There are at least three other YT channels you could have flipped that jr for 10k USD an hour after acquiring it. just sayin lol I've literally watched one YT player let loose at least two old jrs for about that recently.
i want that Glenn Frey 1964 Special - Special Forever ♾️ and a day nØw already the slide guitar work he does on it is amazing , along with everything else . the Cal Jam Concert with Bernie Leadon still in the band and Jackson Browne plays on stage with them on a couple of songs it's a daytime show - it's easier to see and clearer than some of the other live video material available
I live there and was in that shop last week. Must have walked right past you the day you were there. I was looking at the Epiphone Flying V with the P90's just to the right of the front door. It's a great shop.
I found a Japanese Aria Pro ii LP style guitar from the 70s in a pawn shop for $100. It was so dirty and needed some TLC. Once I cleaned it, it became so beautiful and is now my favorite guitar that I own. So there are indeed gems that can be found in pawn shops.
I found a Epiphone LP Standard in a Japanese recycle shop, too. new strings, and it plays as good as my real Gibson "Les Paul Standard." And it is lighter. 10,000 yen with a real Gibson hard case. That was about $92 bucks. It was made at the Qingdao Plant (Epiphone), China on January, 2006...all the same, a fine instrument.
My Strat was a junk shop find. The original owner bought it and never played it was stuck at the back of a cupboard, in the box, for over 20 years. It still had tissue around it. I paid a couple of hundred bucks for it, about 30 years ago, and it's been gigged ever since. One of the greatest bargains of my life!
There were many gems in that shop. At a glance it looked like you were just in a guitar shop. Absolutely wild! And that guy being fairly knowledgeable was cool too.
No way! This is in my backyard and those guys are great people too! The guy you’re talking to is a great wealth of knowledge too! So glad you stopped by our area!
Pretty this exact guitar was my first guitar that my grandpa gave to me. Hasnt been touched in a very long time but its ao beautiful just to look at everytime i walk past it.
Indeed. The very first time I went to Las Vegas, that was one of the pieces of advice that our cab driver gave us, "If you want to do some shopping, avoid the strip like the plague and check out the local pawn shops."
Best pawn shop find was a Peavey Invective 412 at a Pawn America last year for 250 plus tax. Apparently the head sold immediately but the cab sat for months and months. Has the correct v30s and cream backs in it. Bananas!
oh BTW, the guy at Strings that handles the authentication is Mark "Mo" Holmes. He's a rad dude. One of the nicest & sharpest guys around. I wanted to call him out.
I got a 89 JEM VSK at a pawn shop in South Dakota. 11 of them are known about in the world and they were never on the retail market. Pawn shops used to be awesome!
I do like the idea of the guitar shop licks..... Might be a competition there Tyler!? Must be original and categorised by starter, medium and rock star proficiencies...
Great video. I have visited Johnson City too many time to count. That was the closest place to my home town in Virginia that had a concert venue, Freedom Hall Civic Center was a massive part of youth. Thanks for the video.
OMG - that sound and tone when you first plug in at 2:10 is the most lush thiing I have ever heard. It took all of 2 seconds for me to think - you MUST buy this guitar.
In the early 2000's I was working at the EXIDE BATTERY'S Plant in BRISTOL we would go down to Johnson City to eat and there was a indoor go-kart track. In a old LOWES building. And a NASCAR Cafe across the way. Good times. I love TN. I'm from Alabama/Goregia line. Phenix city Alabama/Columbus Georgia. CHATTAHOOCHEE River separates the states here!!!
Seeing the Johnson City sign in your intro made me think I clicked on the wrong video, lol. I live about 15 mins away and never would have thought you'd make a trip through JC! Hopefully next time you're through I might be able to bump into you and say hello! Thanks for showcasing a little bit of our little city!
I live in the next town over, have been to that shop many times. Buy a lot of stuff, and have all my guitars worked on across the street at Morrells across the street! The IBMA guitar player of the year 2023 is from a town right down the road from Johnson City. Lots of good musicians from our area.
Only in Tennessee could you find a pawn shop with a Two-Rock amp, a Kemper, and a 54 Gibson....ridiculous. I've seen some good stuff in various pawnshops from time to time, but this one takes the Nashville cake.
If only the pawn shops near me didn’t try to rip people off, one has a Custom SE that they won’t budge on $600 and another has a core from 2002 and they want $2000 despite something clanking in it and it needing a lot of TLC
