      Is this a trick question? He's about to win his 3rd MVP honor; is the the first to the 50/50 club(maybe only ever) and is the only dual player in the league since Ruth(who only did early in his career) and is top level at both is crazy. So, with out question he's a first ballot HOF. Smh!

      No, since he hasn't played the 10 years required to be eligible yet. They would only wave the eligibility requirement if some tragedy befell Ohtani (career ending injury or worse) - they wouldn't induct him if he just chose to retire. He's a HoF lock in 3 years when he is eligible though (definitely 1st ballot).

      this must be a trick question. If he RETIRED today, he will not be a HOFer. Because you need to play 10 years to earn eligibility. He has only played 7.
      So NO.

    Shohei may be the best player Japan has ever produced. Not only does he have great baseball sense, but he also has a great personality. And above all, there is one thing that is most important...that is, her face is cute.

    • @AnthonyRandi87
      @AnthonyRandi87 2 місяці тому +20

      I think that’s a complete understatement to say he “might be” the best player Japan has ever produced. In my opinion, he is the best player Japan has ever produced by a mile and even though he’s only played in the MLB for three years he very well might be the best player in the history of baseball. He is literally doing everything at such a high rate and it’s nothing the world has ever seen before. His pitching stats in 2022 were outrageous, he pitched to a 2.53 ERA with 219 strikeouts. Then just look at what he did this year with the Dodgers when he became the first player to enter the 50/50 club.
      I really don’t think people are grasping just how amazing that is. Just to put it into perspective; Prior to Ohtani there had only ever been 5 players to ever hit 40 HRs and steal 40 bases in a season and not one of those players did it more than once. Those 5 players were: Canseco, Bonds, A-Rod, Alfonso Soriano and Ronald Acuna. So in over 150 years of records being kept in MLB those are the only 5 players to ever have a 40/40 season. Then Ohtani comes along and in his first year in the National League with the Dodgers he goes for a 50/50 season. To be exact he finishes the year with a staggering 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases in total which is not too far off from a 60/60 season!! I am a Mets fan, the Mets lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS, I was very upset, I hate the Dodger. But still having said that I cannot deny how amazing Shohei Ohtani is at baseball, and I cannot deny that we are witnessing history unfold in front of our eyes. I genuinely believe we are watching the equivalent to fans in the 20s watching Babe Ruth except the player we are watching is a lot better than Babe even was. 🤷🏻‍♂️ #Thank you Japan for producing such an amazing talent that provides entertainment to the world every single time he steps the box or onto the mound. What a player!

  • @MMuraseofSandvich
    @MMuraseofSandvich 2 місяці тому +42

    He pitches, he smashes homers, and if that weren't enough, he steals bases. And because he's a pitcher and a huge scholar of baseball, he is much more effective as a batter and as a base runner.
    This is no ordinary player, this is the game of baseball wrapped up in one man.

    1. After having a career-high 8 rbi against the Royals, he pitched a career-high 13 Ks the next game.
    2. Double header vs the Tigers where he pitched a 1-hit complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts in game 1 and he hit 2 home runs in game 2.

    Perfectly timed swing, steady follow through with an unwavering lower body. What a beautiful swing Shohei has.
    The wonderful sound of the ball is evidence that there is no waste or blurring when hitting the ball, and all the power is mechanically concentrated on a single point.
    That is why the ball flies so far even though it appears to be hit lightly.
    Three characteristics can be seen in Shohei Ohtani's swing.
    (1) Natural dynamic vision to see the movement of the ball,
    (2) A stable and smooth swing trajectory with an unshakeable body axis due to the overwhelming strength of his torso, lower body, legs, and hips, and the ability to repeat the same swing over and over again at any time as if it were programmed.
    (3) The ability to instantly find the best timing to hit the incoming ball, and to capture that timing without fail.
    He has been doing these three things with his big body, which he has trained with diet and training for the past 10 years.
    As a result, he can make a moving ball fly as far with a steady and efficient swing as if it were a driver shot of a stationary golf ball.

    Commentator is clearly an Angels fan! Play No 2 should be when he played for the Dodgers 50-50 game. That ball ended up being the most expensive ball yet, 4.4 million dollars! Play No 3 should be the 40-40 Grand Slam! These two plays indicated he can overcome the tremendous pressure, Clutch Factor is high while chasing records. Judge, e.g. took 10+ games to reach No 63, hence Judge’s choke factor is higher!
    Of course, we all agree Play No 1 would be the iconic Trout strikeout, where generations later, baseball fans will still be talking about it!
    There’s nine more years left in Dodger uniform, so I’m sure there will be more historic and iconic moments or astonishing and incredible feats for Ohtani to accomplish!

    I often wonder what would happen if the great pitchers of old also took time in the off season to take BP and practice with the rest of the hitters - they probably wouldn't hit as well as Ohtani, but we might have had a few more 2 way players over the years. That said, with the universal DH, we might never see another 2 way player again after Ohtani.

    Someone here posted: "He had an ABYSMAL post-season..."
    LOL... subpar for him, but not exactly "ABYSMAL". In the 2024 postseason, without Shohei Ohtani's 3 RBI and 2 Runs in Game #1 of NLDS (won 7-5 against the Padres), the Dodgers probably would have gotten swept in 3 games - since the Padres won games #2 and #3. In fact, the home run portion of it is featured in this video, picked as the Play #4 (at the 11:09 mark).
    Some 2024 postseason players stats (ESPN):
    7th in RBI (10 RBI: 5th among Dodgers' players)
    8th in Home runs (3 Home Runs: 3rd with 3 other players among Dodgers' players)
    9th in Hits (14 Hits: 5th among Dodgers' players)
    14 Runs (Tied for 1st with Mookie Betts among Dodgers' players)
    14 Hits (5th among Dodgers' players)
    13 BB (2nd highest Walks among Dodgers' players)
    .373 On Base Percentage (2nd in OBP among Dodgers' players)
    24 Total Bases (5th in TB among Dodgers' players)
