My timeline just serves this wonderful video up for me. I love the look of the Akto, though just about to use my new Abisko Lite 1 with Linkeys360 in his Akto. Amazing how the wonderful Akto has remained so hugely relevant for so long.
Don’t know how I’ve missed your channel pal. You randomly popped up on my recommended viewing! Been watching a few videos now and love your style. Brilliant channel. Keep up the cracking work and all the best.
Came across this by accident and so pleased I did, really enjoyed this, so just subscribed. I did my first wildcamp last month at Angle Tarn and really enjoyed the experience and testing myself at 62. The bivi looked brilliant and I am looking at getting one for my next wildcamp, as I am a fairweather camper, so should be ideal for me. I take it you parked at Hartsop, which is where I parked when I hiked up High Street about 10 weeks ago. Thanks for sharing you wildcamp, I think I am really going to enjoy your channel. Cheers Alan
Paul, brilliant vid. Thank you :) I hear this cold at night "thing" from so many UA-camrs. I cannot recommend / emphasise enough: "British Army Softies" - jacket & trousers. In the middle of winter, I use a summer sleeping bag supplemented with both the Army "softie" jacket & trousers. Instantly turns a summer bag into a winter bag !! About £20ish on Ebay. Also brilliant as an extra jacket for walking. I promise you will never be cold again. All the best Alan
The tent is a lovely colour. Perfect for where you were. I'm sure I wouldn't have trusted the bivi at that temperature, you were right to be cautious. Take care phil
+wildphil64 thanks for watching again Phil. I am so glad I opted for that colour. It's perfect for the places I go. At least I know now what I can get out of the Bivi. I will be experimenting more in upcoming camps. ATB Paul
No you made a good choice not getting the red one it stands out to much only good if your out in snowy mountains and want to be seen incase you need rescuing the green blends in
Hi Paul.. TFS.. enjoyed this one.. as you said all seasons in 48 hours.. the snow footage was brill.. tent looks good.. glad you are happy with it :) think I would have just got in my sleeping bag..lol.. ATB.. R&D :) :)
garn fora ratch thank you. Extremely pleased with the tent so thanks again for the advice. I'm not one for throwing the towel in 😀 so I wasn't going to the bottom of the rucksack unless I really needed to. ATB Paul
Hi Paul finally got round to watching it and a very nice overnighter I really enjoyed it. I was up easdale tarn on the Thurs/ good Friday and the weather was very hit and miss then. Cheers for sharing Mate hope you're well ATB Steve
+Outdoors Lifestyle thanks for taking the time to watch again Steve. Glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty more trips to come this year. I'm planning on heading north of the border this summer along with other trips around the UK. Hoping to push myself a little with the hiking and climbing. ATB Paul
Another stunning location for a camp mate. Thanks for the shout out. Glad you've managed to get your audio sorted. It sounded Spot on. Looking forward to seeing the next adventure. Cheers.
Cold weekend, we did not have any snow up at Malham Tarn over the bank holiday but it was sodding freezing with the wind and we had hail as well. Glad to see you survived the snow, interesting to hear your thoughts on the Sol bivvi bag, just goes to show you cannot take the temperature ratings as face value
+Yorkie263 glad you enjoyed Malham. I was up there last year and loved it. The manufacturer don't claim temperatures that low to be fair... I was going of what some of the guys in the USA stated. It did the job although several layers were needed. Cheers
Paul. Love your reviews especially the not so stealthy Decathlon job🤣🤣.In your opinion which tents got the most room? Akto or Soulo? I've seen the stats but as you've got both.. enlighten me buddy👍. I've got the soulo already(red) the Akto now seems a good prospect, practically ... all the best buddy👍🤘🥾🥾
The Soulo has definitely more space inside, but the trunk of the akto is a bit larger on the opposite! Soulo has a more comfortable inside high as well, and is MUCH MUCH MORE stable in very high winds ( Orkans) and it packs smaller also, cause the akto has this two small carbonfiber poles on each side ( head and foot end), what prevents from stuffing the akto to tightly! I was one of the first customer in germany who bought the Soulo in 2008, when it was coming into the market......bought it since that date 3times, cause I like to flip my equipment for each large trek, but couldn't fine anything better over the Soulo in all this years. If the bigger weight of the Soulo is no deal breaker for you, go for the Soulo. In deep Winter Conditions, with a much more fluffy sleepingbag and clothing, I prefere the Jannu over the Soulo and if area for setting up the tent is not squeezing or difficult for stacking out properly , the Nammatj 2 is a very good alternative over the Jannu as well. To reduce the weight, look out for a set of realy high quali Carbonfiber Poles and Carbonfiber stacks, combined with ab2nd set of titanium nails for rock hard grounds. Will save you around 1 lbs. of weight.in total.....but increase the total price of the tent quit badly as well......but then you'll have a real killer combination!
In its defense it did a good job considering the temperature. I feel just as cold in my snugpak at 0 degrees. It's definitely a lifesaver but for comfort I do think the temperature needs to be 7 or 8 degrees. I will be using again to experiment. Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed watching your vid, very nicely put together. I do like your relaxed style. Thanks for sharing, look forward to seeing more vids from you. ATB.
+Dead Fall Bushcraft hey Karl. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope your new gear is serving you well. I've just picked up a lowe alpine pack that's a bit bigger for winter camps. You may have seen it on the video I released this week. Thanks for watching.
Nice video Paul, glad you made it to the top, looked bloody lovely in the snow. I do wonder though, with all that whimpering about 'T cold, are you sure yer not one of they Soft Southern types? :-)
I'll take that as a compliment Steve haha. I was actually born in Hammersmith so there's a bit of softie in me. Still trying to prove I'm a bit of a Northerner. But not sure Sheffield way qualifies. ATB Paul
Wow thank you kindly for this marvelous video! I have a question, as someone who lives outside of UK (on the other side of the globe 😜) who plans on making a trip here, what's the BEST/EFFECTIVE way of coming to this district? Like which city do I need to travel to first, and then how to I transport myself down here? This may sound like a stupid question I apologise, but I'm just trying to see in my mind now as I plan how I can make it possible as a solo traveler very new to all this ;) Much appreciation for your videos and time✌
Hello. thank you for watching my videos from overseas. The Lake District is beautiful and I'm sure you'll love it. I'm not an expert on the best way to travel here by air but The Lake District is served by a number of airports however Manchester is the most convenient airport to fly into for quick access the Lakes. There is a train service from Manchester airport along theWest Coast Main line to Oxenholme, Penrith and Carlisle. Hope this helps a little. Best wishes
Enjoyed your video, it's interesting to find out about new kit which you test out. I went on a wild camp to Blea water just last weekend. We had better conditions than you, I've never fancied winter camping. Good quality footage too, what editing software do you use?
Hi Paul, how by in the hell did you get an akto to look so good. I’ve got one and it looks like a student when I pitch it. My soulo always looks great unless the pitch isn’t big enough. You look about 12 without the beard 😂.
Eyup Paul hope you're well, came across this old video. Have you still got the Akto? Think you prefer a free stander (soulo), I think you and Beavo should get some commission from Hille for probably the best UK advertising campaign they've ever had 😉😂. Keep on keepin on mate. Take care
8:25 was what I was doing before it exploded everywhere and rendered the bag useless. Replaced it with a 2L third party one. Anyone with a sawer be aware!
+Joel Whitehead big fan of Paramo Joel. I have one jacket and a smock. I prefer the zip on the front so tend to use the jacket most. Even when it does wet out eventually, you remain very warm. Best waterproof I've ever owned.

