    I’ll never understand the premise of not learning the English language. There’s a reason to do it. It’s not about giving up ones culture, it’s a practical matter of communication.

      bjetpilot Yep! English in this country is the language of commerce, discourse and business. It only makes total sense if anyone wants upward mobility they’d learn it! However--enter Democrats who keep exploiting Hispanics by keeping them sated via handouts in a life where they’ll never advance. Cruel really.

      Leftists seem to think that having a national language means you're not allowed to speak any other, which is absurd. We just want government to be more efficient (and stop killing so many trees) by not being forced to print every document in every language known to man just so some snowflake doesn't get offended.
      It doesn't have to be English, but having a common ground is even more important in this country precisely because we have such an open society where a great many languages are spoken. The melting pot isn't really a good analogy because the "ingredients" are NOT blended into one homogenous mess in a way that destroys their individual characters.
      American culture isn't a potluck stew that we all have to devour whether we like it or not, it's an all-you-can-eat buffet. It's people from all over the world coming together to share their unique contributions, which everyone is free to indulge in or pass over according to their own tastes. It's socialism that wants to destroy cultural diversity and have us all subsisting on gruel so bland that it won't irritate the most delicate of constitutions.

      How is it possible to teach & know so little?
      The first one called Columbus a genocidal racist.
      This is not only factually wrong but also wrong in so many other ways.
      It creates hate.
      This makes young people throw down statues & freak out because of Columbus day.

      He does quite well, but, ignores most of the challenging part of the story - Part of the culture - the traditions and customs as Knowles would say - till 1965, was being White. Knowles says there has never been an American ethnicity. He is technically correct, however, there has always been an "American race" - and that is the admixture of European ethnicities that seamlessly assimilated (within 2 generations) for obvious reasons. It is disingenuous to ignore the vital role played by in-group preferences of Europeans in the establishment of American political institutions and civil society. This is all now at risk with the unwise embrace of the multi-cultural ethic. Knowles analysis is quite superficial.

    • @damienroberts934
      @damienroberts934 5 років тому +2

      @Stroll White means European, obviously. A European ethnicity. The US constitution would have been impossible without the obvious in-group feeling of Anglo-Saxons, and then other white Europeans. The United States, in fact, would not exist without that obvious fellow-feeling. If you say that feeling is "racist", then I guess, everyone on earth is "racist". My only point is - there is a huge risk to the whole project if one ignores the obvious positive role played, historically and until very recently, of America as largely a melting pot of European ethnicities. That in itself was challenging.

    • @damienroberts934
      @damienroberts934 5 років тому +3

      @Stroll The Anglo -Saxon British created the ground for all that was to follow. The profound political and philosophical ground essential for any country that is going to endure. Non Anglo-Saxon Europeans who came afterward, in large numbers, assimilated to that system. They had the distinct advantage, which is obvious, of being members of the same race - the extended family of European ethnicities. A large family connected by history, culture and Christianity. Anyone can see why that recipe would have a good chance of working. No-one, at least I can't, can see how today's "recipe" can work in the long term. It is a born to lose idea, and people need to be more humble with their ambitions, particularly regarding human nature, and the inevitable conflicts that arise from the forced co-habitation of difference. I don't think it's going to work. Hope I'm wrong.

      damien roberts What Knowles is saying is that the language that binds a nation together is very important to establish an “American race” as you say..
      The language at which the laws and constitution are embedded throughout our nation. The people have to understand those laws, because within our sovereignty, we the people have to have a balance within our own establishment.
      However, still our language has never been seen before in history. Many people were captivated by the literature and could barely in comprehend its language even then.
      That’s why I suggest education options for biblical scriptures. Reading “Old English” is exactly what derives from our core values.
      Their is nothing wrong with collecting from multiple cultures, because that’s exactly what we did. Individual sovereignty is influenced from European/Judeo-Christian values. That is just one aspect of American culture.. Our American history has been short but massive in the amount of assimilating cultures to make a people and a nation. No one has denied that and Knowles actually expressed that what he loved about America.

      @@dccrazy527 "What Knowles is saying is that the language that binds a nation together is very important to establish an “American race” as you say.."
      I totally agree that language is basic to the integrity of a nation. Language, however, does not create a "race" as you seemed to imply. Race, ie, Anglo-Saxons, determines the language- English.
      "Their is nothing wrong with collecting from multiple cultures, because that’s exactly what we did ........ Our American history has been short but massive in the amount of assimilating cultures to make a people and a nation. "
      In the recent past, ie, till 1965, "cultures", embraced by America, were almost 100% of European ethnicity. That was hard, but, possible.
      How much more difficult to assimilate people with no racial, ethnic, historical, cultural or christian commonalities? And with an enormous chip on their shoulder about the supposed, and delusional, "white subjugation of the entire world".
      I would say impossible.

      damien roberts American is not a race or ethnicity. I only quoted that back to you.
      I implied that we have common value systems, like the language is what binds us together as a people. We are not like other nations, we are a collection of a lot of cultures.
      Is European cultures not considered cultures to you? Italian, Mediterranean, German, English, Spanish, French, etc. We are made up in a collection of those cultures and moreso from around the world.
      Of course America took in other nations that are close to the same value system as us. That is how you make a common people and a common value system. If you were looking for people to assimilate quickly to our way of life. Then you choose cultures and nations that are common within our own.
      It would be hard to assimilate people who barely understand our way of live. We are fast, innovative, literate, competent, competitive, etc. Someone from Saudi Arabia would be harder to assimilate to this way fo life, than lets say Israel. Mainly because of the freedoms and the principles behind the culture.

Do you think we became this country and government because of leftist values? no! That's why we are the exception, exceptional. My great grandparents came here from Hungary at the turn of the 20th century. My grandparents (their kids) spoke Hungarian their whole life - with each other and in church (sometimes), but they only spoke English around us grand kids, because within a generation they had fully assimilated and loved being Americans.
    My great uncle, Sam Korpas, fought in the Great War for the U.S. Army because he felt it was his duty as an American. The great irony being - that the child of a family that left Europe for a chance at the American Dream ... ends up back in Europe, as an American, fighting to liberate the continent they left.

    This might be totally meaningless to many, but today my pharmacy that i have been using for years (that was a private small buisness type pharmacy) just sent me a text about my meds being ready in both English anf Spanish. They never had both languages and didnt have the need to. But they just hired a mexican woman and just a week later started including it. She threw a fit after she first brought it up as a suggestion, but since none of their patients so far needed interpretation, they didnt do it. She complained to some agency. Falsely accused them of stealing meds etc. And now, they caved. And still have to keep her hired there.
