Excellent advice, given these are expensive items for most of us. I’m sure your video will be helpful to so many. Your comparison criteria were excellent choices too. As a former owner of one of these I decided to sell it for reasons not covered here though. So I wondered if your opinion on my issues would also be helpful to others? For example, I found the clearance to put material to the blades was CRITICAL if you were trying to cut things like a mug for instance - so though I had no problem with cutting flat glass then bigger items caused an issue. Of course, the way round that, would be to use the ring saw as hand held - so not with the table and water reservoir in place. But I found mine was far too heavy to hold and make any steady accurate cuts. Frankly, my Dremel was easier and lighter to use …,but that brings me to my last issue. So many newbies rush to buy such machines and yet I realised I’d been rash to do exactly the same thing. You see, I only do mosaics for a hobby and i don’t do exclusively glass - so I’d say while commercial mosaicists and teachers - yes - would find purchase of such machines very useful indeed - I think others might base a vital purchasing decision on the amount of use they expect to give it because the cost might not justify it to a hobby person, while it will to somebody running a mosaic business. (And in Australia it is close to end of tax year so they can offset its purchase price 😜) your thoughts, as always Peter, are very welcome.

Thanks so much Wendy and I totally agree with your statement. I think if I was cutting cups I would just purchase a cheap wet saw, easier and cheaper. The height clearance would definitely be an issue on a ring saw for cutting cups, not only that the spare parts will be considerably more for the ring saws. It is an investment and the purchaser would want to make sure its going to be used, my one has come in handy however it hasn't been used a lot, some artists do use there's on a almost daily basis. The times I have used it has been very handy however its a lot of money sitting there not being used. Thanks for the comment and also for watching. :)

I really enjoy using my Taurus 3 ring Wet Saw. I could make projects all day with it. Thank you for explaining about them. Your videos are so helpful to me. I have watched your videos for years now. Also, thank you for using a picture of my Flow Blue pendant necklaces in your video. That was nice of you, and it made me very happy. I made a garden gazing ball from one of your videos on "How To Make a Gazing Ball." Please keep making more videos.

My Taurus 3 ringsaw has caused me more headache than joy. Changing the blades requires patience and a third hand is helpful. I had to replace the drive belt after a short period of use because the blade kept popping off track. Then the plastic housing deformed and started spewing water from the back which made cleanup a pain, and today the motor burned out...4 months after the 3 year warranty expired. Good luck to anyone who buys one, you may need it. That said, it is (was!) helpful for cutting curves and special shapes.

Ohh Ruth thats not good at all, contact the manufacture and see what they have to say perhaps they will be able to help you out in some way. From my understanding most people seem to be very happy with them but I know others who have had issues, they are an investment and not a cheap one, perhaps you had a faulty one. I would definitely be contacting the manufacture and hopefully they can help you. Appreciate your comment. :)

I am not in the market for one right now, but I've heard blades are expensive and need replacing frequently. Are blades universal or do specific models require certain blades and if so, what might price variances be? I know that may be dependant on location but ballpark figure?

The blades and parts are not cheap but it is a specialty item that comes into its own when needed. There are different blades available and they are specific to the brand of ring saw. I would suggest you do a search on the internet to find out the price differences in your country and these are likely to change, the Taurus parts are dearer over the Gryphon from what I have seen. Two of the main reasons why the blades fail is people push hard against the blade and don't allow the blade to do the work or/and they just keep water in the reservoir all the times. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
