlike the Mayadere, this dere type does not get redeemed after falling in love. When they are exposed, they try to convince the love interest to join their side. If the love interest refuses, they'd rage and try to force them, or just give up altogether on their feelings. Then they get rid of the love interest The west has developed yet another meaning for Dorodere - A person who has yandere thoughts but does not act on them. An example could be Marinette in season 2-3 of Miraculous Ladybug (although she did act on some of those impulses) The Doroderes I mentioned before so act on their yandere-ish impulses though, more towards the love interest than the rivals Also fun thought - Queen Chrysalis from My Little Pony is listed as a Dorodere in the wiki's page, and I think Lila's personality is kinda similar to hers, hence naming herself such
Thank you for sharing this information. So far, Doroderes are my favorite conflict characters. The male variants of doroderes are more scarier than female doroderes IMO
Very informative, but besides all the research, the best selling point is the flat dry delivery of the jokes, i.e. your personality, well done, enjoyed it:)
thank you for explaining 41 new dere types that i literally have never heard of well more like ive never heard of the dere type but i do understand why the specific characters you have chosen are put in that dere class
All the types, but none of the sub-types. There are at least 4 subtypes of Yandere that aren't as dangerous to either yourself or others. Also, I'm incredibly disappointed that you didn't mention Hinata Hyuuga as an example of Hajidere.
Imagine if these anime personalities were real. Yandere would be the most stable in relationships because they are the most loyal, only negative thing is that they might murder your friends out of jealousy.
Ummmmm no no no.. they will isolate you from the world and threaten them, be very toxic and controlling… although it can exist irl people with borderline personality disorder tend to be a much safer version of yandere… as a person with Borderline personality disorder I often get “Yandere” on more serious Dere type quizzes
I love that Komi san got mentioned (i would basically be that dandere too if i was an anime character and im basically like that irl), but another character from that anime i think is a great example of yandere has to be Yamai Ren ^^
@IvAnimatesDaH3talian I still haven't watched it, and I'm not actually sure what it's about, haha. I've just had a few friends get super into it. It's gained a sort of fond infamy in my mind because of the character names. I still haven't recovered from that time I asked my friend who her current fictional crush was and got "Russia" as an answer (with no prior context)
Yo! I am fully familiar with some of these “Dere” characters but some of them blew my mind, since I don’t hear or see them very often in anime & manga so thank you for explaining all 44 of these different characters👍 I would also like to point out that most of these “Dere” characters can also be male characters though some of them are rare or find in anime & manga, but either way, I’m still fascinated by this video my friend. Good work!
I believe Asa Shigure from the anime Shuffle! would fit in the Byoukidere category. She's not always bedridden but every now and then she will come down with an illness that will cripple her due to the fact that since she is born half human/demon, her body can't handle the magic buildup.
Spoiler for a ten year old anime of an eroge that I still have gripes with the localization team of the game. (I won't go on my typical rant unless someone wants to know)
Another example of bokodere is Asuka from Urusei Yatsura, where she also suffered from androphobia and was constantly beating all men except her older brother. I still remember her screaming "AAAH, OTOKO!", when she proceeded to punch Ataru or Mendou. :D
Kekkondere= literally the most waifu of all deres, and therefore superior to all other -dere types. But you missed some other important ones: Oneesan-type (Anedere?) Imouto-type Motherly type (mamadere?) Bokukko/Bokudere - Tomboy Osananajimi (usually either a tsundere or deredere on top of being a childhood friend) Otaku Senpai Kohai And the most feared of all... the unspeakable character type that starts with "L" and ends with "oli."
2:29 - You brought up Kotonoha here but she could be brought up again at 3:29 (Early in the Anime before Trio + Makoto just ruins everything and the Trio were some of my least favorite characters in the Anime & VN with only a background character being even more hated being Makoto's Dad) 3:36 - My least favorite Dere Type and it started with the mentioned Trio from School Days 12:56 - Another Kamidere example is Akito Sohma from Fruits Basket who literally declared himself God in the Summer Vacation arc 18:06 - Yet another Fruits Basket Example (Overlapping with Tsundere) is Kyo Sohma and an example that came out a bit after this video is Rana Kaname from Bang Dream It's MyGo due to her very cat like personality (Even earning the nickname RinG's Stray Cat from Taki) 18:15 - Slight fun fact about Nekopara - Cinnamon has the same Seiyuu as Kotonoha Katsura Inuderes + Yanderes = Match made in heaven? 19:17 - Maybe I am a Hajidere
