Steve Lawrence Winwood is one of the Classic Rock Dinosaurs. He has been making great Rock music since the early 60's. He is an English musician and songwriter whose genres include blue-eyed soul, rhythm and blues, blues rock, and pop rock. Winwood achieved fame during the 1960s and 1970s as an integral member of three major bands: the Spencer Davis Group - "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man", (1964-1967), Traffic - "Dear Mr. Fantasy" (1967-1969 and 1970-1974) and Blind Faith with Eric Clapton - "Can't Find My Way Home"(1969)
Steve Winwood began his professional music career at age 14 with the Spencer Davis Group. Someone mentioned a couple of the hits they had, but people forget their first one and it was #1: Keep On Running. Steve on vocals (and keyboards I believe). There is a video on YT of him singing it. He was 16 or 17 years old, and sounds as if he's 45 and been singing for decades. You should definitely react to that one. It's fantastic! He's a musical genius. After his career with SDG he was with two other major bands and then finally went solo in the 80s I believe it was. He had one album called Arc of A Diver that he did everything on. He wrote all the songs, sang them, played all instruments, and produced it in his own home studio. So glad you've heard something by him! Steve was one of the first considered 'blue-eyed soul' singers, along with the Righteous Brothers. :)
Another gem from this musical legend. Took my three daughters to see Mr. Winwood and Carlos Santana, another legend. Seems like on every song my daughters would be moving, smiling and saying "I didn't know this was him"!
When I worked in North Philly, they had corner row houses with the basement broken thru to the house nex' door. These were the all-nite clubs in the seventies. Good music, Mom would cook in the kitchen, dance 'till the sun comes up. Illegal as hell then but they flourished. Steve Winwood would have fit right in. This video has that vibe for me. by th' way... that thing at 3:30 was a 'Flashcube'.
Steve Winwood is a British artist that started out with The Spencer Davis Group in 1965 at only 17 years old. when Spencer Davis heard this High school kid sing and play the piano, he went right to his folks, and begged them to let Stevie go on tour with the Band. They said "No, he's too young, and you guys are in your 20s or older." He persuaded the parents, that he would personally watch over, and protect the young and naive youngster from all bad influences. It also didn't hurt, that he would be making the kind of money, that would make him and his folks very wealthy. That sealed the deal. His soulful vocals and keyboards made Stevie Winwood one of the all-time iconic artists. He plays about 20 different instruments besides piano. So much soul in this man. He has to be in his mid to late 70s these days. Please react to "Can't Find My Way Back Home."
My dad and I saw him live soooo many years ago at Summerfest. One of my best concert memories. When he got me this cassette, we’d drive with the top down and just jam to this song.
Thank You JM for all the effort you put into providing the Best Classic Rock Reaction Content on YT. Your channel makes it very entertaining with the best music many of us grew up with. Finish the year with some ZZ TOP videos.... "Sharp Dressed Man".... "Legs"... 'Gimme All Your Lovin"
Sorry, you said it must have been written back in the SDG days. It wasn't. I don't know how you were saying one thing and implying another, but okay. You mean Gimme Some Lovin', I presume. :)@@Klaatu_22
@@lauraallen55 actually Motown’s Holland-Dozier-Holland were added to the publishing rights because the song sounded like an old Junior Walker song. So there’s your connection to the 60s.
As many have noted, when Steve was young (in the late 60s) he was strongly influenced by Ray Charles, and his vocal stylings here show that. And Steve on that organ, yeah.
Steve just flat out can sing. The man has a heart full of soul andd talent
Couldn't help but notice your countenance change when Steve's vocals started. He has a voice that just fills your whole ear.
Wasnt he 17 yrs old singing good lovin and I'm a man with spencer Davis group?
The video is gorgeous too. ❤
Saw him do this live in 1991 when he was touring the US.
I could listen to Steve Winwood sing the morning news.
I was fortunate enough to see him with Blind Faith in '69...he was easily the most outstanding player on stage that night...
Steve is a genius and a treasure! This song is 🔥🔥

It sounds like something Sam and Dave would sing
