Good morning Kathy!!! I wish I could have had your help and knowledge to even better explain!! It was so much fun, I cant wait to start really using it now!!
Well I know what I’m asking Santa for this year! I’m a newbie but I’ve been hearing about this ring saw and now to see it in action, holy cow I need it! Absolutely satisfying! Great work!
HOLY COW! What a machine! So I just had to go back to my glass shop today and grab some orange for a project of mine and I just saw this same doohickey! Wowzers, guess I know what to save up for! I'm so lucky to live literally 10 minutes down on the same street from the glass shop(not to brag 😉)! I even drew out my own stencil design, without a reference💪, for this project. I'll be making some items to help raise funds for some glass artists on the west coast that lost their shops and homes. 🙏
Isnt it insane!!! so fun, you'll love it! & That's awesome!!! That's the best way to do it in my opinion! keeps us all unique! Thank you for watching!!
That Taurus Ring Saw is wicked crazy... That saw will make cutting those tight curves & angles a piece of cake... I definitely have to get me one of them...! I too could feel your excitement watching that blade go through that glass... Just an amazing invention...! Amazon has them for $394.00 and the blades for $26.00 bucks... Thanks for the awesome demo...!!!
You are so gifted. Beautiful crystal balls and very helpful stencil tutorial. I live on the Cape and aside from Hobby Lobby (UGH), there is no place closed for supplies. I like your mixed media demos. TY
Thank you so much Annie! Definitely sounds like you'll have to make a trip closer out my way to get a good glass shop. Even though my fav is an hour away, I would drive 5 hours to get to her if I had to!! Its worth the trip if you can make a little vaca of it!
.Have the taurus 3 setup in my work area. Really great unit. It just consumes glass. when working a design, it's great to just be able to step over to the ring saw to cut glass. The blade it comes with really cuts glass fast....Although it produces rough edges. I end up cleaning the edges with the 1/4 diamond cutter.
Just found your channel, great video. I have been doing stained glass for 3 years now and have seen this saw but never in action. This is such a cool tool and really opens up endless design possibilities.

This is a great video. I'm not familiar with the ring saw at all and have been making stained glass for a very long time. You explain everything so well. Very informative. Again, great video!
I may have to take you up on the referral to the place where you buy your glass. After all, for me, choosing the glass is what motivates me to create. I like to pick the glass first and then decide how to use it.
Blade is the correct term. Bits are things that have a chunk that fits into a holder and you use the end for things like drilling holes. Saws that use round or loops to cut use blades. In order to fit pieces back together perfectly, just like woodworking with a bandsaw (or quilting for that matter), you simply add the width of the blade to the outside of your template and cut that. Hope that helps.
Been waiting for this video! I bought the same saw and was super intimidated and haven't opened it yet either. You've got me excited!! Thanks for sharing your experience 🍁

Your enthusiasm is infectious! I get excited for you, while watching you. It's easy to see that love what you do. BTW (if you care about terminology) the thickness of the blade + material removed is called the "kerf" of the blade. I love your videos!
Just add water until you see water is coming out at the top of the ring, right above where you’re cutting. Works for me. I’ve had my Torus ring saw for about 15 years.
My current project has many cuts that are inner small radius. I've been using the 1/4 inch grinder bit, but that is a PITA. After watching this, I just ordered one of these puppies.
@Makenzie Hallie, it’s called a band saw because the cutting tool is made in the form of a band (circle) of steel. I figured I would answer your question, I’m not trying to be a smarty pants. Coming from the Electronics Repair Industry, I see the totally enclosed motor as a weakness in this system, which I would have to investigate if there were any option of installing anything to help cool it. Maybe there are other models which offer venting for it. Now, as a total newbie in the stained glass cutting craft, I “just learned” of this method of cutting it. I’ve got a flex shaft motor and Diamond (powder) grinding bit. It’s the addition of a distilled water supply that’s important due to the cloud of silica dust arising from cutting action, to make.

yes you absolutely could!! However that would that would be an absolute nightmare & it's not meant for cutting all your glass! It would put alot of strain on the grinder/blade, very quickly! And for 500 bucks, I'm gunna use this thing like my life relies on never buying another 😂

Amazing video! A question about your glass “mud”. You say not to send it down the regular drain. Where DO you dispose of it? I’m imagining between buckets and grinders etc you’d have a large volume of water with a much smaller amount of the glass mud in it. So I can’t see pouring all that into the garbage. I’m in an apartment now but moving into my new house soon. I could definitely designate a spot in the yard for that as the house is on a lot of land, but I also wouldn’t want my dogs to get into it!!! 😱
So you need to scrape the glass mud out after the water settles, put that into a small plastic bin with a lid and dump the water in the woods as it will have small glass particles in it inevitably! Don't overthink it. Glass mud in a bin, dirty water in the woods.
