  • In this video, I show how to build a coat rack. This Modern Coat Rack was super fun to build! It features retracting hanger and an excellent flush wall mounting system. I have seen a lot of coat rack and hat rack videos out there but nothing quite like this. I designed this piece to look like a piece of art rather than just a board on the wall with homemade dowels supporting the hidden hangers.
    I used black walnut for this piece, and it really looks like one solid piece when hung on the wall. The walnut also has a great warmth to it that fits, being that it is a coat rack. And the angles are subtle but purposeful. The hangers work great too, and the flip-down motion makes them hideaway well when not in use.
    As I said, I have seen other coat racks that give the impression of being one piece, but none really took it to this level where it really is just one piece. This one is much more monolithic in its style. I had a really great time with this whole process. If you have any questions about the build, please leave them in the comments below, and I will happily answer them. Enjoy the build video!

    - Very stylish, classy, unique "Masterpiece" that feels 'do-able' to a novice woodworker like myself.
    Thanx 4 sharing.

    Randomly, I was searching UA-cam for another woodworker and I accidentally clicked your video thinking it was theirs... glad I did. What an enjoyable video. The editing was spot on, the narration was well presented - and clear - and the overall result of the project is super slick. I really like the details you added to the project... and of course, the walnut! 😁
    With currently a little over 650 subs, if you keep on doing this sort of quality, I can see that changing quite quickly. You certainly have gained me as a sub. Chris, UK.

    Very handsome design. I wonder... had you considered using a contrasting wood such as maple for either/or the dowels or hangers? Just wonder how that would look too. But truly this one is great looking. I also grabbed the link to your marking pencil and purchased one for myself. Thanks.

      Thanks George! I thought about it for the dowels but hadn’t considered it for the hangers, but decided to go with walnut for a monolithic look. I think that the contrasting hangers would be a pretty cool look too! You’re going to love the pencils, they work awesome for dark stock and they have some other colors too that I just grabbed to help with marking up pieces for assembly.

    What brand brand do you use when you brand your brand?

      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  2 роки тому

      Hi Ben! I found a guy on Etsy to make my brand for my brand. ;) I’m sorry I don’t recall who it was, but there are a lot of options over there. Hope that helps!

    I don’t own a band saw yet, not sure if I can pull off the resaw hanger taper on my table saw safely.

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  2 роки тому +1

      Your best bet would be to raise the blade to cut halfway through. Then flip the piece over and finish the cut. It’s not as simple as using the bandsaw method but it should work fine. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Awesome. How much do you think this cost in materials?

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  3 роки тому

      Thanks! Maybe $30-35 it really depends on what the cost is for walnut in your area. Here in Virginia Beach is it kind of high.
