But when someone honest like Bernie does something like this, then all of a sudden the media wants to make it into a gigantic story. Huh. If it was cleared with Obama (And really any ad like that should be cleared beforehand regardless) then the context of the quotes before does not matter. It gain a new context simply by being approved by Obama. (Now there might be other reason why not to make clips of such a nature. It can give a incenses impression even if it is approved by the person being quoted. Simply because how quotes are often used out of context in a underhanded way.)

ronan pellen he’s airing that ad specifically in Florida for that older white voters that really really like Obama. Obama has a mixed record but he has a high favorability in the Democratic Party. So having an ad with Obama is meant to reach those Old School Dems.
He's the last one to fall in line to do it--the first one and the last one get the most mockery. And he's made fun of them--especially Biden--for using them before. If Bernie hadn't taken the quotations meant _to endorse Hillary_ and repurposed them to help himself (or more accurately, an aide probably did it... I doubt Bernie himself knew where each clip came from, that's why candidates approve messages instead of making them themselves), it wouldn't be as much of an issue. It's also disappointing because Bernie's always been the more principled choice--seeing this sort of trickery from him is frankly a let-down. I'm still voting for him, but his status as a good person has meant that he's held to a higher standard than others.

Change my mind: None of these quotes are deceptive or out of context, these are relevant clips of Obama giving his actual views. If anything is misleading it's the brevity of the ad, which makes it seem like some clips are related to each other, but air time isn't cheap, ads are always short. Obama has expressed respect for Bernie repeatedly, and has commended him for energizing voters, and starting discussions on important issues, among other things. It's entirely fair for his campaign to push back against attacks that accuse him of being anti-Obama just because he doesn't agree with every single thing he did.
The discerning of the viewers can tell the anti-Sanders bias of this show. I really don't get why. For a good comparison check out Seth Meyers clips and the way they portray Sanders: it's like night and day.

Because context matters. Politicians say nice, supportive things about each other all the time. Presidents turn out to support candidates for Congress. It's a duty, an obligation; but the statements are not supposed to be repurposed later. Obama could have endorsed Sanders (or, for that matter, Biden). He hasn't. So using these old quotes endorsing Sanders as a Senator to make it seem like an endorsement of Sanders as Dem leader is indeed deceptive. Sure, Biden's been doing the same from day 1 - and he's been getting mocked for it from Day 1, too.
It's just like him deceptively trying to implement a wealth tax which is engineered to not affect since he would be right below the threshold. However it would be affecting 15 million other individuals directly and if you're counting their family it would be 30 million+ individual. Now I'm a billionaire and I can affirmatively say that the wealth tax would systematically wipe me out even though my wealth was generated by inventing technology that is helping and changing humanity as we know it. I'm all for paying taxes, but being penalized for having wealth and then jeopardizing the ability for me to help community charity and foundation work is another thing completely.

@Tessa Rossa I know I just wanted to make the point that, even though progressives, prefer Bernie to Biden if it comes down to a choice between Biden, Trump, and just not voting, they will choose Biden because they can't stand the idea of Trump winning. On the other hand, if it was Bernie instead of Biden, many moderate Democrats would just not vote, because they don't like Bernie. And that is where Biden has the advantage, he can bring in the moderates Bernie can't and still get the Progressive vote because they just really want someone to beat Trump.

ronan pellen he’s airing that ad specifically in Florida for that older white voters that really really like Obama. Obama has a mixed record but he has a high favorability in the Democratic Party. So having an ad with Obama is meant to reach those Old School Dems.
He's the last one to fall in line to do it--the first one and the last one get the most mockery. And he's made fun of them--especially Biden--for using them before.
If Bernie hadn't taken the quotations meant _to endorse Hillary_ and repurposed them to help himself (or more accurately, an aide probably did it... I doubt Bernie himself knew where each clip came from, that's why candidates approve messages instead of making them themselves), it wouldn't be as much of an issue.
It's also disappointing because Bernie's always been the more principled choice--seeing this sort of trickery from him is frankly a let-down. I'm still voting for him, but his status as a good person has meant that he's held to a higher standard than others.

None of these quotes are deceptive or out of context, these are relevant clips of Obama giving his actual views. If anything is misleading it's the brevity of the ad, which makes it seem like some clips are related to each other, but air time isn't cheap, ads are always short. Obama has expressed respect for Bernie repeatedly, and has commended him for energizing voters, and starting discussions on important issues, among other things. It's entirely fair for his campaign to push back against attacks that accuse him of being anti-Obama just because he doesn't agree with every single thing he did.

The "criticisms" of Bernie's recent Obama ad are the last thing. This isn't about Bernie or other candidates being made fun of. This is about the double standard where more 'moderate' candidates were never asked hardball questions or criticized in regards to ANYTHING they did by mainstream media at all. I never once heard any serious discussions about Biden's policy ideas, or Pete's or Amy's. But they will happily ask for the millionth goddamn time how are we going to pay for Medicare-for-all, or that all of Bernie's policies will cost 60 trillion dollars which is 3 times that of the entire American economy (which is a bad faith argument to imply it will cost that much 'up front', when they know damn well it isn't true), and so on.
THAT is what irritates us so much. There is never an actual fair argument made in favor of his policies, always opposed, and always with industry talking points (there's been ads on every debate by Big Pharma and anti-Medicare-for-all groups). Because context matters. Politicians say nice, supportive things about each other all the time. Presidents turn out to support candidates for Congress. It's a duty, an obligation; but the statements are not supposed to be repurposed later. Obama could have endorsed Sanders (or, for that matter, Biden). He hasn't. So using these old quotes endorsing Sanders as a Senator to make it seem like an endorsement of Sanders as Dem leader is indeed deceptive. Sure, Biden's been doing the same from day 1 - and he's been getting mocked for it from Day 1, too.
It's just like him deceptively trying to implement a wealth tax which is engineered to not affect since he would be right below the threshold. However it would be affecting 15 million other individuals directly and if you're counting their family it would be 30 million+ individual. Now I'm a billionaire and I can affirmatively say that the wealth tax would systematically wipe me out even though my wealth was generated by inventing technology that is helping and changing humanity as we know it. I'm all for paying taxes, but being penalized for having wealth and then jeopardizing the ability for me to help community charity and foundation work is another thing completely.
