    This is the first luxury diver I have ever actually taken diving. I’ve been rocking a scurfa diver one for years and before that I just wore a computer. Something absolutely beautiful about seeing this doing what it is capable of accomplishing even if just at 30 meters

    When Tudor created this watch they created a lot of "firsts" in the Tudor line-up. I may be wrong but first ceramic bezel, first lumed bezel, first 500 meter diver, first helium escape valve, first titanium case and bracelet, first micro-adjust clasp, and very close to the first in-house movement. That's a lot of firsts and many of these firsts were the first in the Rolex brand as well. I guess I'm saying that a lot of creativity went into the Pelagos which is unusual for the Rolex/Tudor brand. Most times they work on small evolutionary steps to get to a final Wow! With this watch they just jumped out of their corner swinging precise power punches left and right. Wish it would happen more often......

    • @6stringocd424
      @6stringocd424 4 роки тому +9

      These “firsts” did not require any creativity, as this stuff has existed for some time outside Rolex/Tudor.

    • @el_migu_el

      @@6stringocd424 not true, the pelagos was the first watch with a titanium case and bracelet from the rolex family, and the moving springs on the clasp were a first for both tudor and rolex as well. Also, the lumed bezel is a first if I'm not mistaken.

      ivan kerr ...the Rolex Sea Dweller was first released in 1967 with a a rating of 610m , currently 1,220m, while the Deepsea has a rating of 3900m. So unless we focus on the technicality that 500 does not equal 3900, then this is nothing new for the Rolex family by any stretch. I’ll give it that it’s a first for Tudor but that’s one of those distinctions like: third man to set foot on the moon, on a Tuesday in August, on a leap year, while chewing gum...

    I have the Pelagos ETA last gen model. I can assure you that there is nothing like it in the Tudor line. The micro adjustment bracelet. Titanium case. Ultra light feel. Premium finishing. Gun metal look. I was initially aiming to buy the BB diver range but after trying this on there was turning back afterwards. It is very under the radar and criminally underrated by those who want a watch that is loud, flashy and screams “Tudor”. You will also notice that the older ETA Pelagos models do not even have the word “Pelagos” on the dial! Almost as if it wasn’t needed :)

  • @PeteMcConvill
    @PeteMcConvill 4 роки тому +19

    I'd love to see Tudor really back the Pelagos as a full range. My number one criticism of the Blackbay is that is a watch constantly looking backwards, always looking to what was. The Pelagos feels like its looking forward, looking to what could be. I think a Tudor with full, vibrant lines in the Blackbay and Pelagos, balancing each other, would actually be kind of exciting.

    Something the no one talks about is that the bracelet has more articulation than other oyster style bracelets. The 3 link brackets on Rolex, GS, Omega etc only pivot between the bottom of the middle link and the top of the outer links. The Pelagos pivots between all the links. Fits more like a jubilee than an oyster.

    I have the LHD and simply love it. I have a few watched (love them all), but he Pelagos is special, because is a non compromises watch: it seems that was made for what it is supposed to do, not pretending to be any other thing (versatile). Very high quality and understated (which is something essential for me).

    Finally a true dive watch. It's NOT a sports watch! If any reviewer or watch designer actually tried a so called dive watch as intended by diving with it they quickly spot the problems with them.
    This watch is Incredibly easy to read underwater especially at depth with low light or poor visibility. The snowflake hands makes it simple to see which hand is which. A spring loaded bracelet that adjusts as your wetsuit or drysuit compresses or expands depending upon your depth during your dive. So it never becomes loose and slips down over your gloves.
    Titanium case so it doesn't corrode in saltwater. The bezel is larger thsn the case so its easier to grip and turn with wet hands or gloves on. Remember that this process is done at the water surface right before you descend. It doesn't need a helium escarpment. It's there just to shout DIVE WATCH in case anyone was still confused

  • @markwheeler4417

    Loved the "new style" video. I don't know how many times a year you'll be able to do this given the midges and the length of the Scottish summer. I'm not sure I agree about there being few straps which are 22mm wide though. I've never found a problem sourcing straps for my watches which have a 22mm between lug dimension. Perhaps the Bark&Jack shop has, subconsciosly, specialised in straps for "petite" watches. Now if this watch had a 21mm between lug dimension you would have been absolutely correct.
    I'm not sure about the Pelagos. I am not a fan of the snowflake handset. I do agree that it is imperative to try a watch on, especially an expensive one I have found that the real life impression of a watch is much better than any online one and trying watches on has saved me from some expensive mistakes.
    Love the content and keep up the great work.

    Had the two-liner for a year. In my honest opinion, this is the best mechanical diver's watch ever made. How much you want to pay for a watch used in wet environment? Not 8-10k euros like Sub or SD, but enough for having and feeling a luxury item and it's reputation on your wrist. Technically the most advanced materials and techniques to date used in it. Very substantial, very Rolex like. Accurate as f... This thing is more sea-dwelling, than a Sea Dweller, feels more valid on a submarine, than a Submariner. Pelagos is all what Rolex knows about making a modern dive watch. From performance point of view this is the best thing Rolex manufactures right know. Sailing, surfing, swimming, padding, wedding, you name it. This thing will perform. Second favorite Rolex product ever, after the discontinued 40 mm SD4K. Nice review, nice watch, nice pictures! Thanks Adrian! Maybe some Breitling diver in the future? ;)

