Given the fact he could fool his closest family and girlfriend that well, I’d find it very unlikely that this was his first victim. He got caught for this one, there’s a lot of cold cases out there.

Yes....this documentary is heavily sensationalistic. "Shock value" 100% I agree.
BTW the US has the highest rate of life sentences W/O the possibility of parole.
That's right. The US leads the world in full life terms.
1 in 2000 people in the US have been given full life with no parole.
I think this is a result of a partial for profit prison privatized system in some states.
Or possibly a pie chart of factors including the political career ambitions on the part of prosecutors.
But I'm not entirely sure why the US leads the world in harsh sentencing.
And I'm certainly not saying some of the full life terms aren't justified.
I don't think sentencing of individuals should be used as a deterrent to others.
Each crime of murder should be tried on the facts of the case.
State governments should NOT use life/no parole sentencing as a deterrent in my opinion.

Tabak actually lived in the same block of flats as me and my family for a few months. I remember when they put the first picture of him on the news us and our downstairs neighbours were having a conversation about how familiar he looked, when the lady who would have lived the floor above him overheard and couldn't believe we couldn't remember him. We never knew there names though. Him and his girlfriend would smile at me as I walked out the main entrance, opposite their drive, to go to school some mornings but that was the extent of our interactions. Honestly gives me nothing but dread now knowing what we know about him. I would have been around 14 at the time, he only lived in our building for a couple of months.

Sadly, most murder trials are settled with lesser charges. I just watched a video where the guy bashed his way into his mother's home (which he had been banished from) and cold-bloodedly shot his ex-girlfriend (and baby-mama) to death....he then tried to shoot his sister (who was running from the house with his 3 week old daughter), but he missed. He was sentenced to 20 years but with parole eligibility in one year (ONE YEAR !!). Upon his release, he attacked a man with a knife, but was let free with a 500$ fine. A few weeks later, he brutally murdered a woman with whom he had previously been living....this after the police had been summoned by the girl because he was trying to break into her home. The police asked him to leave, and drove off. 10 hours later, the cops are back at the scene where the girl has been raped, murdered, and cannibalized.

This case was made into a tv mini series in Britain. I remember watching it on one of the streaming services. It was focusing on Jeffries who was wrongfully accused and the main actor, whose name slips my mind, was excellent in it. Here I see the real person and he seems much more sociable and personable than depicted in that series. Very evil, this Tabak person.

I sometimes watch these films to simply appreciate having my freedom and not have anybody chasing me.
What is often in these films is that you have somebody who has everything; talent, job, career, income, and even a quality girlfriend - and he wants a bit more - and he loses everything - for himself. Of course completely, completely different dimension is to care about another living being.

It seems that all of the killers are the most evil. Seems like a bit of overkill. I'm wondering if there has ever been a gentle, polite murderer. How are loners somewhat weird? Why else would someone shop for something but because they wanted it? How does that make them self-obsessed?
