Only David Suchet was Hercule Poirot, he played the part just as he was written by Agatha Christie in her books. Just as Joan Hickson was the exact replica of Miss Marple. They fitted the image I had in my mind as I owned all Agatha Christie's books & as I never went to the movies or watched tv, I was horrified when I finally saw some of the films on tv in the 1990s when I owned one. They just didn't fit my image. I then went out in the early 2000s to buy the videos of both these actors which I still own today but now watch them on youtube from time to time when looking for something to watch.
What a lovely compilation! It’s disappointing David Suchet never did a production of the lay Black Coffee. One of my favs. I truly appreciate you highlighting David Suchet’s faithas well as his audio recording of the Bible. ❤
It'd be interesting to see an analysis of how Poirot has been portrayed in computer games. I've played a number of them, and there are two new ones I need to buy and play sometime. A ranking of them, perhaps? Suchet has voiced Poirot in one of the games.
@@marina_via He certainly did one version of 'Murder on the Orient Express' years ago (not the one that's been released recently). So he actually did 'Orient Express' as a voice character before they filmed it for the ITV series. I'm not sure if he also did 'Evil Under the Sun'. There's been an 'ABC Murders', and a series which has 'First Cases', 'The London Case', and a new version of 'Orient Express'. But I think Suchet only did the first one I mentioned.
I always enjoy your videos. I also love your pleasant voice and lovely accent. I like that you mention that various portrayals of Poirot make the character younger, funnier, or better looking than the books. David Suchet was far younger than Poirot in ANY story, and was incredibly handsome while Ustinov was far funnier and goofier than in the books. When I read Poirot stories, I do not see Suchet, since he is far too young and far more handsome than book Poirot. I see the character that Christie wrote.
Davis Suchets attention to Agatha Christie details from the books makes him tower over anyone else. Suchet becomes Poirot - period 😂 Greetings from Denmark 😊
Marina, I do love Mrs Ariadne Oliver ❤❤❤ Do you have any programmes about Her❤️❤️❤️Zoe W. Is my beloved actress ❤❤❤Her Mrs Oliver was just delight ❤❤❤❤
Hi, Olga! Thank you so much! Yeah, I do have a video about Ariadne, find it here: ua-cam.com/video/N4HDQYWzLu8/v-deo.htmlsi=j0bc1p-uKPxHFxXS And my next video next week will be about Zoe Wanamaker!
You are lovely. To bother to remember someone the way you have. Peter Ustinov is my favorite Hercule. I adore him. Albert Finney and David Suchet are my equal seconds. I am also very greatful to Branagh, for keeping it alive.
David Suchet 🥇 Peter Ustinov 🥈 Albert Finney 🥉 Agatha Christie deserves this 🏆 for giving the world our beloved Belgium 🇧🇪 sleuth ❤️ Hercule Poirot ❤️ I give you this 💐 for this review 😁
I already worked out about his age one time! There is a late book depicting him in the Swinging 60s.. He must live lived to 120 or so :) I like Suchet best, followed by Ustinov (the latter is not my idea of Poirot, but quite entertaining to watch). Branagh I don't find convincing at all.
Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot was a retired Belgium policeman before WW1, who became one of the 250,000 Belgium refugees in Britain after the German invasion. When he was possibly in his 60s. I stopped watching the latest 2022 Death on the Nile film, when I saw Kenneth Branagh had turned him into a heroic Belgium infantryman fighting the Germans.
I really like the episode double clue because I thought the relationship between Poirot and the countess was really sweet but it was really sad when they departed in labours of Hercules because he obviously couldn’t let her psycho daughter get away with murder.
I love Peter Ustinov, but his Poirot was too much of a buffoon. Albert Finney's was too grotesque and Branagh's is just ridiculous - the whole point of Poirot is that he's not a man of action but of intellect. Only Suchet was able to give us a Poirot with the perfect blend of arrogance & sometimes childish petulance balanced by empathy, humour and kindness.
This story about Poirot at war as for me doesn't fit him at all. Even if we to assume, that he was younger, he was already known detective and, I think, would not have been specifically attracted to the front.
Branagh’s portrayal of Poirot is as usual nothing but a vanity project and he managed to make Poirot look like a member of the Keystone Kops! I liked Albert Finney as an actor but his Poirot was dreadful and Peter Ustinov just tried too hard and ended up looking ridiculous. Loved David Suchet.😊
Great coverage of Poirot & his portrayers; however, Kenneth Branagh is from Northern Ireland, not Great Britain, so it might be more accurate to describe him either as a U.K. actor or as an Irish actor, but not as a British actor.
When Poirot is asked that question in one of the stories, he says that he uses broken English because it makes people think him an object of ridicule and they don’t take him seriously; so he is able to make his investigations without arousing their suspicions.
The Kenneth Branagh adaptations are awful. "A Haunting in Venice" is the worst Poirot movie ever made-a gaudy and pointless show off vehicle for his role as director. It is even reduced to insulting the iconic character of Ariadne Oliver!
David Suchet. Never cared for Peter Ustinov. Kenneth Branagh is too full of himself and every movie he’s made as Poirot has been an abomination. Death on the Nile was so bad, I could barely finish it. Albert Finney left no lasting impression which indicates, not so fabulous, be it the film, the acting, the writing, or all of the above. No one, can or likely ever will come close to Suchet. Branagh is an arrogant fool to even attempt the role during Suchet’s lifetime. BTW, adding an all star cast, Johnny Depp, Gal Gadot, etc., actually made it more embarrassing! Awful! Suchet, got better with time, like fine wine. Ms. Lemon always looked like she smelled good. Hastings was a bit of a nerdy bore, but a faithful and loyal one, and I guess that was just the role. And Chief Inspector Japp, I liked always, very much. I suppose, I never fully understood Hastings purpose outside of being Poirot’s friend, thereby giving him some humanity. Unlike Dr. Watson, however, who as a doctor is useful on murder scenes, as a former military man, carries a pistol, but most importantly, gives the reader an absolute scale by which to assess Holmes’ abnormality superior intellect. ie.) By comparison, Watson seems dumb. The Poirot series had some truly scary, killer, episodes. Once they added the quirky, side character, authoress, Zoē Wanamaker, the show went from brilliant to superb! I wish she had been featured more! Truly, one of the best shows in years. And best mystery series, probably, ever!
Hugh Fraser as Hastings is my favorite!
Mine too.
Thx for this in depth discussion of Poirot and his histary. Brilliant! My vote for David Suchet. Watching the whole series again right now.
David Suchet IS Poirot NO one else comes close
👍✌️😉
Im so happy to see this. I loved the books and the ITV/BBC show too. For me, who grew up with ITV version, David Suchet will always be Poirot.
my story too :-)
When Marina posts, you know it's going to be great!

