Hi Andrew I just bought one of the new cone stoves on your recommendation, pity you don't get a kick back on it , I've been using jet boil for many years, never used alcohol stoves but looks good and I'm looking to cut down weight as well, just getting back into hiking camping after many years All the best, Sarah
Thanks for sharing. I’ve taken my Notch out for a few low level DofE camps now but will be taking it to Scotland next month for a proper extended trip up Ben Nevis and the Mamores. I can’t wait
That’s light. But then again I’m still fairly new and still trying to figure what I need and what to kick. But then again I bring a saw toothed machete. Small ax. Multiple sources of fire. Multiple ways of water purification. 2 hammocks 2 bug nets. 32 oz kleen kanteen. Nalgene type bottle. Bottle of propane with stove attachment. Usually food for me and son. Food for my dogs. Plus hygiene and extra outfit or 2. My son carries a pack with our fishing tackle. Usually I attach 2-3 rod and reels to my pack. That’s not even including headlamps, or blankets or rain gear. I’m sure I didn’t list quite a bit as well.
Brilliant i really like all the very detailed explanation of exactly what you are using I started doing stuff like this on youtube 15 years ago before youtube really got commercial etc just looking at making some new videos , really like your channel spot on its boss
with British summers more autumn at the moment never know what to carry. Just about to finnish the Limestone way and pack weighs a ton in July. Another great video mate keep it up.
Looking at the atompacks mo looks good. I’ve just got a budget roll top pack by Naturehike which been impressed with but the atompacks is lighter. I like the fact it has 2 pounces on front straps for water bottles.
I do love a summer pack!!... feels like carrying a small car on our back for most of the year!. Then boom!!! summer's in full bloom!. Though for the trade off of carrying such a light pack, we are burdened with flying, biting , beasties....Take care out there.
Great tips thanks Andy 👍 my last kit pack out was my 50L Atom Mo and it weighed around 11kg!! I’m going to ditch the dry-bags and try your layering system for this weekend and see how much space I can save 🤓
Nice to see the load out, I am always working at it lol It’s a shame the planes have to fly over a great spot , very lucky up in the Cheviots it’s silent Keep up the good work Cheers
Cracking video that Andy! Lots of info and tips 👍 It would be nice if you could do the same for your winter gear when that time of year comes round again? Would also like to thank you for putting me on to Contact coffee through one of your previous videos. A great brew, always get the "red on" , I love a strong coffee, funnily enough was having one while watching this 😀
ill definitely be doing a winter load out as its another system i do get a lot of comment & questions about..as for the contact coffee its all i use now & its great tasting coffee.
How are you getting on with that tent , I just checked it out it looks impressive and only 16oz I currently have a terra nova laser competition I must have had for 15 years or more and it's still all good , I do like the look of that Durston though , have you done a video on it ? I'll have a look
the bag dave is the 180 they do a 360 too which is a bit warmer rated..i onlu use the 180 when the warmer nights are forecast certainly above zero..although on the whw we got temps of -3 overnight & though wearing the down jacket in bed i was quite comfortable.
Great video, Andy. One question: why do you have a stuff sack for camp clothes rather than keeping it in the foot of your sleeping bag? Thanks for uploading. 👍
its something ive never thought of tbh i do use the packing cell with my jacket in as an xtra pillow too but i may have a go at stuffing the clothes in the bag..always learning 😉
Alright Andy. Great video. Noticed no waterproof jacket or bottoms, obviously u checked weather and wasn’t forecast for rain, but as Lake District weather goes, it can change in the blink of an eye. I’ve never took the plunge just to leave them at home and rely on the forecast. I know your walking kit will be quick drying and have a dwr so will withstand light showers. What’s your opinion.
i do take weather forecasts into consideration & the three i rely on if forecasting no rain i do tend to take a chance..also knowing kinder as i do i can sort of predict what the conditions are gonna be like so as i say i do tend to take that risk..there's not many times off the top of my head ive been caught out if theres any chance percentage wise id take the jacket of course..
Hi Andy, whats the fit like on the Senchi Designs Alpha 90 hoody half zip? theres a bit of conflicting information suggesting theyre a snug fit, whats your experiences?