Unfortunately it's not a grinder replacement. It's a machine to cut out those rare very difficult angles and shapes. Not for everyday, everyday glass piece grinding! But it is amazing for its purpose!
Yes no more with the water line but the instruction book mentioned to fill the pan to halfway of the lowest bearing. As soon as I've done this I put a line on my pan.
Hi McKenzie! I watch your videos all the time. Very informative! Can you tell me where you get your glass? I live in Wisconsin and I can’t find any places around here that sell nice sheets of glass like yours.
I have videos that show where I would look, IF I did shop online. Which I don't unfortunately, all my shopping for glass vids feature my fav shops near me! 🖤
Oh absolutely. You need a grinder before a ring saw. A ring saw is strictly for the cuts you cannot physically make otherwise. Its not meant for everyday, long term running for grinding edges of glass. It takes a chunk with it. It just also clearly happens to grind the edges at the same time. Two totally different machines for two totally different purposes. ♡
Hey Girl - just got the Taurus ring saw and loved your intro vid on how to use it. I'm planning on using it for cutting jewelry out of China plates and I realize that will put more strain on the motor/saws. Just curious how long your's lasted for cutting stained glass...? XO
Hey there! Well that's tough. I have the gryphon zephyr too as well as two blades for each. So I've never really "gone through" a blade. I also use mine as intended for those random rare cuts so it's not a super often occurrence. What I'm getting at is I don't know I'm the best person to answer that yet. Lmfao. But from my experience, the blades hold up for a long time as long as it's takin care of!! Sorry I don't have a better answer lol!!!
Cool tool! Thanks for sharing! I did not see you sand or smooth the edges before you foiled; did you do that behind the scenes or was it not necessary? TIA! Oh, do you have a vid on how you attach a hanging mechanism, i.e. rings?
Not necessary because this machine does grind your edges! And yes I do, on my soldering videos or any of my actual making stained glass videos! Thank you for watching!
Kudos to you! You did an awesome job especially for the first time! What did you use to make the marks stay on the glass ? My marks wash off almost immediately, I have used Chapstick over a marker, white paint pens and even tried Vaseline, only to lose my mark part way thru the cuts !What's your secret>
Like your demo of the saw... Trying to get past the cost output so that I am willing to buy it since I am strictly a hobbies and cannot recoup investment
Thank you - I did ask where to fill it on Facebook. Thought your video was very good. How did you manage to keep the outline of the leaves without it washing off half way through? I use Vaseline. Cheers from Wales
What do you use to draw on your pattern? I use sharpie when using my regular grinder but the amount of water is washing off my pattern before I can get it cut. 😢
I use Sharpie! If you're having issues with the washing away, you can use anything oil based. Even go right over your lines with a spare chapstick you have or Vaseline. But BEWARE, you will absolutely be doing a much more thorough clean getting all those oils completely cleaned off your glass before you foil. But it will absolutely keep your lines put. They also make special products for it, which i will be showing on my channel soon! (All right on amazon. 😉🖤)
What kind of markers are you using to draw you pattern onto the glass. When I am using mine, there is so much water that the marker lines wash off with the water.
I use a sharpie! But I do get this question alot, so I looked into it. Anything oil based will help keep the lines on longer. So a chapstick, Vaseline, etc. I will say it does make for a messy experience, and difficult cleaning. If your ok really going in on cleaning the grease away after, I would say it is worth it if the lines just aren't staying long enough.
Do you have to patina If you use silver back tape and silver solder? I don’t really know how important patina is or the use. Also there are different colors of patina, so do you match the color with the back of the tape?
You dont ever have to patina! Patina is for look only! I like black solder, so I patina alot of my work black! There is also copper patina, bronze, but it's all preference! But yes, if you want to patina or not, it should match the foil if the foil will be visible, for aesthetic reasons!
I’ve been shopping for a grinder, do you think this would act like a replacement for a grinder. Basically, if you could only invest in 1 tool would it be a grinder or the ring saw?
Hey makenzy, I'm thrilled with my ring saw!!! I have a problem and need advice please. I've only used mine a handful of times can't say enough it's a real life changer!!! But I turned it on to use and one of the lil blade stabilizer red grommet gears popped off. I tried to find part to replace on Amazon without luck. Also tried to email the address on saw manual book but no luck there either as it said incorrect email. Can you please help me with where to get this part? Thanks I'm a big fan watching all your videos.