@@louisebrislane6607 David Suchet IS Poirot. Geraldine McEwan IS miss Marple
I missed Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon in the TV series. I was so disappointed that I did not watch the series anymore.
Hastings only appeared in 8 of the novels, so we were lucky to have him in as many episodes as we did . 😊
Brilliant content! Thank you, Marina!

So joyful and interesting. Thank you so much Marina! 😄👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think I saw a few years ago the Bible and Agatha Christie were among the most sold books in the world . Can you imagine Sir. Suchet read both
The Bible 🥇
Shakespeare 🥈
Agatha Christie 🥉
David Suchet is the only Hercule Poirot that touches my heart!!!❤
Boring opinion.

Tony Randall also portrayed Poirot in "The Alphabet Murders," 1965, which was mostly played for laughs.

I like Zoe very much except how she tosses apple cores out of her car!
Hurcule Poirot's true love was a Russian Countess.

Bence en iyi pirot David Suchet
I rememger the rule of law.
Could somebody tell me why Poirot, whose English is good, most of the times makes grammatically mistakes? Like: Tell to me, Pls to sit down, etc.
I guess, that's a rather over-selling nod to his foreign roots
When Poirot is asked that question in one of the stories, he says that he uses broken English because it makes people think him an object of ridicule and they don’t take him seriously; so he is able to make his investigations without arousing their suspicions.
Only Suchet but Branagh was watchable Ustinov was dreadful.
Branagh was however the ultimate Kurt Wallander