Good stuff Andy. I'm with you on not using numerous stuff sacks, as long as you can keep your important kit dry. However I do like to know exactly how much fuel I need for a brew etc. I sometimes head out with just 20ml ;-)
Thanks Andrew. I'm always fascinated by what others take. I never get my gear down to what you seem to manage. I didn't hear you mention waterproofs or any navigation stuff - map, compass etc. Was this because of the weather forecast and because you were in a very familiar area? I don't think I've ever risked a backpack without those whatever the forecast and however well I know the area. I'm possibly over cautious. Thanks again. Lots of food for thought.
forecast wise i do check three forecasts & take a chance if all three are looking good..if there a percentage wise chance then of course id take the waterproofs..nav wise for kinder ive been exploring that place since i was at school so im pretty confident in my own sense of awareness & familiarity whilst up there even in challenging conditions..
Hi Andrew great video. I’m heading up to the Peak District end of the month for first wild camp. Do you have any recommendations for a good area where you’re unlikely to be loved on? Was thinking Fairbrook Naze?
firstly its highly unlikely you'll get moved on up on kinder its not agricultural land or a grouse driven managed area so you'll be fine there.. if it's you're first time up there id stick to the southern edge maybe around woolpacks or grindslow knoll & then if you need a quick get off it's a pretty simple route off.
hi phil the vx35 is no longer available it was a limited edition pack with a limited amount made..nearest to it is the atom which can be either 30,35 or 40 litre & has customisable options..
Great load out Andy 👌 I get far too excited when i see decent kit lists these days than i do when i see pictures of naked ladies....I can't decide if its an age thing or if its a Kit thing 🤔All i know for certain is that its a very expensive thing 🙄.
Good that, man after my own heart, don't measure the fuel, don't weigh (too much) and relaxed. If I hadn't got that 40l zerk think I'd a got a Mo of similar size. Keep on keeping on 👍 al sithi 😉
cheers david ayy i dont really ever weigh the pack i take what i need for a comfortable & enjoyable camp..just for the sakes of these type of videos ill weight the pack..
I think 6kg is a good weight I think once you start going under that you you lose that bit of comfort or or things you need in an emergency.i ways carry waterproofs as well and a map and compass also I have a little dab radio and gsi mug I weighed it the other day 6.8kg that's with food no water.
yeah ive never got below that sort of weight & wouldnt want to really..its a happy medium where i can still be comfortable warm & it be an enjoyable camp rather than enduring it a s some seem to do,that & i like my sleep too lol..
Having trouble posting this comment as the filter thinks it's spam/fishing. You'll just have to find the blog with the step by step instructions yourself... in which it advises that as the Pro version ships direct from Canada and not the US, our trade agreement with them means tents are not subject to duty and you can claim it back if it was charged. He got £72 back on his 2p Pro.

Hi Andrew, tha could save some brass by putting some thought in to your food. Those bought meals are getting silly - How Much!!!!! Have a look at Huel hot and savoury, and Protein Works. You need to use twice the amount they say but it still works out at just over four pounds per meal. Cracking films - I'll sithee 👍
Thanks for the tip. Just checking out the Huel ones, they look decent enough to try. Per calorie they work out the same though as the Huel ones are only 400kcal each
I’ve used Huel H&S with a packet of microwave rice. Boil water to hydrate the Huel and then boil more water to heat the rice through. You have to put the rice directly in the water as the pack doesn’t let heat through quickly. Its 800 calories for the Huel and the rice
haha first thing to do is when out on a camp & you get back look at what you didnt use or what you used minimally & decide if you can do without it..youll be surprised what you can leave at home.
Good that someone started making a stove like Stormin Norman made. I did a diy version. It saved the day on an early Spring hike.
Layering system the way forward suprising how much space it saves top tip andy brilliant video pal 👍

I've been using your "layer" system of packing the last few camps, works really well so thanks for that. Impressive kit loadout.
good to hear its a system ive used for a while now & works well for me..
You have to be the most down to earth youtuber I follow and I follow a few no phaff simplistic way ahead of other's so I keep coming back 👏👏👏👏
