      @s2000 Mugen I guess at the end of the day, it really depends where someone’s passion in for driving. If it’s to tune and have more power then the AP2 is the better choice. If it’s for visceral experience raw experience, for me the AP1. There are no wrong answers with the S2K, just amazing machines all around.

    Hey man, great video. Loved my AP1 when i had it, and love my AP2 now. The secret sauce with the AP2 is to swing for the 04-05, you get all the chassis improvements without things like traction control or electronic throttle, only thing you miss is that sweet F20. I own both AP1 (2001) and AP (2006). I agree with the video. They are both great in their own ways. It really depends on what you're looking for. The 9k on the AP1 is an amazing experience but the 8k on the AP2 is also as awesome. It's not as easy as because of the 9k that makes the AP1 better. More doesn't always mean better. The more usable torque on the AP2 makes it a better daily driver. The AP1 steering wheel is tighter, which I like. 2006 and up are easier to tune since it's drive by wire.

But for as a secondary car, nothing comes close to the AP1 unless you get into the $60k+ price range. and a clean one of these is 20-30. (for now). Completely agree with the sentiment. My completely stock sabering silver 2005 AP2 is drive by cable and has no traction control option also. I got it because I like updated exterior looks, wider stock rims, lower 6th gear drive for better fuel economy for freeway cruising. I try to avoid any aftermarket parts because I wanted to drive the car Honda engineers designed the car to be driven and don't want to be grouped with the racing jdm import scene. Both cars are very similar, the AP2 is just a little bit quicker than the AP1 due to the torque by the numbers.
      I just did my first mod on the car last week after owning it for 12 years! I got a plug and play (no wire cutting) 3rd break light strobe mod. It blinks 6 times and turns red solid each time I press the breaks. I got it mainly for safety to get the attention of drivers behind me because I get tailgated all the time by big cars like SUVs. I assume it's because the s2k is a small car so drivers think they are alot further away from me than reality. In California, it is the only state to legalize rear flashing break lights.
      I still use the OEM radio, so I bought a cigarette transmitter that allows me to pair my smartphone to the OEM deck via Bluetooth to stream music and gps navigation for turn by turn instructions. Having a Samsung smart watch paired with the phone is nice. I can navigate GPS turn by turn visually and change songs on my phone with my watch without breaking the law as I drive.

    Everyone talks about the redline, but they changed a lot. The AP1 has a faster steering ratio. They slowed it down for the AP2 and brought it back for the CR. The AP2 has a heavier flywheel and different gear ratios too. Suspension bits were changed too. The AP1 is definitely more raw and the AP2 is more comfort focused for the American market.

  • @FernandoGarcia-dc2mj
    @FernandoGarcia-dc2mj Рік тому +2

    In all I feel that the AP1 is just the more affordable option. The AP2 is the better car and motor, hence the consistently better lap times. As for 9k argument, an f22 can be tuned to do that also. Most kids into these just can't afford the AP2. No one would trade their AP2 for an AP1 but an AP1 owner would trade up to an AP2 in a heartbeat. The rawness and lack of aids, those things can be easily disabled, but for someone who is going to spend most of their time in civilian traffic why would you want to. Also, the whole DBW vs Cable, well DBW is also an upgrade in every way that can also be tuned via ECU, they are so many benefits from flat foot shifting, launch control etc. hence the reason why many people convert cable to DBW in some older sports cars.

    I'm a firm believer in truly "driving" my cars, and I prefer to keep them bonestock.
    AP2 is definitely the way to go if you love to "drive" cars like me. Over bumps on high speed turns, the AP1 will straight up kill you. Unless you tune out that snap oversteer, you're going straight into a tree / off the canyon. It's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of physics. The limit for the AP1 is way below what you'd think the chassis would allow, because Honda completely fucked up the suspension set-up from factory. Once you go above the limit, there is no amount of skill that can save you.
    The AP2 doesn't have that problem. Therefore to me, the better choice is obvious.
    But if you're only city driving or highway driving in a straight line and only taking turns at intersections. Then the AP1 is a fine choice.

    • @bornagainmotoring
      @bornagainmotoring  Рік тому

      I appreciate you sharing your perspective… I don’t completely agree with what you said in terms of skill. The right amount of skill would entail knowing the driving environment and not putting in the wrong inputs at the wrong time in a front mid-engined car with snap oversteer and no driver’s aids. Sure, once the line is crossed, very rarely can it be saved but with high enough skill that shouldn’t happen. Additionally, the AP2 with all driver’s aids on and a driver lacking in skill and inputs can mess up badly, the chances are just lower. Both are great cars.

    You can't go wrong with either the Ap1 or Ap2, but the notion that the Ap1 is more raw is a misconception. The 04-05 Ap2 (no driving aids, no TPMS, no drive by wire) are just as raw as the Ap1, while having a slightly more durable motor, shorter gear ratio and a stronger LSD. The rev limit of the Ap2 is 8200rpm vs the 88rpm of the Ap1, so it's only a 600 difference. Besides a bit more torque, the Ap2 motor also makes about 10hp across the entire rev curve (Honda used a different calculation method for the Ap2).

Both great platforms but with the rear suspension being a bit more tail happy + the lack of aids + a little bit less “unreliability” (it’s still reliable😂) my conclusion is still that it’s more raw between the two.

    I wish I was the size of Gary Coleman for a day so I could drive one of these oldies.

      Funniest comment all morning 😂
      You don’t have to be that short! For reference, I’m 6ft even so maybe just wish for that for a day?

    Ap2 looks better 😅

      I do love me some AP2 aesthetics but I'm in favor of the AP1 as long as it has the factory lip and spoiler like mine. Most AP1s I see are lipless and look a little incomplete. At first I wanted to drop the headlights and taillights for the AP2 versions but they really started to grow on me. I also prefer the AP1 bumper as it has that dark contrast on the bottom.

      This was my old intro and I have since learned a few things since publishing this video, although my newer may still have some elevated noise levels. Thanks for stopping by!

    Ap2 is a downgrade . S2000 was famous for the Hp/l for an N/A engine . Also for the driving experience. Driver and the car, without any help. Ap2 was for weak drivers and people that don't care about that unique record of its time. For regular Americans some Ap3 . 3l V8 auto would have been the best. So their opinion about this car is irrelevant

      I agree with the HP/Liter and driving experience part. There are just somethings that you cannot find in other cars. I do believe it’s also a mindset and experience thing as well. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be at a point where they can experience the raw thrill and AP1 has to offer or they, do to past trauma May like the stability the AP2 offers. That’s part of the human condition. I will say that I’m glad to be able to truly enjoy the characteristics this AP1 offers.

      @@bornagainmotoring when i bought my ap1 was on Potenza Re002. Very unpredictable and dangerous. I replaced them with Re050 made in Europe also. Still not good and not fast enough on track for street tires. Then i tried the original tires that came on car from new. Much faster on track and the car became so easy to drive. Just like my Fwd Prelude. Now i enjoy the car and i understand exactly what Uehara wanted with this machine. In the end i guess people are going in the wrong direction when they start to change things with this car and not respecting Honda engineering. They were made to be fun , easier to drive than people think and more reliable if they are kept with original parts and service items

      I do view Honda as very meticulous when it comes to their engineering processes… especially that era of Honda. It’s something I really appreciate about them. In my opinion, there’s something special about driving stock cars and maxing out the capability from every manufacturer.