+Woodland Camp and Craft autoplay can take over your life Kev 😁. I can lose hours. The escape bivi is a great piece of kit. I've used is few times now including the GNBC at Edale. It's not the roomiest though I need to lose a few pounds to be able to move about a lot. But it does the job for me. ATB Paul
Hello Paul, love your videos. What's your thoughts on the Akto? I'm considering 3 tents, the Akto, the Cloud Peak, or the Lanshan 2, how would you compare the Akto vs the Cloud Peak? I will be using Tent in 4 seasons.

Hi Paul, great channel, I've just subscribed. Can I ask how you find the condensation in the Akto? I'm trying to decide whether to get an Akto or Soulo. Thanks, Louis
You get condensation in both as in all tents. I just try and manage it with ventilation, a sponge and limit cooking in the vestibule. I don't have an issue with it really. Thanks for watching mate and taking time to comment. Something a little different in my new video if you're interested. A bit of woodland camping. ua-cam.com/video/cFkKjNkJmLQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching. I had the down bag in my pack for emergency but I wanted to test the limits of the Sol bivvy. It did what it's meant to but definitely wasn't a comfortable night. Best wishes
Hi Pen man. Thanks for watching and commenting. I've used the tent in all weather and I would definitely trust it with anything that the UK can throw at it. It's incredibly well made and tough. It is however expensive. I do recommend the Akto but not at the full £500 plus price tag. I would recommend buying a used one. They go for 300 to 350 and most are in mint condition. A much better deal. The Akto does have condensation issues but most tents do in certain conditions. This can be controlled with good venting and a wipe before packing away. 👍
Hi Paul, this looked like an amazing trip. I am planning to do something similiar this august. Can i ask, do you need permission to wild camp or is it fine to set up in these remote areas? Thank a tonne if you could give me any info! cheers pal

Such amazing areas over there. We are mainly treed or steep. Not too many rolling grassy hills. I hope to get over and experience that some day.
Great video. Always nice to see the homeland. Thanks for posting.

Great vid, ive had my Akto since 1998 and still as good as new, you will will have many years of camping, wish i had got a red one too.

Hi Paul another great video great tent I would have got into the bag you looked like the Michelin man trying to keep warm.
I just wanted to test to the extreme. I won't do that again however. haha
You make some great videos Paul . Lots of respect !
Enjoyed that, having all seasons in one trip is a good test for you and your kit. Great views!

