I enjoyed this video so much, only partly because of the watch, but because Tim clearly enjoyed it, with all the classical references. Very well scripted mate! As for the watch, I got to say its a stunner. The dial is idiosyncratic and distinct, and when I glance at it, it seems a little disparate, but when you actually gaze at it, it is unique and works. I mean if you can afford it, take one of these over a Nautilus for sure
Proud owner of one. Have to say that this watch is better than any sports models from PP, AP or Rolex. So easy to wear and just stunning. Awesome review. Lange's time has come. Id rather buy any Lange than any other maker. I predict that their aftermarket prices will rocket.
Didn't turn out so hot. Prices have been basically flat or declining, in line with the rest of the watch market over the last year. Still my grail watch.
How refreshing to view a presentation in a raw format . . . introduction, fact, fact, fact, alternative, summary! Just for the record, I'll take the HECTOR first, even before the exquisite MOSER 🙂
One of my favorite timepieces, A shame the Miami boutique won’t even take your name for one. It’s absolutely stunning. The roosters will come home soon & the watch industry will beg us to buy like in the early 2000s
Is Miami really not taking names at all, even with a good purchase history or bundling?? I know of people who have recently gotten on the waitlist at other boutiques.
Nice video Tim. Good to see Lange gaining appreciation in the sports watch jonra. I just wish they could bring more Odysseus to the market but I'm sure this is not gonna happen any time soon🙂 Cheers, Amintas
I am a big fan of ALS, but this Odysseus's design does not sit well as a sports watch in me; feels like a boosted classic Saxonia. Perhaps the second generation will be more distinct.
Great Great video as usual. I do wonder why ALS' boxes and presentation materials are so plain. Perhaps the Teutonic tendencies coming through. They could do better.
The only thing lange lacks in is the boxes IMO 🤷🏻♂️ the long ones for the saconia are nice because they’re so simple but the square ones lack something, I’m not sure what but they can definitely do better 😂 everything else about the brand is amazing, blows the patek and AP out of the water
Easily blows AP out of proportion. Although i still believe Patek is on par with Lange. At the end of the day it is one's taste that matters. But again, Being on par with Patek is a huge feat in itself
The steel bracelet looks great, however, the way they blended the leather band is not pleasing to the eye. Because the watch itself is so well done, it makes up for the awkward integration.
For future videos please consider discussing availability at retail, average wait times etc. I have a Saxonia moonphase bought at retail and even being an existing customer, I cannot get on the steel Odysseus waitlist at their boutique. Word is, you have to own two Lange pieces before you’re even considered
I'll do my best, but we're a preowned vendor with only occasional windows into retail sales. I do know that you'll be forced to buy a bunch of other stuff from Lange just to be considered for an Odysseus, and at that point, I'm looking for alternatives. Best, Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews Thanks for the reply. Yes I need to remind myself you're a pre-owned vendor and more importantly a trusted vendor. Like they say, you don't just buy the watch but you buy the guy selling you the watch. Great video I am a huge Lange fan boy now just from the Saxonia which is a 'modest' and under-the-radar piece in their current collection.

The bracelet needs a redesign, the dial is amazing, but the steel bracelet looks like they kidnapped an Omega designer and finished his design to ALS standards
Thanks for your take! Here's mine: I bought this white gold Odysseus from WatchBox last year for what looks like a bargain now (April 2022) -- $55,000. I owned it for about three months before I let it go. While this was not my only ALS piece, I never bonded with it because of the lugs and the way they look sticking out from the case. There is no elegance to it and it just doesn't work for me. I certainly appreciate all the specs of the watch and the movement is excellent, but to make this a regular or daily wearer, which was my goal, I just couldn't abide. Sorry, but the watch looks ugly with those lugs.
Same with the Royal Oak and Overseas. That's what happens when watch makers insist on proprietary endlinks. They force you to stay within their ecosystem a la Apple.
@@timeisahumanconstruct9251 apple doesn't really force you to do anything that's a pretty bad analogy imo. What apple does is provide products that are engineered to have convenient features enabled on their own product spheres. In what way is apple forcing you to buy anything? They don't as i said. They make their own products that aren't engineered to work with all devices because it would be wildly expensive (and weird tbh) to construct such an ecosystem outside your own portfolio. They don't force you to buy the magic keyboard for their ipads, you can get logitechs instead. They don't force you to use apple displays, they use standard display port protocols. They don't force you to use any wireless accessory, they all have bluetooth etc etc. Why are you trying to shoe horn apple in a watch discussion? Ayee?
@@fVNzO My only thought is that I have a preference for watches that allow easy access to third-party 20mm straps and bracelets. It gives us consumers maximum options.
Loved this "collector's take" format. More please! (Especially for independents.)
I was able to get the WG on the rubber strap in Dec. It is a watch that has to been seen in the flesh. Love at first sight

Heading to my Lange AD to befriend him and talk about my “passion” for Lange, fingers crossed i get on the list, Saturday afternoon sorted!
Man, Sean's forearm/wrist skin and hair density is absolutely perfect. Nice watch.
SUG/Sinn makes the case!? SURPRISED! 😮 love this watch❤

@@christopherh.8124 fwiw I just got onto the WG Odysseus waitlist after putting down on a platinum Datograph (and already purchased a Lange 1).
Love this series! And this watch. 🍻

Great review Tim. Odysseus is a beautiful piece. 👍
Thanks, Russell!

This is imo the best and most beautiful sports watch, no AP, no VC, no Patek
Great review, your knowledge of timepieces is incredible 👍🏻🇬🇧

It doesn't matter how nice the finishing is when its ugly. Between this and the Code whatever from AP, what is the Holy Trinity +1 thinking?

I agree the bracelet looks better (on the wrist, not in photos), although you and I are probably in the minority!
Actually, it doesn't make up for the awkward integration. See my comment below -- I owned one and got rid of it after 3 months for that very reason.
I really enjoyed this series. Can’t wait for that Hector to be featured one day.
This watch is perfection.
Great content: No surprise. Leanin' on Homer? BRILLIANTLY conceived n cleverly (Odysseus?) executed. 😉
I'm glad somebody appreciated that ;--)
Best,
Tim
I’ve always found the bracelet integration and lug spacing too odd on this watch. It looks much, much better on a strap.

Your presentation is more impressive than the subject. The watch is beautiful but I’d have the Cartier. And not just because of the price.

OMG, it's Outis
My other consideration would be the Breguet Marine. Both are beautiful watches and neither are seen on many wrists.
great suggestion, the Marine really is good, not widely seen and has a similar vibe to the Odysseus, a classic refined watchmaker in the sports field
Thank you
Love your energy. Watch not so much
