How to Shoot from a Helicopter
Вставка

- This is the only civilian legal helicopter shooting course available outside of US. It is a two day course organized by Helitom and Hard Task and it has exceeded all of our expectations.
It's not cheap but we can't wait to do it again :)

Thank you so much guys for making this video. I hope I will see you soon.
great helicopter ride !
my immediate thought was "oh that's the hog shooting thing in texas" lol
Black Hawk Down....
@@ulflyng More like Black Hog Down #DadJokes
Is that Gun Jesus? Ian McCollum from forgotten weapons?
No, I believe that is Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history.
@@tnycrmb@10:55 that's clearly not Jonathan Ferguson, Jonathan is very British, unless you are being sarcastic or thinking about a different person in the video
yes, that's Ian
@legion162 You're right, it is very clearly the man posessed by the spirit of a talking balaclava, administrative results. I don't know how anyone could think it was Jonathan Ferguson, he doesn't look British at all. Just look at his teeth, they're all white and straight.
4:05 who the heck is that fluffwaffling the bottom of the magazine with booger hook on bang switch prior to even knowing where he's pew-ing? lmao
Really cool video! Looks like you guys had fun!
I had the opportunity to run an M240B from the side of a Chinook when I was enlisted during an aerial gunnery range, and have also enjoyed some bacon that was taken from the air as well.
One critical thing they taught us during aerial gunnery was that shooting from a moving bird is one of the few times your moving target might actually be moving slower than you, so the concept of leading ends up being turned on its ear. Instead of aiming where the moving target is going to be from your stationary position, you also have to compensate for your own forward momentum, which in some situations amounts to reverse lead, where you're aiming behind the target. It's definitely tough, props on the good hits!
Thank you!
Newer rode a Chinook before, only seen one from a distance. What a machine! Must be cool as hell :D
Leading the target was one of the things we discussed and the other one was how our shots will land lower than expected. At first we thought it was because of the down rotor wash but apparently that has minimal effect at 100 meters. The actual culprit is that we were shooting downward from a raised platform.
You could actually calculate the POI shift but in reality all these variables are always changing so there is always some guesstimating involved :D
It’s amazing to see opportunities like this available for civilians, even outside the US. Definitely a bucket list experience for any gun enthusiast-though the price tag might mean saving up for a while!
Gave me flashbacks to watching "Wild Kingdom" choppers chasing rhinos and elephants when I was a kid. Riding in CH-47s is a different story, but probably just as adrenaline rushing. My 1st chopper ride was @Wisconsin Dells when I was about 10 yrs old. "Get to da choppa!"
I had a co-worker who was a door gunner in Vietnam. He said they would hang their M60s from a bungee cord inside the chopper.
Pro tip: I recommend your limiting strap be a bungee type, where it’s max stretch is at full height. This will help eliminate some of those unwanted vibrations. Double buckle setup where top buckle is your max height. Then you can adjust up and down on the tension while retaining your max position locked on the sling. So if your shot angle is more down, you can synch down your bungee to give it pretension without loosing your max elevation setting. Thus acting as a built in spring to stop the vibrations from the main rotor and help provide more control.
But you need fight with pull down force can tire your hands faster.
@ adjustable slings make it easy with pull tab on sling. Just a technique not for everyone. I have also seen a variety of horizontal support systems to help reduce and support the use of a firearm while in flight. The airbus has many nato compliant designs, however it isn’t the preferred smalls arms support aircraft. I will say the quick stop of the aircraft into a firing zone brings in a large change of aerodynamic forces on your round when your transitioning from forward flight back into effective translational lift. The rotor wash is very dynamic during that period.
Question for the group, I probably already know the answer to this. Did you find it easy to get on target during sustained forward flight or during the quick stop maneuver?
That looks like a load of fun. All my helo flights, in service, were for transport only. We were lucky.
No pilot calls it a "Cobra Maneuver". We just call it a "flare", which is used to slow down quickly. I don't know why it is called a flare.
I assume both terms have to do with how a cobra flares its hood in a similar motion.
@ I assumed it is because that is the same name Su-27 pilots gave to a maneuver that would allow them to drop a lot of airspeed quickly without losing altitude.
I dont think any of us can get past step 1
but it's the most important one!
Samo: "Helicopter Helicopter!"
Who'd have thought he DID summon a helicopter?!
Best commercial ever. I'm in!