I literately screamed when you introduced the “shundere” and then showed Rei Kiriyama (basically my spirit animal). I was like, “Why must you call me out like this?! 😭”
Gundere is a tsundere subtype. It's the same, but instead of hitting the one they like, they shoot the one they like. Only Misato, of the examples you gave, is a gundere.
07:55 I love how you recommended *Shimoneta* after mentioning Ayame, not after mentioning Anna (02:25). I feel like Ayame doesn't get enough love! She's an incredibly mature character putting up a facade of immaturity and it's hilarious
I would argue that there is another kind of YanDere: Yankee+Dere. As the word goes, it's a yankee archetype of character that is actually very sweet and caring. Admittedly, I don't see this often in Anime or Manga. But in games, there are often side characters with this trait. Like in Ren'ai Revenge ( read: Love Revenge), there's a girl that I only remember as An-chan, so Andou something, I guess.
Ngl when you got to talking about Sadoderes and what they were, my mind immediately went "... this honestly sounds like something Kurumi from DaL would be" And then I see that you actually made her into an example of one and I was like "well shit speak of the devil"
Damn I had no idea so many -deres existed, definitely very informative to watch. Can say that my favorite type is definitely the tsundere, I just find them adorable. With one of my examples being admiral hipper from azur lane. Will say I also love the teasing type of girl. Also I feel so uncultured not knowing like 90% of these character examples, which ig comes from mostly watching smaller niche animes and not really having dwelved into the big ones yet. Watching this tho really makes me want to get into more animes tho.
Same, same, who are these characters... I'm more into tsundere males because females are usually too exaggerated on these trope features. I'd like to see a tsundere girl done the cool way. I'd say my favorite is Bright Noa from UC Gundam, but he falls somewhere in between the tsundere and kuudere.
I feel like for vegeta he's a mix of a oujidere and a tsundere in my opinion. Cause we do get to see him always talking about him being the prince of saiyans and his pride as one however he's also been the type to call goku an idiot and a clown and always trying to surpass him. But eventually during near the final battle of kid buu vegeta started to give his respect to him eventually even though it isnt the type of tsundere where it can be all sweet and lovey dubby. And yes i have also watch some of dragon ball super and he still calls goku an idiot whenever goku does something crazy
Utsudere might also deviate from the word Utsuru which means “Reflecting” Since they’re reflecting on their traumatic experiences, and that’s why they act sad
I don’t agree with the first two example of dandere because Rika showed was delusional, but also didn’t care about her making a fool of herself and would be extroverted with how she act(even if it kinda outcasted her) while nezeko was mute because she was a demon with a bamboo gag in her mouth to stop her from eating people. Komi is the only actual example of a dandere.
Byoukidere: without spoilers is everyone in katawa shoujo. A visual novel takes place in a special school for kid who had disability, illnesses or other problems. Such as being blind.
6:41 It's Goku! 6:56 And Shadow! 13:01 AND KAMI! 13:11 AND FRIEZA! 20:23 And Amy! I mean like two of those are hardly anime but it's cool to see characters I know
Same for Misty, and all the other pokegirls... basically is a harem without becoming one. Every girl fall in love with him but he's so dumb he doesn't even think of their feelings... OK, Pokemon is not a series where romance is the center of all but come on! All this development for nothing? What a waste!
Wow didn’t know the majority of these. What about robot dere or character that act robotic even if they are not actually robots or what about the split personality/gender characters. These two have become more popular recently. I am thinking robodere and Duodere as names, thoughts?
Well, robot characters are ðe most formal. Ðey speak almost entirely in Sino-Japanese, which would be ðe equivalent if someone from ðe Anglo-sphere spoke entirely in Latino-English/English consisting of only Latin-origin English words. Ðe Robodere are Kuudere a lot of ðe times. 2B from Nier Automata being ðe biggest example. Ðem being robotic usually implies some enforced, instilled, or even imprinted emotionlessness.
Love that I got to learn that Vegeta is a Oujidere and the typical Shonen lead characters like Goku are an Ahodere. It cracked me up when I saw Vegeta's dere 😂, great informative video.
great video but i can't get over the fact you pronounced osamu dazai's name as oh-suh-muu duh-zai lmaoo also i wouldn't count dazai as a dorodere. he might be a little manipulative at times but he's genuinely trying to be a good person, not filled with malice