Hello!!! Sorry to hear about your run away grommet! It's the red grommet your looking for correct? Not the screw or anything? Here is a pack of the grommets-www.amazon.com/Taurus-Ii-2-Red-Gear-Grommets/dp/B00HHCSPGA
I must ask how did you manage to foil the maple leaf. I got a Taurus ring saw and I just cut some shapes with zigzags similar to your maple leaf, and I am wondering how I’m going to foil this. 😫
Is there not a water mark line - usually a long thin bump - that shows water depth? Or does it say in the manual exactly how much water to put in? 4 cups, 8 cups?
Great video. I've heard some really negative things about the Taurus 3, ie: needing new blades so often, grommets are plastic and constantly break, etc....Did you do another video addressing any cons or concerns?
Hello! Thank you so much! Honestly no, because I truly feel those people are not using it correctly. If you take care of your machine, use it sparingly as intended and address normal wear and tear on parts then there should be no issues! As I mentioned a few times, this piece is not meant for every day use and I think that's where some people can go wrong! Thank you for watching!!!
I’ve not researched the company that makes this, they may offer a unit designed for heavier usage. If not, you’ve got the dimensions in front of you. Create one using an air cooled motor, metal guide bearings....... But, don’t attempt to make them for others, you’ll get sued for infringement.
oh no, it's not meant to replace anything, as it could never do what hand cutting can! It removes (destroys) full sections of glass, so it would never be a full cutting stained glass substitute! Just a tool for those random hard or otherwise impossible to cut curves! Thank you for watching!
@The May Witch I can totally see that too, but I do not think so! Cutting a crescent moon should be a quick and easy 1 cut with your hand cutter! This machine is meant for cuts you cannot make with a hand cutter. So for example a star, you cannot cut out an inward sharp v shape with a hand tool! Or where the stem on this leaf meets the base of the leaf, those DEEP, sharp curves, impossible for the hand cutter! Then, you would break out the ring saw! It's a rare occasion machine, not intended for everyday or common use! 🖤
@@MakenzieHallie Ooh star shapes, that opens up a lot of possibilities! I'm such a newbie with cutting glass, curved shapes make me sweat lol. Just have to practice more!
Exactly! Practice makes practically perfect! And I'll actually be filming a video tomorrow on how I cut curves with no nippers! Once you get the feeling of it, you'll be doing it with your eyes closed! lol! Maybe just metaphorically of course. 🖤
I use a sharpie, and it's always worked, no issues for me! If your having trouble keeping the ink on, i tried chapstick and it absolutely helps but is messy to clean off. Many people have asked what I use, idk if my sharpies are just bullet proof or what lol, but If you want to see me testing it out, I did it in my coffin sign video. I have also heard anything oil based will work like Vaseline, etc. But I haven't tested them out so can't say for sure. Again the chapstick worked, but isn't worth the hassle of cleaning it off good enough to have a safe and strong foil application. I'd say a clean surface with a good sharpie should work just fine!
@@MakenzieHallie I realize that I did not add the little red stickers to the saw. Maybe they will cut the water from the work piece. Thanks again, Sherm
🤞🤞 no matter what some of the stencil will wash away. Just try and work quick, and use chapstick for the more intricate cut. I hope those stickers help!!!
No I get asked all the time! Totally aware how insane my nails are so I get the questions for sure! I used to get them on the grinder frequently when I first started glass, but now I use them to my advantage! Of coarse shit still happens on the rare occasion, but I'm lucky I do my own nails! Just fix it right away! Thanm you and thank you for watching!!
Yes, absolutely still need that basic grinder. This is for the rare occasion very difficult, or no break pattern. Meant to simply cut out hard angles, not grind. It just so happens to do it by grinding, if that makes sense!
Hi - none of the new models have the water mark - bit frustrating but two fingers deep seemed to work for me x (loving your video by the way )
oh jeez!! How come?! and the manufacturer said its roughly one gallon or half way up the blue pulley, so at least it's easy enough to still identify!
@@MakenzieHallie no idea but defo read it somewhere - seems a bit nuts to take away such a simple thing from the design but my god they are fun toys to play with aren't they!!
honestly!! That makes no sense, seems so backwards and not helpful lol!! Maybe machines werent burning out quick enough for them to make $ 😂😂
They saw to fill it to the middle of the lowest blue wheel (just got mine)

Oh my gosh! You just answered my question. Which was can I put tape on tape. AWESOME! Thanks.
This looks better then the stain grain grinder .