Hahahahah. I had some guy shooting my target when trying to zero. Drove me nuts. "French b4st3rd" 😂😂
This is one of the things the Austrian police unit EKO Cobra trains in. It's humbling to see just how difficult this is. I hope it was every bit as amazing as it looked.
Badass Ziga. Looks like so much fun. Lol at Ian's comment about the black balloon.
Scary that they had you going in and out of the rotor arc at the nose… we were always trained that the arc can dip down to 4ft at the nose, and to enter and exit to the sides. You still have your head(s)…. Must be different with that model.
On level landing terrain this wasn't an issue with this helicopter, there is enough safety clearance. If the helicopter has a lower rotor it would be more appropriate to approach it from the side. Procedure is always decided and confirmed after seeing the landing site
Very cool footage. Not like you need this as a skill but definitely worth for experience.
Always fun to see Ziga and Ian joking around.
Would be a dream vacation.
In America you can just buy those helicopters build kits, make one and fly it. You have to pass a class and get certified but it is easy. I want to build one.
just because you can buy a mosquito for $30k doesn't mean you should
It's not that simple. But go ahead and try.
@@_datapoint I takes a lot of flight time, getting a license, and building a helicopter. Of course it isn't that simple. 10K ft overview. Seems pretty straight forward though, just have to be committed. Jeff Dunham does it, he play with dolls for a living. LOL
Hot brass in the tail rotor pedal controls is a big problem.
How surpising..
@ I hope you have a good day, enjoy your coffee where ever you are on this planet.
Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Only 3 sec? well just going to say this, 3 sec can feel like a life time depending on what's happening around you!
step1: 40mm H.E. launcher
step2: semtex remote detonator charge pack
step3: 5 gallon fuel can w/cannon fuse
Forgotten Weapons guy Ian makes a student presence
Forgive me if i missed it, but im dissapointed i didnt hear a single "1 shot thru the engine block" reference
It looks like a blast
Super cool
"Helicopter helicopting!"
🙌🚁
Happy New Year, Polenar
Happy New Year, alfredjr2k556! :D
looks sooo fun
Super fun and awesome video!!! 🤩 By the way, i'm stuck on point "1".. i don't know how to get an helicopter XD 😂😂😂
Thanks!
You just need to be persistent and work on it - it's the most important step 😆
Very cool and great explanations! 👌😊
thanks!
Getting ready to take revenge on that helicopter ruining that one video about Arex MTX simunition
indeed
Belt feds work better from helicopters , great video 👍
Yep, mine was a 20mm, but that was another war in another world, many years ago…
@davidpyle7333 big is good !
Awesome video, new skills unlocked
Thanks!
You're meant to say "get some" when you shoot.
"Get to de CHOPPA!"
Cool course.
I love helicopters they're so awesome 👍
Step 1 - get a helicopter... lmao
it's the most important step... and also the hardest
@PolenarTactical depends on who you know
Is it possible to skip the 1st step and still be successful. I still haven't aquire a k
Helicopter.
Kobra is from military aviation, usually performed by jet fighters. I believe helicopters in Ukraine use its variations to enhance the range of the unguided missiles shot from the pods.
interesting that you didn't run a Suppressor cover. I'd be worried about burning my legs
Not needed for this class, it was very low round count with enough time in between to cool down
Olesko my love. The real escape for border near Germans like me :)
yeah, it's a great range
Hang on, you have to rezero your rifle if you attach a suppressor?
Suppressors put drag on the bullet, so yeah.
Depends of the rifle and suppressor but at least you need to confirm zero. Suppressor is adding extra weight on your barrel and also changes the geometry of gasses. If not anything else it adds some velocity to the bullet.
Most modern quality suppressors have a minimal POI shift when mounted on a rifle
@@PolenarTactical this is noted. Congratulations on doing so great this year. More power to Polenar Tactical!!!!
@@richiecarang Thank you! :)
or a bayonet, or any muzzle device, for that matter, yes.
Happy New Year from France 💌
Happy New Year!
@1:10 Sweet Battle Jesus
So rad!
Darn! Step 1 gives me the most trouble!
but it's the most important step!
We could also call the "cobra maneuver" just how you slow down in a helicopter.
Actually, Cobra sounds cooler. Let's go with that.