Really nice video fella.. I will be checking out your others. Cheers Kev.
Thank you Kev. Glad you enjoyed the video. Please sub to see more videos coming up.
Another good video .
For Extra warmth could you not have a Hot water bottle.
8:25 was what I was doing before it exploded everywhere and rendered the bag useless. Replaced it with a 2L third party one. Anyone with a sawer be aware!
Great film paul, good to see a fellow paramo wearer, you needed it judging by the weather
+Joel Whitehead big fan of Paramo Joel. I have one jacket and a smock. I prefer the zip on the front so tend to use the jacket most. Even when it does wet out eventually, you remain very warm. Best waterproof I've ever owned.
I own 3 waterproof jackets and 2 windproof, plus cascada trousers oh and a fleece, you could say I love the stuff brilliant clothing
+Joel Whitehead the trousers are next on my wish list. Are they overly warm? I like to be a little cooler on my legs when walking
Great in the winter/cooler weather, I'll admit they are warm on a wet summers day, they do have a good venting system running down the sides of each leg with a storm flap to keep wind and rain out.i highly recommend them.paramo have brought out a lighter version which I shall look into,
+Joel Whitehead the lighter version is probably the route I would personally take. If you add to your collection you'll have to keep me posted about how they are.
Thinking about getting this tent for Dartmoor I like it in the sand colour. Would you say it is worth the money. Cheers karl
another great one dude! this auto played after the last vid of yours i watched! and glad it did! house works not getting done though haha! final thoughts on the escape bivi? worth sticking one in lillys kit? feelinf inspired to get in the hills! atb dude kev
+Woodland Camp and Craft autoplay can take over your life Kev 😁. I can lose hours. The escape bivi is a great piece of kit. I've used is few times now including the GNBC at Edale. It weighs nothing and keeps you warm. With good layers I got down to freezing. I take mine on every trip now just in case. It's not the roomiest though I need to lose a few pounds to be able to move about a lot. But it does the job for me. ATB Paul
cheers brother, if you struggled then i will haha, but be great for lilly!
+Woodland Camp and Craft perfect for Lily 👍
Hi. Paul I been back too the future,Paul you meet a woman she beautiful and you married her ,good see you in 2022 😂😂
Nice video.what did you film this on?
cracking video mate , like the look of the akto and it seems to perform well atb Dave
Thanks Dave. It's a great little tent. Glad you enjoyed the video. Best wishes Paul
It’s a great tent Dave, you should buy 2 and sell them both 😊😊
Did you sell this tent,? if so im curious to why?
Hello Paul, love your videos. What's your thoughts on the Akto? I'm considering 3 tents, the Akto, the Cloud Peak, or the Lanshan 2, how would you compare the Akto vs the Cloud Peak? I will be using Tent in 4 seasons.
The akto is far superior but it's also most expensive .Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
the sand akto is nice i have green one there good tents atb bryan
I love my Akto. I agree... Great bit of kit. Best wishes. Paul
PAUL can I ask please what you film with? Great video, very well presented too.
I use gopro hero 7 now
2:00 ''I'm not 100% sure but I think that's Blea Water down there in the valley''.
That's actually Haweswater, Paul. You were standing at the head of Riggindale :-)
You are 100% correct. I realised when I'd checked the map properly shortly afterwards. Too late then though as I'd already filmed it. Thanks for watching
You make good videos Paul. What camera do you use as I notice you don't get that dreaded wind noise on the sound when you're standing in a gale?
+Richard Foster glad you like the videos Richard. This video was all filmed with the gopro hero 5. The sound for 95 percent was recorded with a zoom h1 with a lavalier microphone just under my jacket. It's a bit of a faff syncing it up in Premier pro but worth it I think.
Liked & Subbed. Cheers. 👍🏼
No sleeping bag was a bad idea eh? You looked v cold & you didnt sleep a wink. Top video though
Thanks for watching. I had the down bag in my pack for emergency but I wanted to test the limits of the Sol bivvy. It did what it's meant to but definitely wasn't a comfortable night. Best wishes
Палатка зачётная. У меня похожая. Другими словами Good!
too many ads mate, is that you or youtube? otherwise nice work.
UA-camrs choose how to monetise their videos
How do you find the Akto Paul? I have an old Terra Nova Laser Comp that will need replacing at some point. Would you recommend the Akto?
Thanks Paul, that’s really helpful. I saw a used one advertised on a forum recently for £400 with footprint. Cheers for your advice, Simon.
Do you still use your akto Paul?
Hi Paul, this looked like an amazing trip. I am planning to do something similiar this august. Can i ask, do you need permission to wild camp or is it fine to set up in these remote areas? Thank a tonne if you could give me any info! cheers pal
It's not technically legal but it's accepted in certain parts of England. The lake district and Peak District are ok if you are higher up and away from footpaths 👍
Fantastic, i was thinking the same. Leave it as you found it, and be discreet. Thanks a lot mate, look forward to upcoming videos!
Paul has produced a video on wild camping in England.