Unfortunately it's not a grinder replacement. It's a machine to cut out those rare very difficult angles and shapes. Not for everyday, everyday glass piece grinding! But it is amazing for its purpose!
Great video!
Wow
Can this machine cut plates and cups? Love your videos!
Glass, porcelain or what? & thank you!
That's freaking awesome girl
Thank you! & thanks for watching!
New sub, they look awesome. Very autumnal. Great work.
So glad to have you! Thank you so much and thank you for watching!!!
Yes no more with the water line but the instruction book mentioned to fill the pan to halfway of the lowest bearing. As soon as I've done this I put a line on my pan.
So pretty
Thank you!!
Regarding rinsing grinded pieces, I rinse in a bucket with warm water. Should I be dumping the bucket water outside, versus into the household sink?
Absolutely, don't want to dump glass shards down the sink!
So good! 🍁❤🧡💛
Thank you so much!!
How do you dispose the water in your rinse bucket safely? TY, LOVE your channel.
Hermosoooooooo!!!
🖤🖤
If you have a ring saw , do you think there is still a need for a regular grinder also ?
Nice one
Thanks for watching!
Love my ring saw, bought it ten years ago for $325 , places are selling them now for $900. I will never sell my saw.
It's absolutely insane man. Same. I'm grateful to have mine.
Are you using the standard blade or the slim blade..just bought one of these yesterday. So excited to use it.
Hi, what do you think of lead free solder? Great vid😊
Like your demo of the saw... Trying to get past the cost output so that I am willing to buy it since I am strictly a hobbies and cannot recoup investment
Thank you!! It is absolutely not a cheap item, and it's such a rare case use that it's something to really think about for sure!!
Thank you - I did ask where to fill it on Facebook. Thought your video was very good. How did you manage to keep the outline of the leaves without it washing off half way through? I use Vaseline. Cheers from Wales
Thank you so much! And I just use sharpie! Works fantastic but comes right off when you need it to!
Where do you buy your glass? I love all your videos learned a lot from them.
I have shopping videos on my channel that show the store in Massachusetts! 🖤 toy town
Can you tell us about the Matt you are working on and what flux you use?
What’s your opinion on the accessory pack? Nice extra or unnecessary??
Absolutely not! This is not a grinder, it cuts shapes, you need a grinder for all edges!
@@MakenzieHallie Thank you so much for your quick reply. Just found you this morning, you are fabulous girrll!
No problem!! I'm glad to have you here!!!!! Thank youuu, so kind 🖤🖤🖤🙌🙌🙌
I’ve not researched the company that makes this, they may offer a unit designed for heavier usage. If not, you’ve got the dimensions in front of you. Create one using an air cooled motor, metal guide bearings.......
But, don’t attempt to make them for others, you’ll get sued for infringement.
Hi Makenzie, can you tell me what type of flux you use?
I use novacan liquid flux!
That looks awesome, do you think that this machinery will replace hand-cutting?
oh no, it's not meant to replace anything, as it could never do what hand cutting can! It removes (destroys) full sections of glass, so it would never be a full cutting stained glass substitute! Just a tool for those random hard or otherwise impossible to cut curves! Thank you for watching!
@@MakenzieHallie I can totally see why after rethinking that. But it would make cutting crescent moons easier yeah?
What pen did you you to mark the maple leaf?? The ring saw with water washed away the marks. Thanks
What do you use to draw your pattern on the glass. I used permanent magic maker and when the water hit it, the maker came off.
Is it weird to ask if you ever snagged a nail while grinding glass? They're fabulous btw ❤
Hey when you did the veins, did you do a bead?
Love❤
I put it in a box or cut a tote to keep the water and glass sand contained
If you have a Ring saw do you need your grinder ?
Yes, absolutely still need that basic grinder. This is for the rare occasion very difficult, or no break pattern. Meant to simply cut out hard angles, not grind. It just so happens to do it by grinding, if that makes sense!
@@MakenzieHallie Thanks ..😊
First of all thanks for making this video! I want one so bad but the real question here is the how HELL do you foil that piece without it tearing? Lol
Just got this saw and I'm wondering do I still need to grind pieces after cutting with it?
I would think not. Wow!
Is it better to do your vein overlay before doing the edges in foil?
are you using this saw now for your art or do you still work with the normal glas cutter?
This is not a replacement/doesn't do what a glass cutter does. This is for the occasional cuts you cannot possibly make any other way.
@@MakenzieHallie ah okay :) thank you for your quick answer . Greetings from germany
Welcome!!! Love Germany, my husband got stationed in baumholder for a couple years!
