I think Duolingo is most useful when starting out a new language, especially in regards to familiarizing yourself with the basic grammar. It's a decent way to supplement your learning, but otherwise I've found it to be a bit too tedious and repetitive at times.
I've found that watching videos in Spanish about topics I'm interested in is an engaging way to get input. Another way has been to watch Spanish grammar videos that are primarily in Spanish. I think the best way to practice listening is to find videos spoken at a native speaker's natural pace that use common but practical expressions and grammar that aren't too colloquial or region specific. I can understand most Spanish very well that isn't slang heavy.@@aurasinsight
