Quick correction: Essences do NOT refresh at the beginning of rounds, they're discarded once spent. This doesn't change the overall score at all, but might actually raise my personal score to a 6/10 given another play. Cheers guy, and thanks to the comments for spurring me to read the rulebook again -Ashton
I think you should edit your video a bit and correct this best possible as it gives a very negative impression of the game (and mentioned a few times), when it was actually a rules mistake you weren't aware of at the time. Without checking the comment section many would watch the video and walk away with that negative impression of the rules (I nearly did!)
Man, lol. That's such a big rule to get wrong. It completely, COMPLETELY breaks the game. Being able to use that every single round without having to farm more is absolutely crazy.
I feel like there's more and more board games trying to give that video game experience, which /can/ be nice, but there's an invisible line where the amount of overhead or focus or component bloat would've just worked better as a video game.
Yeah. I once tried making a board game inspired by Crusader Kings II (years before the official one got announced), but the amount of stuff we had to keep track of (armies in regions, tradeable resources, technologies researched, miracles performed, and so on) got so much. We had a bunch of spreadsheets just to keep track of everything. I think it can be done well in board games, but it should focus on the medium's strengths. Board games are tactile, but don't automate maths like a video game's programming does. Board games should *feel* good if you want to adapt the video game experience to the tabletop medium properly.
Agreed. Watching the KS for Darkest Dungeon, I constantly asked myself why not just play the video game. The boardgame didn't even seem to try to play like a boardgame. It just copied the video game, including all the overhead stats and modifiers
Something positive that playing this kind of video games converted to boardgames would be you do need to use a computer. If you have been working 8 hours in front an screen + checking your mobile on comuting......., playing a "video game" boardgame could be a solution.
there are a lot of similarities with MK (both games are from Chech authors), but flow of game diferent. euthia is open space and u can do anything. in MK u are pushed to move in specific direction...
I think it's obvious that Euthia got huge influence from Heroes of Might & Magic (HoMM), just like Mage Knight. Do you know that the name of the kingdom in HoMM is Erathia? LOL. Even though this game looks impressive, I'm going to stick with my Mage Knight Ultimate Edition (my #1 game of all time), and wait for the HoMM III: The Board Game to be released in 2022. Funny thing is, at first glance HoMM III: The Board Game components look very similar to Mage Knight, each map tile are 7 hexagons, etc.
oh wow, well would you look at that, even more inspiration besides the world of warcraft :) Mage Knight is a plenty good option to stick with, and I keep hearing more and more on HoMM! Need to investigate further -Ashton

Thank you for an amazing review. You've saved me a ton of time and money. The game intrigues me, but the set up and cost confirms this game is not for me. Great video!!
regarding the semi-cooperative aspects: I think that the game Legends of Void handles this better. If the players fail to beat the bosses, they "lose" the game, but one of them still wins. It's possible to torpedo the efforts to kill the last boss late in the game in order to salvage a losing win. in Euthia, it sounds like there is no "win" if the boss is not defeated, but a houserule could handle that.
That sounds like a great idea! Perhaps have some sort of 'side' victory condition if some player wants to sabotage the group, or sandbag attacking. Or it could be that the last hit gets a whole bunch of reputation. Reminds me a bit of cutthroat caverns! -Ashton
