Yes its all internal. Even while facing very stressful situations when I feel drained, I just close my eyes and visualise light. I feel some energy within me, a powerful one which drives me forward without relying on external pleasures.
The problem is you don’t get to choose the reaction that imbues events with meaning. It’s both biologically and psycho-sociologically instantiated in you. You’re not able to determine individually what is meaningful, otherwise you could sit in the couch all day and tell yourself that’s meaningful and have tons of dopamine poured into your system and that’s just not how it works.

I’m getting on a bit and am not deep into psychology but I think I know a bit about effort and achievement ; I believe we should challenge ourselves daily , not necessarily to win marathons but just to achieve something worthwhile that takes some effort and planning , from this we gain a genuine sense of achievement which helps build our self confidence and character.
Early humans had their anxiety systems solely to survive. Their purpose was to hunt, mate, and survive the day. We still have the same systems, except a larger and more developed prefrontal cortex. We can't just survive another day, we are now confronted with the nature of reality itself. Our minds are seeing and feeling more. There's this burgeoning questions inside all of us, "whats happening here". Different people suppress it to varying levels, but the collective minds has this question regardless. As the mind evolved we started go past merely surviving and in search of meaning. This is solely from the development of the prefrontal cortex. Was it meant to be? As a Muslim, it makes perfect sense. The Islamic lens through which we perceive our reality prevents us from consuming negativity. The internal representation of events either triggers gratitude or patience, both of which are inherently positive. This also aligns with the saying of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): "Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter, and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, which is good for him; and if something bad happens to him, he endures it with patience, which is good for him." (Sahih Muslim 2999).
Nothing is bad or negative until You decide it is. Choose to see it as a positive lesson learned or something you’ve learned you do not prefer, and you will do better overall.
To me that only works temporarily. Say pushing myself to be more social at a party while sober. I can do it and get in a mood were I am in a flow state after conquering my fear a few times. However it wears of in a few days, and if I stick to it I just burn out.
Try just a buzz if you can. Yes socializing can drain you and produce anxiety or stress. Plus overload. Did have a drink at class reunion. Too many people and stayed w/friends at hotel. More gatherings once there. Not me. Stayed in room. Spent.

Exactly. There are situations where your needs are fulfilled and ones where they aren't. You still can master you reaction toward it - and become outcome independent.

Of course but the problem with his is, is the fact you have no control on how much dopaline you generate from an achievement. If your brain had a pre disposition of not generating a "normal" amount dopamine or oxytocin then it does not matter what you do you will never gain the same level of satisfaction.