It’s the combination of ヤンキー (yankee, which kind of means delinquent) and デレデレ, and it’s one I find really funny
Best example I can think of is the Manga “Yandere Kanoujo” where the girlfriend is the leader of a highschool gang, but basically melts whenever anything even semi-happens with her boyfriend and it’s super funny
Seems like yankiidere would work better. Or kinda kitikudere + deredere.
Would Arisa from Fruits Basket be that kind of Yandere
@@sfisher923 yeah definitely
iirc they actually call her a yankee in japanese once or twice, but translate it as gangster
Magna from black clover fits in here
Kuzuhana from Yankee Jk Kuzuhana Chan, fits also i think
OH MY GOD I GET IT! Take a cute character design, add a gimmick, repeat every time the story needs a boost: I CAN WRITE!!!
for the MEgadere, I feel like it could be the 'glasses' origin, like 'rose tinted glasses'. Feels most fitting, obsessed and in love but unable to see that the one they love may not be the same way or are annoyed by them

They are a certain type/class of demon.
Speaking of Bleach, essentially 95% of the characters are shindere there.

Finally; A comprehensive up-to-date look at the Dere-type cast list...

@@broEye1What's Kichidere again? I forgot what he said about it since his "Kiti" confused me.
Makes sense.@@broEye1
I watched this because I wanted to know if there was a character type similar to tsunderes that weren’t rude or mean and I know wholeheartedly agree that Kuudere”s are awesome and I Stan them
As someone who is very normal about Doroderes, I want to tell you about them
The character that got me into Doroderes is Lila Rossi from Miraculous Ladybug so yeah
Basically this dere type is based off a character named Luca Trulyworth from Artenolic 2
So depending on people's interpretations of the character, there are 2 types of Doroderes -
One who acts sweet towards the love interest but is actually using them for some reason. They don't feel much towards the love interest. An example I can give is Kaspar Blankenheim from the Evillious Chronicles. Although Kaspar is actually a very light version of this dere type, and someone who fits more would be his wife Margarita
The other feels a mixture of hatred and love towards their love interest. They are sorta controlling and have an obsessive grudge against them, but also a need to control. Hence they use the dere persona as a part of their plan. Their hatred can get confused to a yandere's obsessive love, but they are more dangerous towards the love interest than the yandere who usually targets rivals. Another example I could give is Rentaro Tsurumigawa from Talentless Nana (who shares the same dere with our own protagonist, Nana Hiiragi, although she gets redeemed in the end.)
Unlike the Mayadere, this dere type does not get redeemed after falling in love. When they are exposed, they try to convince the love interest to join their side. If the love interest refuses, they'd rage and try to force them, or just give up altogether on their feelings. Then they get rid of the love interest
The west has developed yet another meaning for Dorodere - A person who has yandere thoughts but does not act on them. An example could be Marinette in season 2-3 of Miraculous Ladybug (although she did act on some of those impulses)
The Doroderes I mentioned before so act on their yandere-ish impulses though, more towards the love interest than the rivals
Also fun thought - Queen Chrysalis from My Little Pony is listed as a Dorodere in the wiki's page, and I think Lila's personality is kinda similar to hers, hence naming herself such
Thank you for sharing this information. So far, Doroderes are my favorite conflict characters. The male variants of doroderes are more scarier than female doroderes IMO
Very informative, but besides all the research, the best selling point is the flat dry delivery of the jokes, i.e. your personality, well done, enjoyed it:)
35 genders? Too hard to remember
44 -deres? Too easy
thank you for explaining 41 new dere types that i literally have never heard of well more like ive never heard of the dere type but i do understand why the specific characters you have chosen are put in that dere class
All the types, but none of the sub-types. There are at least 4 subtypes of Yandere that aren't as dangerous to either yourself or others. Also, I'm incredibly disappointed that you didn't mention Hinata Hyuuga as an example of Hajidere.
What are the yandere subtypes?

Imagine if these anime personalities were real. Yandere would be the most stable in relationships because they are the most loyal, only negative thing is that they might murder your friends out of jealousy.
I mean, a lot of people in real life do fit some characteristics "dere's" have. So yea, these anime personalities can be seen irl too.

I would also like to point out that most of these “Dere” characters can also be male characters though some of them are rare or find in anime & manga, but either way, I’m still fascinated by this video my friend.

But eventually during near the final battle of kid buu vegeta started to give his respect to him eventually even though it isnt the type of tsundere where it can be all sweet and lovey dubby. And yes i have also watch some of dragon ball super and he still calls goku an idiot whenever goku does something crazy

for byoukidere, saki tenma from project sekai : colorful stage! is a great example. she acts normal, but she has an illness and misses school.. a lot.
I’m literally writing this all down because I wanna see what character traits my character have.
