- The Supreme Court ruled that race can’t be a factor in higher education admissions, ending affirmative action. The court ruled 6-3 along ideological lines in the University of North Carolina case, and 6-2 in the Harvard dispute, as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused.

College applicants now must rely on content of character and good grades to get in.
I predict the only race this will help is White Americans . Asian Americans u can fool yourself that now more of u will get into IVY league college and I will bet that u are wrong.
Sounds like exactly what a college should do
And whether or not the republicans have already taken public school funding or not in an area. The republicans purposefully are making it easy for their people to get in private schools which has been effectively killing public school funding over the span of a decade or so. Abolish Legacy Admissions NOW!
Education is important and People of Color must continue to learn one way or another. This just shows you how threatened these Caucasian men feel.
@@saigejones3363isten to Thomas Sowell on youtube, a black man, he talks about how, as a professor at college, he noticed his black students in general couldnt keep up because they were admitted due to the color of their skin and not their grades. They therefore would drop out. He argues that this disadvantages black people because they would of been able to keep up if they went to another college that dodnt go at such a fast pace. It isnt as simple as plonk people into colleges and thats best for them. Admitting based on merit not color of skin actually prevents discrimination and disadvantaging black people or any other person who simply is placed into courses even if their marks arent at the same level as the rest of the class is his argument.

This form of affirmative action simply made it easier for racial minorities who came from advantaged backgrounds to get in while still leaving behind those individuals who are facing the largest brunt of socioeconomic discrimination.

The fact that the reporter actually says that this ruling will affect the number of black and brown students attending a specific college is proof of why the court's ruling was a good one. If the sole reason that a student got accepted, and thus another did not, was because of their skin color, then that rule is at its heart racist. Students should be judged on their ability, not their ethnicity.
Good Decision. Justice Served.
It is nor should it ever be ok or acceptable to give anyone preferential treatment based upon race or religion. Affirmative action is nothing but pure reverse discrimination. No one is deserving of affirmative action. Schooling, jobs, loans, whatever should be awarded solely based upon qualifications and experience. The number of whites, blacks, asians, men or women simply should never matter. Never. If you do not earn it you simply do not deserve it. I was the victim of reverse discrimination back in the early 1990’s. I applied to take the civil service test for the city I was born and raised in. I turned in my application and the lady told me that I would need to go to the study classes for help in studying for the test. As I turned around she said “ Oh, wait honey those classes aren’t for you” and she gave me a study guide and I left. I happen to know the captain that was over the training division. So I called her and told her what happened and asked what was this training class that I was no longer invited to and she said well it’s for the blacks I said too late for minorities like women black and Asian she goes no it’s just for the blacks she said but actually they can’t do that and I would encourage you to show up and she told me when and where to go to show up for the class. When I showed up the black lady was like can I help you and I told her what I was there for and she said oh well you these really aren’t for you, but I guess you can go and that’s what I was told that I couldn’t be denied entry to the class. So I went in there was like maybe 16 in there and they said next week we’ll go over some more so the next week I went back and it was like five there in a few weeks later I went to the last one and I was the only one that showed up. But I studied and memorize that study guide and our test had 140 questions and I got 138 right and was the top score. Well, soon after the scores were posted, the city determined that they were going to split the list they were going to have a white male list and a “minority list but only blacks would be on the minority list. They put white women in Asians on the primary list, so we immediately were contacted by the local FOP and we filed suit the case was hemmed up in the courts for several months and the city when I hit him again hiring so they hired me who scored 138 out of 140 then they hired the top black who had a score of 101 then they hired the next of the primary list with the score of 134 and the next black at 97 and just to be clear I still have the scores so I know they’re accurate I memorized it and then they hired a 133 off the primary list and then a 94 off of the blacklist so then more people file jumped on the lawsuit and make a long story short after about a year and a half the city lost the court case, and the two list were combined, and the applicants fell into the rightful place based upon their test scores, which were the primary means of creating the initial hiring list. They tried it with our promotional exams as well, and we again filed lawsuits and we won and it was stopped. If you don’t earn if you don’t earn something, you don’t deserve it plain and simple just because you’re black doesn’t mean you deserve preferential treatment that’s no different than giving somebody that’s white preferential treatment just because they’re white both are completely wrong. I never cared who worked beside of me; man or female, white black, pink purple as long as I could do the job I had no use for somebody that got something because of who they were not because of what they did. It’s just like the vice president see right now you have a woman in there that’s black and the only reason she was picked is because she was a black woman. She should be embarrassed to have got that position with no qualifications or experience as she was ONLY chosen due to being a black female. But some have no shame I guess.

