- This 1962 Volkswagen Type 2 Van/Bus has been sitting for over 40 years. Let's see if we can bring it back to life!
when the right door opens, so cool the automatic shut off mechanism. Great work
Ct....I'm happy for you..You're not pretentious. You're a regular guy learning as you go and at the same time teaching all of us. I'm 72 would love a neighbor like you doing his thing. Happy New Year, I'm I'm sorry I don't know your name.
Congratulations nothing like the feeling of riding in something you built with your own two hands
Central California Watching

Thanks man!😎
Ah, the high-quality workmanship and simplicity of early Volkswagens is sorely missed! As I personally remember, the world was *a lot different* the last time this Volkswagen bus was on the road (and I was a lot younger). In those days, there were *two* Germanys.
True, this one has two obvious things my '60 didn't have.
A radio and a gas gauge
Congratulations CT your hard work paid off
Congratulations man.
It is an example of perseverance and effort, but above all of the passion for mechanics, it is not a job, it is a pleasure.
This series of videos has made me bring to my mind and senses the time when my grandfather drove a vw panel just like yours.
It is a mixture of nostalgia, joy, tears and sighs.
Greetings from Guatemala.
What a thrill you must have felt to have this going down the road after all your hard work. Great job!
It was was awesome! Thanks Michele! =)
Our beetles look very close to eachother, shade of blue is different tho
@@That1Guineapig. It was painted with a paint brush by a previous owner. I need to get the color checked so I can do some spot repairs.
Nice to see your face! So many guys with restoration channels never show their face. You just see their hands and hear their voices. I've been watching this one tv restoration guy on UA-cam for almost a decade and I still don't know what he looks like.
Rode in a lot of VW vans in the 60s and 70s.
Acompanho essa maluquice desde o inicio... poucos entendem a alegria que um carro "velho" pode proporcionar. Good Luck and congratulations from Brazil.
Como diria o Tonella, a verdadeira novela de macho hahhahahhahhaaha
Mrs. CT is the most understanding lady ever. Great stuff as usual my man!
Fantastic CT, a true milestone in the restoration. I’m so pleased for you, well done
Thanks Aussie! 😁
I was 17 in 1992 when I bought a "stacked" 1966 Deluxe Bus for $1800. It sat in my driveway for 6 months and on the last day of high school I drove it to school. I kept it for 2 years before I realized I needed a safer more reliable daily driver (the seals in the windows sucked and it was always cold inside). At any rate I ended up selling it for $1200 and taking a $3000 check from a settlement after an accident. That was another reason I let it go. At any rate we had to do an overhaul initially to get it on the road. We threw in an additional $2200 for engine parts, replacement front end, electrical rewiring, and other needs. I am happy I got rid of it but sad those 2 years ended so soon. It just was not the vehicle to have at the time.
I know how stoked you were when you saw it running! It is excelerating when a "plan comes together!"
And finally it runs after so many videos 👍👍
Great work ct
Merry Christmas and hooray rusty is running like a champ wow!
debería tener traducción al Español ..ya que es Excelente este video de Resurrección de un WW

Congrats from Denmark, CT. You did it...👍
Thank you my friend! =)