There's a special kinda feeling that comes to ya when you find a diamond in the ruff in a pawn shop. I search them regularly for guitars. The best I purchased for $100 bucks is a late 70's Fanning acoustic guitar. Based on a Martin, inlays like a LP and plays like a 70's Yamaha. Superb and growly sounding the way I like acoustics to play. Your accidental dream guitar is there at some pawn shop in the middle of nowhere. LoudLove
I purchased a 1981 Hagstrom Swede in a pawn shop for $100 but it needed a neck pickup, which was missing. I put in a Seymour Duncan jazz humbucker. Really warm pickup. Beautiful instrument....
I once found a Gibson Maurader at a pawn shop. Its one of my go-to places for equipment shopping. Got a barley used Crybaby Wah oedal for like 10 bucks at a pawn shop once. The only thing "wrong" with it was some discoloring on the switch itself. Pretty good considering even used ones can be almost 90 bucks.
I said no more guitars when I was up to 10. Today I'm at 65, and I'm still in no more guitar mode. Working like a charm for me. That Jr for 8500 seemed like a sweet deal, but then I really know a lot of NOTHING about guitars that old. It sounded awesome, as did the Strat
I owned a pawnshop years ago. Lotta amazing guitars would come in. I had a 1972J 45 walk in one time. Numerous Gibson Les Pauls. Numerous vintage chief seers guitars. They were in new condition. Definitely check out all pawn shops. Oh yeah I had a frying pan come in one time to. Lap steel.
I found a 1980s Strat style Japanese "SHONE" guitar (dirt cheap @ yard sale) ... can't find much on Shone other than some have said if have one, don't get rid of it.
I have a '93MIM Strat that is magic as well as a '97 LP Studio that is special as well. They're both pawn shop scores and are truly special instruments. Also have a '79 PBass fretless that I scored from another pawn shop. This bass is another magical find. It is perfect, but somehow (along with the LP and Strat) sat around at pawnshops. They're the best instruments I have owned.
I work at one and you’d be surprised at the stuff that comes in and out i get to deal with bad customers but finding gear and getting dibs on it is worth it ❤
Yeah, last time I went into my local pawnshop they had an Epiphone Masterbilt archtop acoustic, a high end Warwick bass, a sweet Aria Pro II bass, and a really nice Squier five string. Oh, and a crappy rattle can painted cheap strat copy with an Ibanez shaped headstock for $50.
I got my vox teardrop bass at a pawn shop down the street from me, one of the easiest basses I've ever played, the neck is like a broomstick compared to a fender
My local Cash Converters had a Squier Strat for £60. A bit of fret filing, fret end smoothing, nut and whammy bridge adjustment later and she's a goer. Couldn't be happier
My best pawn shop find, a mint condition 1972 Fender Stratocaster, with a perfect sunburst ... just $100. It was like it had never been used, and there it was, just hanging on the wall among Squires, beat up Epiphone LPs and crap I'd never heard of.
When I was about 18 I started playing bass because my soon to be brother and father in law needed a bass player and said I should learn. Jon, my brother in law, loaned me his very crappy (lol) bass. I can’t even remember what it was. I loved playing, but soon became bored with bass and started to learn guitar. I LOVED guitars, I think, more than playing them. I soon started going to pawn shops and realized, after playing several, several, that I loved Les Paul guitars. I could have bought at least fifty in approximately a four year period, for anywhere from $200-350. My brother in law, Jon, who just turned 18, bought a new 1983 Les Paul Custom, hard shell case, and a Peavey amp, for about $800. The amp was a two twelve combo with chorus, I don’t remember the model, but it wasn’t a little practice amp. This was in the days pre GNR, then they ruined everything. As soon as they came along playing Les Pauls, everyone wanted one and you couldn’t touch one under $600-700. I finally was able to buy one in about ‘91, a beautiful ‘76 Standard in wine red. I loved that guitar and haven’t played a nicer Les Paul since. I paid $500 for it from a friend who owned a guitar shop. (I bought several guitars there including a ‘90 Takamine Jumbo acoustic with a cedar top. That I still own today.) Unfortunately, about a year after I bought the LP I had some financial trouble and had to sell that guitar. The worst guitar story of my life.
In 1996 I paid $450 for a stripped 1955 Junior my coworker kept in his locker. Original pickup and wiring, replaced tuners and a Badass bridge. Begged him for years when I started there in 1988 to sell it to me, he finally did in '96. It has a flamed mahogany neck that is just perfect.