Lol! Because that really erases the centuries that preceded 'Affirmative Action' for minorities when white people KEPT everyone else completely locked out. THAT is the ULTIMATE form of affirmative action and was allowed to go on for centuries in the UNITED STATES. We will certainly now return to the days where white males kept everyone else locked out with the hope that everyone would actually believe that they are 'supreme' in every way. All this decision does is allow for the return of the days when mediocre white males can be free to affirmatively act on getting their own into universities based on nepotism and NOT qualifications/credentials. We already KNOW that if left to their own devices, they will lock everyone else out-- regardless of how qualified they are. No one need be under any illusions.
I hope the country is prepared to deal with what this decision will certainly and ultimately cause. What we will see is a massive influx of people like Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, Kevin McCarthy ( lowIQ and mediocre folks) holding positions of power and authority, LOL! America is going to be just BEAUTIFUL in a few decades. I guess after this, we will eventually get to the point where we have been decades ago-- open and blatant discrimination, killing of minorities( even to a more extreme degree than what has already clearly been acceptable thus far), etc. That must really make a big segment of America feel REALLY good about themselves! Lots to celebrate today, uh? LOL

Rich parents can enroll their kids in SAT prep courses and hire expensive tutors to make sure they ace their entrance exams. A kid from a working-class family can't possibly afford that. All things being equal, wealth is a determining factor in who gets admitted. Then there's the legacy admissions which most anti- affirmative action people seem to have no problem with. And why should a mediocre high school grad be allowed into Harvard just because he's a great football player? Ending affirmative action hardly establishes a level playing field.
It's interesting how quickly John Roberts could come up with a "solution" for this but not for unethical conduct concerning Supreme Court justices to include himself.

@Chulitatr So should Zoom calls for job interviews and for some college admissions.
Clarence Thomas grew up in negative and dysfunctional homes. As a result, he had low-esteem and a severely profound lack self-confidence. His view that Affirmative Action undermined his academic credibility at Yale Law, and necessarily and similarly undermines all other non-whites, was him projecting. The recent Frontline documentary about him and his wife is all you ever need to see to understand how Clarence's jacked-up childhood is at the root of his problems (e.g., self-loathing, victimizing women etc).
Classic liberal accusing any black conservatives of being self-loathing, nothing new under the sun. He’s been accused of being an Uncle Tom for decades. Instead of putting it down to trauma, maybe he’s an individual with his own thoughts and opinions? Maybe people don’t need trauma to be conservative? Also the allegations w women were never proven and only brought up in the mud flinging when they tried to make him a Supreme Court justice.
Also, Thomas Sowell explains well why affirmative action undermines blacks at Ivy League colleges. It’s bc on average many of them were qualified to go to college, but not an Ivy League. They were placed in circumstances they weren’t prepared for and as a result, most of them were on academic probation. They simply weren’t prepared for the level and quality of work at an Ivy. On top of that, their sat scores were several hundred points lower than the white and Asian students. Their gpa’s were lower too, so many people thought didn’t earn it. I went to school with students that didn’t belong and it’s obvious when you’re in the classroom with them. Their contributions to class discussion were often horrible. When I’d peer review their essays, I thought I was reading a fifth graders work. I was surprised some of them graduated high school. The truth is, many black kids are viewed as not belonging, not because the color of their skin, but because they lack the academic background to be there. The many that don’t belong and got in bc of affirmative action spoil it for those that do. By all means, let in any black kid that’s qualified to be there, but don’t let them in solely bc they’re black.
Thomas benefitted from Affirmative Action REMEMBER!
Don't try to explain away this clown! He shouldn't care about his personal crap - but about doing positive things for young people of his own race - that still needs it. Just the worst most disgusting black man in US history!
@@Chulitatr where has it been stated that he was admitted because of affirmative action? Not every black person that goes to a prestigious university got there bc the color of their skin. Sure, plenty have gotten into universities they weren’t prepared for bc of affirmative action, but to say all got to where they are bc of it is a gross generalization and imo kind of racist. Thomas had a problem with it bc he saw all the people who got in bc of the color of their skin that didn’t belong there and thought they lessened his achievements and the achievements of many other hard workers.
I am so glad that the Supreme Court spoke up for reason instead of the idiotic virtue signalling that is corrupting society. A student should never be judged based on their skin color, they should earn their place based on their capabilities. If you believe Affirmative Action is a good thing, then you are the one who is racist. You are the one that is saying that a specific race should be treated differently than all of the others. Thankfully the court has said clearly that this country is about equality for everyone, not privilege based on ethnicity.
I'm glad it's gone as well because it was just something for conservatives to whine about but you've got it's purpose wrong it's never to give one group preference. @@annzeeg4217 no one is barred from admission in the present day because of their race. And, as someone who worked at the university level for ten years, I can tell you I don't have it wrong. I watched as minority students who were not as qualified or as capable were enrolled instead of more capable students based on their skin color. This led them to being in positions they could not handle, and often dropping out, while at the same time meaning a student who could have been successful lost out on that opportunity. As for why Affirmative Action was first introduced into universities, it was to increase diversity. Now however, as was speculated by the court years before when it first ruled on the topic, it is not needed in admissions and is a racist tool.
As for the "miss me with the unqualified minority tale" I am not sure what you mean. The reality is a student should be evaluated on merit, not skin color. Thus, regardless of their ethnicity, if they are the best qualified applicant, they should be selected. It is pretty straight forward.
@@raysgames9778 Affirmative Action wasn't to increase diversity. It was a part of the Civil Rights Act. When it comes to academic admissions, while diversity is important, prioritizing it above all else raises valid concerns. For instance, if diversity becomes the primary focus in college admissions, what about the lack of diversity in fields like the NBA or track and field?
There needs to be an immediate counter law suit for the descrimination posed by wealthy and other wised priveledged students who ate allowed acceptance due to "legacy", wealthy donors getting their kids admitted, alumni kids getting in etc etc etc. So how can you say its decrimination for a low in come smart kid getting accepted who has so so mideocre grades simply because they know someone who knows someone. That is descrimination. Also, what about the Native American admissions through affirmative action? Will that be stopped also? If so thats crazy. Twenty years is enough. It is time to be equal again. If for 20 years giving preference and still cannot catch up, we have to acknowledge that we were born with different skills.....(some are good in playing basketball, run, boxing. People never ask for affirmative action to be accepted to, for example, NBA). Not everybody needs to go to Harvard, only the best of the best... The NAACP president is about as articulate as a sea sponge. Diversity is not a strength--that's horseshit propaganda. Four years of undergrad and two years of grad school proved to me--via my lived experience--that black kids elevated to positions where they did not qualify intellectually were anchors, were hindrances, held the class back. And they knew it, too. No one complains that the NBA isn't diverse enough--we all understand it's a meritocracy. And the uncomfortable fact is that the dearth of qualified black kids at higher ed reveals another truth: they're not capable of competing on the merits. Thus suddenly merit becomes racist. This was a long overdue ruling...

