    I just recently saw a tip from someone else that showed that if your template is longer than your work piece its easier to start on the router because the bearing is fully engaged with the template before you start flush trimming.

    Great design and love the simple build. I just made some long skinny legs using templates, and yeah, the end grain tear out problem is real. I ended up leaving them long and cutting them to their proper length on the table saw.

    Hey brother, just wanted to say thanks for putting this all together having done construction and Auto body work most of my life I felt I would try to make some kitchen utensils and other things. Gotta say there is something to be said for a cutting board or a wooden spoon that was made by yourself. Anyway, thanks again.

    I made one of these back in August based off a design on rejuvenation.com. The only thing I did differently was use a router to make 3/4” dados for the hooks to sit in and instead of just glue I put two screws in through the back to make sure the hooks could handle a lot of weight.

    I would have made a curved upward lip on the bottom part of the vertical pieces to give you double the amount of hooks. Great job overall. Also funny how cobalt was the sponsor but you had the much better dewalt tools in the background.

    Nice project! I've been thinking our entryway needs something similar. I'm finding myself searching for a use for the bottom end of the 'legs'. I really like the 'rib cage' look to the design but seems there should be some use for the bottom end of each rib in order to get the most out of the installation. Thoughts?

    You got Red Oak at Lowes? My Lowes doesn't carry that kind of thing but it is in small town USA. The only oak they carry is for stair treads. Might have to rip one of those down to get the pieces for this build.

      @@craftedworkshop Yep, only Oak they have is precut stair treads. They do have poplar though. Maybe someday I'll drive up to the big city an hour away. They don't have that nice birch plywood either in my store. Oh well, make due with what is available.

  • @TheSteveAS
    @TheSteveAS 5 років тому +2

    Very nice design and execution Johnny. But I am curious - what's the deal with all ya'll UA-cam Woodworkers using red oak all of a sudden? It's so 1986! I struggle with the look of oak altogether, but red oak in particular takes me back to paneled walls, Atari, bean bags and basement rumpus rooms.

    I'm a little new so help me understand... Why put nails in the spacers that aren't load bearing but not on the hooks that are?

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  5 років тому

      The nails in the spacers were really just to keep them from sliding around. The glue has all the holding power in both of these applications, brad nails don't add much there.