Not only do you have guitar skills, your video is fun, informative and so well shot. I thought you must have had a cameraman with you! Our son Zach enjoyed meeting you.Come back next time you're in town.
Pawn shops are definitely a mixed bag. Most stuff they have is garbage but once in a while, you may find gold there. Sometimes, you’ll find pawnshops that specialize in guitars and those are really cool.
Found one of the best Guitar music shops while I was camping last year. I definitely be stopping back in as they had a really nice selection of guitars. Drop off the wifey and SIL’s at the knick knack shops and I’m off to the music store 🤘🏼😁
Darn.. must be nice to have a local pawn shop that actually has decent selection like I see behind you. The ones in my area usually are filled with junk or one nice guitar but they want an ugly amount of money for it when I could just go buy new or from Reverb where I know its usually a trusted seller based on ratings.
I few years ago I found a $8000 holy grail flamenco guitar for literally $100 because of a tiny crack in the soundboard, the pawnshop misidentifying the manufacture as a cheap japanese Alvarez, and the metal head employees being ignorant about nylon string guitars. The happiest day of my life, since I play flamenco and never owned a real A1 Spanish guitar, and fixed the crack with super glue.
I just snagged a bucket list guitar for a hell of a price at my local pawn shop. It’s not a particularly great guitar, but it’s one that I was in love with when I first started playing, but a friend at the time convinced me that “Yamaha doesn’t make good guitars…” anyway, it’s an RGX A2, and I snagged it for just $120.
I got my late'70s Ovation Preacher Deluxe at a pawn shop I just wandered towards. I saw this ugly as sin Hammer, another shredder guitar, and then hiding behind everything was the Ovation. Played 12 notes and fell in love with it. It's been my main since 1996.
slash bought joe perrys old 59 dark burst at a pawn shop for around 5k dollars in the 90s i believe..wen people are in a pinch they pawn stuff you wouldn't believe!
0:45 dude if you can get your hands on Super Bock beer, (it's made in Portugal). You'll never ever want to drink American beer again... Unless it's Farrell's Bar & Grill's own brew in Brooklyn NY right across from Prospect Park. That's the best American made beer ever. Keep on rockin'. Take care. Mike.
I've never found anything quite THAT cool in a pawn shop, but I've found a LOT of nice guitars over the years. You just have to be diligent and go back often.
Nothing to do with the music, but I saw you have a Great Dane baby, they are the best breed IMO. I recently lost Astro, 9.5 yrs old. My ex and I adopted Astro when he was 5 months old, born blind, with kyphosis, and hip dysplasia, but he lived the best life any dog could ask for, and he saw the world, visited the mountain, forest, beach, and parks, car rides every day, he was very active. He was also an excellent dog and brother to Chloe, our first Dane, and still with us at 10.5 yrs but a sarcoma has shown up, apart from dealing with DCM and congenital heart disease, which is well managed. So likely I will have to say goodbye to Chloe soon. It's the biggest heartbreak I've had, losing Astro and the prospect of losing my baby girl. These are my babies, I don't have kids and at 51 I'm not having kids. Take good care of the big zoomer.
Right after lock down, I went to my local guitar center and managed to snag a 61 Custom Shop Closet Classic Strat in shoreline gold that eddies guitars originally had. Only $800. I did flip it late last year for $3100.
That’s great. I have never made a profit on reverb. And I’m selling really nice stuff. Right now is not a good time to sell and I’m not giving anything away for 1/3rd of what I paid for. Plus, taxes over and over. Using consignment lately.
Pawn shops all along the west coast have many vintage guitars for sale. Oftentimes priced higher than eBay or Reverb. You also find a lot of fakes in these shops because employees aren’t really trained enough.
We have a pawn shop that gets oddball guitars and basses. But it was a thirft shop that had this really great looking but way in need of many repairs to play comfortably original Univox semi-hollow. Plus they didn’t have an amp for me to test what was actually working. “As is” was too risky for me.
If you're in Johnson City, check out this awesome shop. Maybe the guitar is in there, maybe it's not...lol albertspawn.com/alberts-pawn-johnson-city/
There are at least three other YT channels you could have flipped that jr for 10k USD an hour after acquiring it.
just sayin lol I've literally watched one YT player let loose at least two old jrs for about that recently.
i want that Glenn Frey