Hell yeah Rusty is moving under his own power! Man that engine just purrs. Good job ct.
Yes yes yes!!! So pleased for you!
Congratulations!!! Good job 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻
ROCK &ROLL , YAY!!! Had the same moment with my '58 bus 3 weeks ago, except it was -17C and I just couldn't wait till spring. Remember to clamp all the fuel line connections from the pump to the carb! Keep on Dubbin' !
You have done a very good Job on this bus this good
looked bud desperate but now it is already moving congratulations
it's just amazing, congratulations. brazil come you.
Well I gotta say nice Christmas gift ,to get your VW running. I know the feeling cause I felt the same way when I got my Volvo 240 wagon after 4 years working on it . Congratulations !!!!
Very well done 👍 you've worked hard to get to this point.... Enjoy Alan Stockley UK.
Nicely done CT
nice without words it runs . nice job.
I remember there were quite a fiew commenters on this channel a while ago who said that you just keep buying a lot of parts but don´t get anything done. I´d say, this video is some major progress!
Thank you! I appreciate that my friend =)
Wow!
I am a German VW enthusiast. I own a 1974 VW 1303 Convertible.
You made a great job. I hope, you let as much as possible of the original parts in the truck? He have such an amazing patina, please conserve it for preventing further rust but don't make a "new" car out of it. The rust is part of its history and makes him to an special, unique time-capsula, I think!
Good luck for the further steps!
Konrad
Yes, I agree. He will stay Rusty! Thank you! =) Stay tuned!
Happy for you, I really like the engine sound 😁 Merry Christmas!
Congratulations CT! More than a year following the progress of Kombosa and finally it's alive! Hugs from Manaus AM Brazil! 😎🤟🤟
Love these old VW buses. Drove our 1968 bus on a 4200 mile trip from Anchorage, AK to San Diego.
Man. That feeling of success. Gitty. How cool. Glad to see it finally drive again. Congratulations !!!
It's hard to beat the fun and excitement of a successful test drive! I'm happy for you man, and I hope we can do some cruising soon!
congrats from Greece as well
The first car I bought for myself was Dove Blue 1962 Standard Bus. I paid $475 and traded my 10 speed bike to a hippie who thought the bus meant he owned too much! Many an adventure would follow as I learned how to keep it fixed and running thanks to John Muir. I rolled it a couple of years later and I still got $425 for it even with the crumpled roof and body damage. It was not yet rusty, but I can’t imagine that it still survives
Merry Christmas CT, great progress my man. Hope you and yours are well and staying safe. Keep up the good work. Guy from OZ.
all your hard work...txs for sharing
OMG, 20 long jumper cables. I didn't know they made them that long. Pretty cool and useful actually.
I'll give some advice - which feel free to ignore 100%
Recheck the torque of your nuts and bolts, and readjust the brakes now that things have moved and started to settle in. Once you've got her properly together, recheck after say 500 miles as you are in effect, running it in like a new motor again
Nice to see someone so happy :)
Well, holy hell CT you did it ! And no parts fell off ! Congratulations, good job !!
What a survivor little European van, by the way nice neighborhood.
wow i can't believe it in over 40 years the car is running again and the engine is nice good runing condition absolutely amazing wow
😁
Here in Brazil this car is called VW little owl Kombi. We just love it!!! Good job, BTW.
CT, i am so happy to see you so so lucky with Rosty......you makes a super jop and have really fun .....more videos please, i am waiting every week for looking you video....thank you so much CT for all your picture👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯👌🤗
CT, I love the feeling of getting these rigs back on the road. I hear a similar giddy in your voice. Ive had the same one before. Merry Christmas!
Congratulations!
Loved it.
Laughed when the door opened, then self closed. My old 58 would pop its door now and then too.
Wonderful! I would have driven out the 5 gallons of gas just circling the block all day. Gives me inspiration to keep plugging away at my bus.
She really looks good on the road!
I think you should also thanks us viewers who have been patient and waited those 2 yrs before we saw Rusty rolling for own machine.
Thank you! =) It's been a long road but we are getting closer! Thanks for all the support my friend!
That's awesome, congrats!
Great job, sir!
Congratulations, sir
Thats Awesome. I never myself Messed with the VW's But this one looks like it's worth fixing all the way for sure. Enjoy your ride...
once you mess with your first bus, you wont stop.
I don't own my own property I rent so I had a landlord wait several years ago till I went to work and he towed all my vehicles crushing my dream's with it. I haven't had a hobby since than.
Glad there's no HOA in your street lol 😄
congratulations CT! You've done a great job! Gets so inspired ... 👍💪💪😀
What fun to share that with you today. A sign of good things to come. Thank you and congratulations.
When you change to windscreens give that boy some safaris.
😍😍😍 It's amazing 👌👌 waiting for that moment for so long😁😁 love to see how you enjoy it!!!
Thank you!!! 😀
1st drive and on film too!!! wish I recorded my 1st drive!
Wish I could show you my son's rusty 66 so42 conversion. It's running on Porsche 944 rims, brakes and IRS with an lowered narrowed front beam and full booster powered dual circuit brakes. Rusty and crusty but looks awesome. Good job you saved another.
É impressionante como uma Kombi velha pode trazer tanta alegria ..vamos ver o próximo passo.
En Usa se consiguen todos los repuestos originales de ésos modelos viejos. Envidia sana de los gringos.
Son cracks.
much awaited moment...FINALLY... it's running,..well, i guess its just the begining ... still a long way to go....
Bonjour. Je suis heureux comme vous d entendre ce moteur enfin tourner ! J ai plein de souvenirs de vacances avec mes parents France Espagne Portugal Allemagne suisse Italie yougoslavie. Ne lâchez rien bonne continuation. Merci
A fully restored car with a simplicity like that would be excellent for a round-the-world trip.
THAT one can be repaired everywhere.
That's amazing! Great job! Another piece of history on the road again.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Merry Christmas what a Christmas blessing CT
That was awesome! Merry Christmas
Good that you saved the T1 and drive it. My father had a T2 camper. They excelerate good in 1st and 2nd. Push the black button when you pull the emergency brake handle: it saves you the teeth and maybe later the replacing work. Thats what my late father tought me once.
Awesome!!!!, way to go man
SUCCESS of phase 1! Now to get it out to the farm for the next phase! Remarkable what you have done in your home garage! One suggestion: make sure you have a good, heavy ground to your engine. Especially important on a 6 volt system, as your amp draw will be twice what it would be on a 12 volt system. I would suggest conversion to 12 volts when practical. 6 volt stuff is getting pretty expensive and hard to find. Your 6 volt starter should be fine, and a later generator or alternator conversion will be the main expenses, and a 12 volt gas gauge, and sender maybe.

Big like & merry Christmas
Dude!!! You are having way too much fun!
Che emozione risentire quel suono del motore dopo tanti anni , complimenti sei un grande ! vorrei essere li con te a goderti questo momento ! Grazieeeee!!!!!!!
Another great Christmas present for us! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
I’m smiling watching this!

That engine definitely runs great. I noticed the speedometer works also!
🎼The wheels on the bus go round and round
Round and round
