When you turn on the sustainiac it will always use the bridge pickup, even if your pickup selector is in the neck position. That is the reason for the change in tone when you turn on the sustainiac while using the neck pickup 👍
The more you know... I've never heard that, and I've been playing since the Sustaniac pickup first got popular in the mid/late 90s. I've also never tried one.
One thing I didn’t notice mentioned (apologies if you did) when the sustainiac is engaged the sound is actually coming from the bridge pick-up regardless of the switch position. When disengaged it works as an active single coil neck pickup
I am seeing a lot of players using these Kiesel guitars. No question they are beautiful guitars. I might have to check them out and see if all the fuss is justified. Might have to get one for myself.
I didn't know Satriani and Vai used that. I always thought they had the perfect set up to achieve the sustain they have but now it makes perfect sense.
I have a Schecter Apocalypse with a Sustainiac. It is not only fun, but opens doors to whole new sonic vistas. Absolutely necessary for Vai and Satch, but there are a lot of others who use the Sustainiac as well.
btw the reason it loses the treble when the sustainiac is on with neck position pickup selected is because the sustainiac on switch overrides the pickup selector and goes to the bridge pickup
Sustaniacs are fun, but Sustainers (the Fernandes version) are far less prone to electronic buzzy interference when you're not letting the strings ring out. A noise gate takes care of it, but it's an extra pain in the butt to deal with.
As long as a cable is plugged into the output jack (even if it is not connected on the other end), the Sustainiac will work. You will drain the battery if you leave a cable plugged into the guitar, you will find that the battery is gone pretty quickly (just like active pickups). I love the Sustainiac - I have two guitars with one (an older Jackson Dinky and a new Schecter) and they are so much fun to play. Most installations have some adjustment screws on the board inside the control cavity to adjust the gain and sensitivity of the feedback and harmonics for the Sustainiac that you should take a look at. The older Dinky actually has an additional knob on the top of the guitar where you can adjust the sensitivity of the Sustainiac. That is the only model I have seen that has the knob for the Sustainiac.
I recently purchased a Schecter Elite with the sustainiac. I am a happy camper. It also has a Fishman Fluence bridge pickup. Also great. This guitar is absolutely spec'd out.
I have the Schecter KM-7 FRS with a sustaniac and its amazing. I'm actually really happy with how it sounds as a regular pickup as well. Running it through the Fortin Nameless Suite to chug actually sounds surprisingly good
This is literally my absolute dream guitar, I have either searched or looked for any guitar that has this exact build. I know for a fact that this guitar is far out of my reach price wise and I am a beginning luthier that is trying to build this exact guitar but I get so frustrated cause I am not able to get sound out of even one of the guitars I am building and even a sustainiac is out of my price range as is, but I do have a guitar that is my main guitar with a sustainiac in it, but I don't want to break it and unfortunately my main guitar that has a Floyd Rose on it, keeps letting the high e string slip out which causes me more frustration. I don't know lol, I guess this guitar just makes me wish I had enough money to just get that guitar alone. A guy can only dream right?
I have a sustainiac on my guitar it's the most fun ive had playing a guitar in such a long time. It's almost like a toy for a kid it's so fun. Every time I check out kiesel I look at the options this guitar has and yes it is perfect for me. They dont allow you to change the wood, and I'd prefer the body be an aries 2 for the second jack, and swamp ashe body, and ive always been a floyd rose player but I'd prefer that type of bridge now. Everything from the knob location to it being built by keisel makes this guitar insane. There is no other guitar id rather have right now, except I dont have 3000+$$$
If you built your own, dropping some of the high-end add-ons, you could come in at a lot less. Pretty sure you can put a kill switch and a sustainiac on any of their guitars. You'd have to call it in though.
@@TheSlandis i watch jeffs weekly show pretty much religiously he says they will not do these options on anything other than this particular model. Been drooling over the Sophie Lloyd SL6X think I might just have to get myself one in Blue. Sounds amazing and loving the extra electronics, being Kiesel going to be well built think it might be time to splash the cash
I love the neverending sustain! I just need a thin, flat neck, with the action practically so low that the strings (8s) are almost lying on the frets. idk why I need that for my sausage fingers, but what can I say. I love everything about your guitar! Guitar are sexy and they take you to a place that nothing else can. Thanks for everything you share, Tyler! 🤘❤️
Besides some of the customer service issues I’ve heard about. I’ve never heard anyone that’s played or owned one have a bad thing to say keisel guitars. Definitely on my radar to get one at some point.
I had a Radiohead Strat with Sustainiac a few years ago. It is a badass model but I didn’t really end up using it and sold it. The Reverend Gabrels model has one too. I would definitely buy one at the right price.
Obviously, yes, it IS the best guitar ever. Sophie's SL6x is perfection. I was able to play one of Sophie's personal guitars at the end of last year, it was the standard SL6, without the sustainiac, but it was just incredible to play too. The thing that I noticed, was how small and lightweight it is. I will be buying one, soon, when funds permit...
@seanp777 highly recommend 👌 I made a few trus adjustments but other than that it came set up perfectly. The only thing is the stock the bridge is a Floyd Rose Special style trem. I don't mind it but some people switch it out for the regular Floyd.
I bought a Schecter with sustaniac! In my opinion I now have the perfect guitars! 1 Stratocaster with custom pickups, scalloped fretboard in rosewood, locking tuners and .008 gauge strings and 500K pots since all my pickups are pretty hot to be passive! Seymore Duncan SHR-1B, DiMarzio Pro Track and DiMarzio Air Norton S. A Telecaster with DiMarzio Chopper bridge pickup, with a Stratocaster neck and locking tuners. Will maybe have 500K pots in that one too, and a cheap guitar that has the Fenders single coils lol! My poor bass guitars that doesn't get the same attention, I'll have to give them some love too! 😲

The shop I go to is 200 mi from my house closest shop and I don't even think they carry that brand. You sure do make it sing so I'll just have to take your word for it. It's a good one.

@@Davidxjdjdj yes it is, the second "coil" is just a visual thing. It looks like a bucker but it's not.

7:18 how do you drop the E without losing tuning on other strings? The guitar has floating bridge it seems

Steve Vai's Whispering a prayer is the ultimate guide of how to use the sustainiac;)