the slide guitar work he does on it is amazing ,
along with everything else .
the Cal Jam Concert

from Johnson City
COOL
I live there and was in that shop last week. Must have walked right past you the day you were there. I was looking at the Epiphone Flying V with the P90's just to the right of the front door. It's a great shop.
That "no more guitars" thing really didn't age well
He didn’t buy it though
what no more guitars thing I don't know what you mean I have no clue please provide evidence of this
Me either brother I have 44 still not enough 😅@@MusicisWin
@@MusicisWinthe formula is current guitar collection + 1 or g+1
Didn’t he say no more NEW guitars? 😂
That's not a pawn shop but a really great vintage guitar shop that sells other stuff as well.

I have an Aria Pro II Fullerton. $65 but it’s not making any sound which is OK with me

I just bought a 20 year old prs in new condition.
That was actually very wholesome when he realised you were filming and he even apologised. Nice guy.
There were many gems in that shop. At a glance it looked like you were just in a guitar shop. Absolutely wild! And that guy being fairly knowledgeable was cool too.
Because thats all you'll ever need. Guns, Gold and Guitars. I so want a gibson lp jr
Maybe a girl or two would be nice also

That was the nicest pawn shop I've ever seen. The displays were amazing. Thanks for taking us on the journey. Peace
Ty!!!!!
Love the simplicity of the Junior
tylers really been going crazy with these cinematic shots
Went to the pawn shop on lunch today. Previously bought an Orangewood acoustic guitar and Tobias Bass there, but picked up a nice MIDI keyboard today.
Pretty this exact guitar was my first guitar that my grandpa gave to me. Hasnt been touched in a very long time but its ao beautiful just to look at everytime i walk past it.
Its a must for me to check out the local guitar store where ever I take a vacation. I will have to include the local pawn shop now.
A pawn shop with a Two Rock and Divided by 13....and some sweet vintage fiddles??? Where is this gem??
Yea where does this exist?
That Guns Gold and Guitars sign is also in a pawn shop in West Seattle
Best pawn shops are near casinos.
Indeed. The very first time I went to Las Vegas, that was one of the pieces of advice that our cab driver gave us, "If you want to do some shopping, avoid the strip like the plague and check out the local pawn shops."
My pawnshop gem was an early 90s Boss DS-1 made in Japan.
Everyone needs a Junior!! Junior Is Win!!
guns gold guitars sounds like a store you need to go into, as a south african, seeing a sign like that is wild
Pawn shops were awesome, before internet and eBay.
Dudes camera work is immaculate
OMG - that sound and tone when you first plug in at 2:10 is the most lush thiing I have ever heard. It took all of 2 seconds for me to think - you MUST buy this guitar.
As a lefty, I've seen more left handed guitars in pawn shops than in actual guitar stores.
Is there a "Kick me universe!" sign on my back? lol.
In the early 2000's I was working at the EXIDE BATTERY'S Plant in BRISTOL we would go down to Johnson City to eat and there was a indoor go-kart track. In a old LOWES building. And a NASCAR Cafe across the way. Good times.

Pawn Shops guitars in Nashville: FENDER, GIBSON, MARTIN, TAYLOR
Pawm Shop guitars where I live: Sandchez, Cort, Honner, unbranded, Yahama, Jackson
Actually this was in Johnson City, TN and I've never seen awesome stuff in a pawn shop until this place, even in Nashville!!
My point still stands😅
You’re such a nice guy. They really appreciated your company
Only in Tennessee could you find a pawn shop with a Two-Rock amp, a Kemper, and a 54 Gibson....ridiculous. I've seen some good stuff in various pawnshops from time to time, but this one takes the Nashville cake.
got to admit watching you play makes more more want to learn my guitar
what's stopping you?
What a beautiful town and yes that’s an awesome find!
That Jr was sweet, and your playing did it justice. The pick just had to follow you home! Thanks for the fine video.

That Les Paul Jr has a sorta KISS sound when he adds a lot of gain…

Subcribing to channels like this doesn’t help me with the “no more guitars” thing either 😅
Big dogs are the best, we had a Leonberger as our first dog and he was so fluffy and kind 👍
@@luke-guitarist That's wonderful, a pet's love is unconditional.
Great video Tyler! Camera angles are 🔥🔥🔥
Claasic Les Paul move: Repeated try to turn the tone and volume to make sure everything's maxed.
I Could easily spend a few days in a store like that love it enjoy fellas🕊
I scored a Charvel Model 6 with the case for $125 from a Pawn shop. Same shop I got a 70's Ibanez Les Paul from the same shop for $90
Right after lock down, I went to my local guitar center and managed to snag a 61 Custom Shop Closet Classic Strat in shoreline gold that eddies guitars originally had. Only $800. I did flip it late last year for $3100.
That’s great. I have never made a profit on reverb. And I’m selling really nice stuff. Right now is not a good time to sell and I’m not giving anything away for 1/3rd of what I paid for. Plus, taxes over and over. Using consignment lately.
I found a first year, 1968 Ovation Balladeer in a pawn shop for $75, a few years ago.
Wow a Two Rock too, the pawns near me just has First Act with broken strings.
Cool you were in my part of Tennessee, if I had known I would have said howdy, we were literally looking at that Les Paul Jr the other day
I have been so interested in one of these!
