I went to New Zealand in the summer of 1974 and snow skied from Queenstown (South Island) to Mt. Tongariro (North Island) and took the Shotover jet boat ride twice. Smaller boats and a more intimate experience, then but what a ride. Bought my 21 foot jet boat trying to recreate the experience.
Had a spectacular jet boat ride in the 80s at Queenstown with guy who was one of the stunt drivers in the film Race to the Yankee Zephyr. He was killed while making the film shortly after.
The film's dedication to those who died during filming was included in the closing credits and reads: ''This film is dedicated to John Rillstone and to Bill Clarke & Colin Robinson who lost their lives on the Kawarau River, Queenstown, whilst operating Jet Boats''.
Now that I think about it I could have been killed by a driver who blacked out in the opposing lane while driving over to the Shotover River venue. I should just stay home.
@@RobertZinn Anything can happen anywhere, life is a risk! But life should still be fun and certain things shouldn't be challenging! In my opinion, the thing with the Shotover Jet boats are unnecessary, especially since it is also stressful and disrespectful to the beautiful nature! Not everything has to be exhausted to the fullest! Where is that little bit of mystery left in the world we live in? But maybe that's just me... Anyway, I'm glad I didn't do that when I was there! And the number of accidents caused by driving on the wrong side of the road has increased drastically in recent years, just by the way!... You can ask yourself why...🤔
Very exciting but can be dangerous Those people are braves Try the Sydney Australia boat ride first to get the feel of it then progress to Queenstown New Zealand jet boat ride That is the ultimate
This boat is designed specifically for the Shotover River. The name?? Shotover River Jet Boat. Built here in Queenstown, the state-of-the-art Jet Boats were designed specifically to handle the Shotover Canyons. Jet boating through the Shotover River in Queenstown is their purpose, that they are built to spec to do so. Made for maximum speed, strength and manoeuvrability, the boats are powered by twin 350 Mercruiser V8 engines, producing a combined 700 horsepower. Propulsion, steering and control are provided through two Hamilton 212 jet units, thrusting 760 litres of water per second. Water is drawn in through two intakes at the bottom of the boat, two jet units containing internal propellers then compress and drive the water out through two jet nozzles at the rear, at nearly 400 litres of water per second per jet unit. It’s the force of this water that propels the jet boat. Steering is achieved by turning the jet nozzles, which changes the direction of the water forced out the back of the jet boat. It can also brake and reverse using deflectors and thrust buckets, similar to a jet aircraft.
I wish they have other option to explore this river with anything that doesn't pump your adrenaline. I wish to be able to explore it in peace without fearing my head will bump into the canyon
Intresting…the passengers and the pilot don’t use helmets for protection (is just one observation, not a critic)…so, don’t have a minimum of risk to chock with the rocks?
When I did this ride back in 2016, I think I remember it costing $45. Maybe that was a group rate. The prices have gone up since that time. In 2024, the prices are $169 per adult, and $95 for a child. I am not sure what the group rate is. www.shotoverjet.com/prices/
You will enjoy it. There are places in the U.S.A. that run similar boats. Myrtle Beach, SC at "Beach Rider Jet Boats" located at "Broadway at the Beach"
The ride seemed very stable and I never had the feeling that it would roll or tip over.
I discovered this video and had to look it up. I lived in New Zealand for over a year. Surprised they actually allow this they are a “progressive” country.
Searching for accidents, there are very few and the only deaths I could find were from jet boat racing (not tourist operators). The most significant injury seems to be a broken leg?
"Objects in the video are closer than they appear"
True 😂.....
My wife and I did the Shotover and loved every minute of it, proper white knuckle thrill ride. Next day we did the Nevis swing, gotta love Queenstown.
Really fun! They have very experienced drivers and it is very safe! Would highly recommend!
Until there's mushed up faces all over the rocks. 😄
“Very safe” is a slight exaggeration I’d say.
You’re putting your life solely on the drivers hand.

You travelled by Ski's from Queenstown to Mt Tongariro in Summer?
Was the 50 miles across Cook Strait frozen over?
Yes. Flew in and had to turn around.@@RobertZinn
Nothings a better feeling than being good at what you do and that captains excellent awesome video!!
The captain was great and precise.
It was amazing when I went! Definitely consider it.

That looks like so much fun. Its like Mother Natures Amusement Park Ride.

Excellent

Excelente 🇩🇴🌎
high levels of jet boating, this is extreme naff respect to the captains.😎😎👌
I obviously trusted them.
14 kamikazes. 15 with the driver.
I went on this when I was 5 I was about to get on when a tractor came up the beach towing one with a massive hole in the side of it that was in 2010
ONLY PRO CAN HANDLE THAT KIND OF MANEUVER.
I have great respect for the driver. Although accidents can happen, I was not fearful.
1:14 only laughing faces ... that´s fun :-)
Nice rider
It goes close to the rocks on either side
Now think about it if the driver suddenly blacks out while driving at high speed! Hopefully they didn't take the injections!😮

If the driver has a medical emergency, you're all gonna die.
That is why I sat in the back of the boat!
Name of the boat please 🙏🏻

Traumhaft genial
Very Fantastically brilliant

Going fast is fun.

Do they strap u in the boat?
Yes, you are secured by a lap bar.
Oh hell yes

Very dangerous ride
Somehow I survived.
They know what theyre doing. Theyve only been in business since 1965....
How much is this?

I have never been on a jet boat
You will enjoy it. There are places in the U.S.A. that run similar boats. Myrtle Beach, SC at "Beach Rider Jet Boats" located at "Broadway at the Beach"
And I never will!
Why no helmets?
It takes away from feeling the wind blowing through your hair.
The ride seemed very stable and I never had the feeling that it would roll or tip over.
I like
It good but dangerous
If I was on that I'd probably poo myself before even getting on it.. 😐😌
Why they not use helmets
They want to make their loved ones back home rich.
What if there was a cable across the river at head height.
I need to do this.
C'est où ?
The adventure is located near the town of Queenstown, New Zealand.
I hope that the project on the Chusovaya River will be successful.
Wow
I feel bad for tourists - they do not understand that it is not a game. If that speed boat hits a rock - not all of them will survive...
I discovered this video and had to look it up. I lived in New Zealand for over a year. Surprised they actually allow this they are a “progressive” country.
I never knew about these kinds of speed boats / giant jetski !
I feel sorry for you. Living in a world of what ifs...
@@jackb8598you only lived here for a year... you dont know shit about chop
Extrem
Looks a bit reckless....an accident at that speed would be Deadly.
No shit eh
At those speeds ONE wrong move and they go airborne with no helmets...clean up fish aisle!
круто

But does it have air bags ? 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤔🤣
Helmettttttt
Fish in the river love this
Which insurance company has a contract with them?
(kamikaze for passengers without helmet - too close to the rocks)
Let freedom ring!
Cry harder
love the asian guys face HAHAHA
Mokto bello, ma sono tutti pazzi !!!!
they need a helmet
No helm, safety first
No helmet? 😂
Not helmt..very dangerus
It adds a new perspective to the New Hampshire motto: "Live Free or Die".
Or should the motto for this adventure: "Live Free and Die!"
It's incredibly safe until it hits a rock and 6 people die
Engine failure is worry as I understand it has an impact on steering
Ni caca ba a quedar!! Jajaja
I wouldn't put my life in the hands of any of these drivers.
Thousands do..be a dare devil..

Why? Shotover jet has been going since 1965. No company stays in the tourist business that long unless they know what theyre doing...
