    Thanks for the honest and thorougher review. It is time for me to update my Taurus ring saw, it has served my faithfully for 7 years, I have used it consistently practically every week and have never had “Chunks of glass” get inside the blade housing and or break anything! And I can tell you that I put my Taurus through it’s paces. Based on your review and the fact that the Zephyr stoped working (luckily didn’t break the blade or cogs) on its first use I for one will NOT be purchasing one! I’ll stick with a brand that I can trust. Considering you received a free ring saw from Gryphon you could have easily edited the video and we would be none the wiser however you didn’t, your integrity as a reviewer is second to none. Great to see someone giving honest and unbiased reviews on UA-cam. Thank you 🙏🏻

    So I watched your video where you unpackaged the first ring saw. I found myself coming back to you because I also had that issue with the loud noise. You absolutely told me exactly what I needed to do so I cleaned it out put freshwater in. I opened it up and after trying and trying to do righty tidy lefty, Lucy, I realize the screws work in the opposite direction! Ha ha! Thank you thank you for your authentic open self and for all the beautiful information that you’ve given me so far. This is my very first ring saw. I have used the Taurus ring saw. This ring saw by far is more comfortable to use.

    I love my Gryphon-- and, at least at the time I bought mine, it cost a bit less than the Taurus, despite having the extra ring blade. I also noted that the cutting clearance both up and down and back to front was bigger than the Taurus, allowing for more maneuverability of the glass. I found mine splashed more than yours was doing, which was easily fixed by slightly tilting the whole thing back, resting the front edge on a couple of pencils-- then the water was still there for cooling the blade and catching the glass dust. I also got a step on/step off foot switch from Harbor Freight, which makes it easier to stop if you are in the middle of a cut and need to for any reason. Just like using a sewing machine. I've also found mine useful if you want a continuous piece of glass for a background and you don't want to risk a bad cut, losing the continuity of the glass if it is streaky, or has a pattern. I also use it for glass that is misbehaving and cutting badly, since I don't want to waste glass if I can avoid it.
    Also, about the motor noise: I find it calms me to wear earplugs while using the saw. I also put on a full plastic face shield "just in case", as I am very "gun-shy" about the possibility of the blade breaking, which has never happened to me (yet).

    I have a Taurus band saw and have been waiting for you to make this video. I watched your unboxing. Currently my band saw is resting because the ring is not moving. After watching your video today I am looking for a stray piece of glas to be the reason mine is idle. I have been pleased with my band saw for over ten years but after watching the speed of the Zephyr I am considering adding it to my tool supply. Your videos are extremely informative and after doing stained glass for over 30 years I still learn new techniques from watching your video.

    I had a second hand Taurus for years until it died. I loved the results, but it was not easy to use and the ring saw blade ‘jumped’ off its track quite often, without there seeming to be a good reason. Thank you Makenzie for your thorough review. I love the look of the Gryphon, and am very impressed with what you have shown of its performance. Definitely on my wish list too. Ann x

      I would agree with that assessment of the Taurus. It took awhile for it to do it to me, but I never really put it to hard use before that. I do think it's a good machine. I just think the zephyr has those extra elements taking it up a notch.

I can absolutely include some real time footage in my next video with the zephyr. I apologize!! Oh and no. So any side you cut with a ring saw does not necessarily need to be ground. However 9 times out of ten I'm taking it to a grinder to just perfect the stencil line.

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  3 роки тому

      My pleasure. Ok so essentially "cold glass" is for stained glass only. Cold glass is final form, if you will. Fusible can be used for those folks who fuse glass as well as used for normal cutting up stained glass. So it's a combo. Fusible will also be more expensive because it has "two functions". Everything else is all preference. Personal preference or project preference. Color, texture, thickness is all totally up to you and up to your specific project. I will use cold glass and fusible, it's whatever catches my eye. If you wanted to fuse glass, (melt it to make jewelry, or *fused* glass panels) you would have to use fusible. Hope this helps! And don't be afraid to just Google those key words. There is alot of written info out there and there will always be some much smarter then me information!! Lol!

      Ok so I haven't ever needed to try it but ALOT of people comment about it. I've seen chapstick, Vaseline, doing the sharpie the day before, but I haven't tried any. So I just can't confirm. I would imagine chapstick or any oil based product would help repell surface water!

      @@duckiemace Try a little less water. Again, empty the reservoir and then activate the saw while empty. Add water incrementally until the water just starts to flow then stop adding. The vaseline technique works really well too and wont hurt the saw.

    Love your glass videos. I saw your demo video of the Gemini Taurus ring saw and was so excited I ordered one for myself. Now I know I should have done some comparison shopping but I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Even after seeing this demo I’m still super happy with the Gemini. I don’t have problems with too much water or the speed or how it’s made. Even my hubby thinks it’s awesome and he’s a diyer and owns ever other tool out there. I am jealous of the extra blade though. The reason for my comment is to tell people to compare machines and get what works for them. Maybe you could do a side by side actual time comparison video with sound so people can really see the performance difference. Just a suggestion. I appreciate your detailed videos. Have a great day!

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  3 роки тому +1

      Quite literally ZERO water. The entire time. I would have updated saying there was water spray, cuz that drives me absolutely batty about the Taurus. So messy. The only time water hit the table was after I took the grid off or something like that. No direct spray from the blade. And talking to Gryphon, they said we can also run it dry as long as we want to slowly add water to our desired flow, as long as we don't grind it dry. So that's pretty cool too. I think overall I would sum it up as cleaner, more powerful, more options, more extra parts, just as loud as any grinder, easier to use.

      Matt is great. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw your comment! BUT I will say, they are both great machines. You need to objectively look at the pros/cons of both and see which suits you and your wallet best. I am confident in both machines. I would personally pick zephyr. I keep leaning towards the gryphon due to the bigger size, cheaper parts and faster delivery.... but maybe cheaper isn't always better! UGH! lol

      I would say that's comparing apples to oranges. They both are made to do completely different things! Both great tools if you have the $! Cutters mate is for normal glass cutting.