Ian from Forgotten Weapons Jumpscare at 1:10
Step 1 get belt fed
Step 2 walk onto target
In heli?:)
No Valkyrie background music, this is quite disappointing ! 😢
No "fortunate son" too, I dont like overused stuff 😅
Looks cool, you need duplex ammunition. XD
or a machinegun...
@@PolenarTactical Which machinegun would you choose?
that was so fucking cool. I'd love to do a course like that
Starts saving for a helicopter...
Was it harder for lefty’s ?
yes, definitely harder
Why am I even learning how to shoot from a helicopter? Lol
Watching without sound the captions were telling me about the "breast catcher" but I was very disappointed when I turned the sound on...
Call cobra because the cobra SNAKE rears up like that.
Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much!
🤮
Looks expensive! But also cool.
Install a mini gun on a door mount
😁😁
that would be amazing :O
Bravo!!!
Actually the Cobra maneuver is named after John Cobra Senior, that's John Cobra Jr.'s father.
Žiga is probably honorary Czech already :)
by the amount of their beer that i drink, i'm practically Czech already 😄
As an ill-handed person as well I have to ask, did Ian have any issues connected to that he is a lefty while shooting from the left side of the helicopter? Is it better to shoot from the right arm in that case or can you manage the usual way? :)
Oh ya baby!
Cool
You had me at "shoot" then you lost me at "find yourself a hellicopter"
Safety harness… we called them money-tails !
Lol:).)
And how much does such a 2 day course cost if you pay full price? I can't imagine it's cheap...
it was 1100€ but im not sure if that was a special price for the Czech Combat Shooting attendees
@@PolenarTactical thank you for the honest answer
Quite dangerous flagging on 12:50 towards the people on the ground.
So if a helicopter is moving at a speed of 150 Mph, from left to right, do you shoot the target dead center? Or do you aim a bit to the left?
I'm asking because i really don't know if the bullet goes along the direction of the heli..
10:26 i think there's my answer 😂
12:15 hahaha a follow up answer.
Im french and i have SUPRESS on my ak and VHS2 ...
I can't even afford a gun, let alone a helicopter lmfao
The guy is Frank from underhell
I have done this before but the copter was not moving.
I'm jealous 😁
Adrenaline rush - Helicopter held together by duct tape.
Too funny!
Easy, just don't lead them so much.
"Ain't war hell?"
4:10 a little fact check. supressors are legal in most european countries. in norway you can own a supressor if you apply for it at the police station. most of the time they will be aprooved anyways cause well. guns are loud
Žiga said they’re not legal in all European countries, not that they are illegal in all of them. Since they aren’t legal in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia, Lithuania, Belarus, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, Moldova, Greece, etc., … Žiga was 100% correct in that they are not legal in some European countries (MANY, in fact).
Nordic brain on full display
But I like supreses on my gun
what? no, suppressors are over the counter in norway like any other firearms accessory. there is no application. get your facts straight before posting your "little fact check".
Your fact check is full of errors.
@@joffeloff for hunting rifles yes. for semi autos no
I thought the first lesson in shooting from a helicopter was
Use gun that goes buuuurrrr
imagine suppressing & brass catcher-ing a 134
I notice he was shooting left-handed. Does anyone have any tips for left-handed shooters?
cool :)
Too much fun - must why government here doesn't allow it.......right?!?
1:10 is that Ian McCollum ?
10:54
9:56 😢
I have a feeling that everytime when Žiga is with Ian, he just annoys the shit out of him, with very very cringe facts about firearms and history alone thats just arent true. Also touches Ians beard too or tries too
No chance they're just hamming it up for the camera because most of us think its funny eh?
I'm less annoying in person but i love my long conversations with Ian (how romantic 😆)
He knows so much about guns and history that im constantly learning new things
Step 1: Ehh, can I phone a friend?
This is not how we do it in Australia.. :)
Easy, ya just don't lead em so much.
Ziga and Ian need to make friends with a rich American rancher and go hog hunting from a helicopter
He was resting the suppressor on the tire to maintain its chi. Only the fastest operators do that. And who has time to sight in a rifle. pfft
It made such a difference that he completely missed the target 😆
At least he didnt get a baffle strike...
9:38 - not as easily as ya think... granted if someone really wanted to fall out, they could. But the same forces that enable the heli to turn like that are shoving you down into the seat
It's really not easy.
You're not a flight risk?
4:05 who the heck is that fluffwaffling the bottom of the magazine with booger hook on bang switch prior to even knowing where he's pew-ing? lmao