start somewhere to make it more meritocratic, and discontinuing a practice that's clearly unconstitutional is a good place to start. I just don't want it to stop there
I can tell you why lower admissions happens in California Major...
Have you seen.the insanity in todays colleges. Less diversity is better. The best qualified gets the spot. They need to do that to hiring practices as well
But you also have overqualified diverse students out there as well? Plus most grad students are majority white especially in the med field where I am with 9 out of 63 students so why do they blame it on black and brown students?
How come more Asians aren't in high positions of power in the US if that first speaker says there's a correlation between education and success in this country?
Because America is still being run the same way of the Rich Elite British. Old habits die hard!
What about Asians?
Your supposed to test into college.
TV correspondents shouldn't be working from home. It just looks stupid. It was one thing during the pandemic but that's over now. If you want to work from home then get a job that doesn't have you standing in front of a camera.
It's easy...you work hard get the grades, earn a scholarship academically. Now we just need our own Administration to stop choosing the political correctness over professional necessity we'd start getting back into shape as a country
They want to ensure a diverse student body. It's seems to be (at its heart) racist to assume there won't be adequate diversity if admissions are based on a student's academic ability and achievements alone.
Race should not be a factor in our society. However, would you feel more comfortable in the middle of the night in Black or Hispanic low income neighborhood or in Asian or White low income neighborhood? Not all cultures are equal.
Black history is American history. “That Part”
Yay!!!! Finally!!!
This result could lead to some undesirable consequences. If this law is followed to the letter, our elite institutions could easily become majority Chinese and Indian. We are so busy battling this race issue here at home, that we are neglecting the importance of of American global competitiveness. Just think, have we really solved the problems that made affirmative action necessary. I doubt it. We have made great strides in the number of Women going to college, but we are lacking in other areas. Ultimately, affirmative action helped all Americans, even White men. Today’s ruling is a loss for Americans, a a win for International students.
There are smart non Chinese and Indian. You are so damn racist thinking that only Chinese and Indian.
So what! Does it really make a difference the race of the people admitted to top universities? During WW2 some of our top engineers were German, and we were better off for that even though many people had issues with that fact…
They should limit int’l student admissions.
President Trump's legacy continues to make positive change in our country !
Since SCOTUS JUSTICES have eliminated Affirmative Action, then the question about a person's race on college and employment applications should be eliminated too!.
WTF does trump have to do with this ruling? HE'S NOT IN OFFICE & HE'S NOT THE PRESIDENT! AMERICA FIRED TRUMP IN 2020!

True Equality finally
NAACP dude said a whole lot of nothing.
How many generations have had to suffer for this in America. Finally...facts. Thank you!
A lot of better qualified Asian students were passed up in favor of less qualified blacks.

@@Chulitatr Along with gender, height, whatever...let's go with merit and get the best people and the best out of them, regardless of the unrelated attributes.
Everyone should be happy about this ruling. Students should be accepted on merit. Race shouldn't matter. Affirmative action is racist on it's face. This ruling is the most inclusive thing that could happen. Great ruling!
I think maybe the stigma is from racist ideas of who Clarence Thomas was. I don't think that goes away after AA ends. That's the problem
Finally. Merit based. Everyone wins…if someone got in…they earned it…period. F pigment of my skin…how dare you belittle my accomplishments by reducing my hard work to this inconsequential characteristic.
I am disappointed in Jackson. She should not have recused.
Her vote does not matter anyway.... 6 -3 vs 6 - 2.
Racism lost today.
I remember this in HS '98... White AP students with good GPA/SAT scores were turned down from harvard/stanford while Hispanic/Native students with lower GPA/SAT got accepted. Don't worry the colleges will still find a way to discriminate based on race. Just start your essay with "I was born a poor black trans-lesbian...." and you're in.
