Sonic is one of the baffling franchises where they can create nostalgia for bad things and even make you look forwards to seeing them in the future. Generations makes 06 stuff seem weirdly cool, and now this whole Shadow half of it makes the original Shadow the Hedgehog seem like worth playing.

Which seems to be a strong indication that Mephiles is referring to being erased when Elise blew out the flame of Solaris, but likely as a result of the White Space literally existing outside of time, an aspect of him still exists, trying to claw his way back in.

I finished the Campaign last night and the ending is just so good. I love shadow. In regards to there being future game content, from a story standpoint I like to look at it as a form of symbolism where Shadow must continue to look forward towards the future instead of mourning the past of his lost ones. I know damn well that likely wasn't their intention and they simply just needed games to pull from but I would like to think that the case considering the message of Shadow's story.