    Long story long re the blue Pelagos: I fell in love with the ETA Pelagos, but by the time I got around buying one, I ended up with the LHD because I got a good deal on it. Wore it on a trip with my gf to Japan (remember when we used to be able to travel?) and tried lifting a “Chikara Ishi” (Google it) and messed up the bracelet. I didn’t really like the fauxtina so I trade it in. Several watches later, an ETA Pelagos came up and I bought it. I love the clean 2-liner dial but it does feel a bit sterile and the less than 2 days power reserve never really sat well with me (I rotate through a 5 watch collection and don’t believe in a watch winder), so I sold it. Then, two weeks ago, my regular watch dealer has a blue Pelagos and I sprung for it. He gave it to me for really really cheap because he told me the lume came off on some of the markings (known issue on this watch), I did some research and found out that if you go to the RSC with a Pelagos with papers and in otherwise good condition, BUT the lume is falling out, 7-8 times out of ten, they will replace the faulty bezel. That’s what I did and now I am the proud owner of a blue Pelagos that has a brand new bezel and serviced free of charge. I think the blue version of the Pelagos is finally a keeper. Blue on a Tudor + snow flake hands and indices give this watch just the right mix of heritage and modernity :)

    The pelagos is at its best in the LHD form, IMO. The red Pelagos on the dial draws attention away from the paragraph at 6 o clock, and pays homage to the sub. The roulette date wheel is a nice feature as well. Lume also has a tasteful tint to it.
    If you read the article on the LHD written by Wei Koh, I think most people would agree that it really is an amazing piece with technology that puts it well above its competitors.

    I really like the look of this one and the 42mm is right up my alley. The 14+mm thickness is a big no from me, though. Not really sure why the BB line and the Pelagos line have to be so thick for minimal complications. That type of thickness is typically associated with a chronograph but this doesn't have anything more than time/date.

    I recently purchased this watch in large part because of this review. I've tried it on several times at AD's but you can't tell that much in just a few minutes. It is a great watch and I am very pleased with it. Fits my lifestyle much better than a SMP or PO. However, the spring loaded clasp does not work for daily wear or non diving applications. You can read about this in other watch forums but I'd much rather see a larger range of fixed point micro adjustments. There are enough fixed points for me to accommodate fluctuations between hot and cold but the tension of the spring load is too tight for it to be used on a regular basis. I believe there is no half link option for this bracelet. Fortunately for me by adding an additional link I can stay out of the spring loaded section of the clasp. I have an 8.5" wrist so the case size and thickness for me are just fine. Great Review

I just love it and the Titanium is just so warm and interesting and a great change from Steel. As to the Lume all I can say is beware of wearing it to bed. properly charged and you are wearing a night light to bed. Finally mine is running +2.5 seconds a day and thats real world on the wrist and night stand. At $4,500 USD it kicks the Blueberry's butt value wise and every other way. Wear this and no one will ever mistake you for a BB sheepel.

      @@rymcn5220 After much deliberating I bought a BB GMT. I travel a lot (every week), and the second time function highly appealed. I haven’t regretted my decision for a second, the GMT has been stunning in every respect including ridiculous accuracy (about a second a month).
      It is currently the most favourite thing I own. It exudes quality and is utterly solid and well engineered. I love all the details, snowflake hands, ceramic bearings for the clasp, precision of the bezel and sharpness of the hands and indexes.
      I expected the aluminium bezel to mark (a reason for preferring ceramic) but even though I’m so hard on the watch (it is a daily beater absolutely) it has shrugged off all scratches and marks. It still looks phenomenal, yet understated. I don’t feel self conscious wearing it, or at risk of mugging in some of the less salubrious places I go to. It has been worth every penny.
      Having said that I am also equally confident there is no bad decision: they are both awesome.

      @@grahamsalmons2027 Great choice and you've certainly sold it to me. My grail watch is the Rolex Batgirl but until then, my plan is to buy a Tudor for my 30th birthday. I've done so much research and have gone done multiple rabbit holes. I've changed my mind countless times, but at the moment, my plan is to go with the 42mm Pelagos in black. I absolutely adore the tool nature of it... the matte finish, the clasp, the darker metal without being 'too' lightweight. I've also tried on the 39mm version which was stunning but I felt as though Tudor slightly bottled it by pulling back on the characteristics which originally made the Pelagos so good. On top of that, at around 110 grams in weight, it's lightness actually made it feel less expensive compared to stainless steel. No doubt I'll change my mind again once updated 41mm heritage Black Bays are released soon in all colourways.

      @@rymcn5220 Completely agree with you in all aspects. Just an awesome watch. As much as I’m looking at the BB41 for something dressier there is every chance if I go to buy something the lure of the Pelagos will get me. I wish you much happy time with your watch.
      I’ll say one other thing: I travel all over the world. On several occasions in different places people have randomly said to me “class” and pointed at the watch. I’ve never had that reaction to a watch, and I love that the nature of the brand means that those in the know, know, and that it speaks something about ME. There’s no doubt it will do the same for you too.

    This video is what pushed me over the edge in terms of buying a Pelagos. And I couldn't be happier. Thank you for making this video! Your observations are spot on: it IS chunky...but, on this watch, especially because it's titanium, it doesn't FEEL that chunky. And it does wear smaller than the 42 mm size on paper suggests. Finally, the ACCURACY is incredible. After 11 days of wear, and 20 measurements, the watch is losing 1.2 seconds per day, and it is amazingly consistent. My prior watches (much older Seamasters) were not COSC certified, so to have this level of accuracy feels like magic. And that also means that - at least so far - the movement is actually more than TWICE as accurate as the COSC standard. Keep doing what you do, Adrian. Your reviews are outstanding...
