Dude that's crazy ass hell I just happened to look at this video and seen the comment on top and my name is Paul
I can already see some gamers playing dark souls with this
true haha

Inb4 LobosJr
Don't give me too many ideas lol
I’d play dark souls with it lol 😂
The first thing I can think of is being able to sync guitar chugs and bass drum hits perfectly.
Thank you for taking the time to record this video which help me discover and see what this unique guitar can do🙂
This instrument is to guitar, what a synthesizer is to the piano. It will not replace the good old guitar, but It can open the door to a brand new style of music.
I love this.
@Satanic Panic Fun and Games except... some people have already trained on the fretboard and can play melodies easier on a fretboard than on a keyboard
@Satanic Panic Fun and Games don't think it'll be as popular as the traditional midi keyboard but when this good tracking comes to other guitars and improves it'll be great for any guitarist working with midi, bands use midi keyboards for synths sometimes it would be easier for em w the guitar
It doesn't need to replace a good old guitar - it IS a good old guitar as well.
I've always thought midi guitars were for people who didn't like guitars, but this is a good guitar that can do all the other stuff too, and it seems so responsive.
@@chopholtz4950 hardly a comparison....a lot of musicians out there have "normal" guitars that are way more of the "ferrari" price and they DO use them for very small things...you must not be a gigging musician
@@MrPartch that's exactly my thinking, if I were recording some doodling, I don't have to switch my brain off from guitar to mess with a synthesizer or other instruments to add layers of effects (and I really have no business with any other instruments), but just keep playing on my "guitar".
"This guitar can sound like any instrument you ever dreamt about."
I dreamt about guitar.
We don't do that here
It can also sound like a guitar though
Exactly....enough with the gimmicky horse shit
@@leviwarner1119 lol, imagine you buy that guitar to hear the sound of guitar 😄
Similar story... When I was an electronic musician, I always wanted to play guitar. Then I stopped dreaming. Playing a real instrument changed me forever.

@@Goofy_The_Scot ikr so true but when you actually know wtf you’re doing then you’re gonna have even more fun

It's simply magic that you can control your pedals thru the guitar. Playing the guitar as you do, I can see why you sweat a lot in doing this video. Simply magical video, thank you 🎸
The only time I've heard a price that high for a guitar and thought it was reasonable. Great vid ✌️

True, it's actually much cheaper than I expected. If I were a better player, I'd totally look into getting one someday
Back in the day my Dad played a Guitorgan, a 1970's semi hollow body guitar with organ electronics and sensors in every fret. It was way ahead of its time. Just by touching the strings he could play different organ tones while simultaneously picking the guitar. Watching this video, it's crazy how far we've come. I wonder what Dad would have done with this kind of technology.

Somebody saw Matt Bellamy’s guitar and thought it wasn’t enough
I was about to say the same thing: Matt Bellamy had a chaos pad modded into a guitar 15 years ago.
Indeed! 😄
Nah, way before Matt guitarists were dreaming of this. People have been dabbling with this stuff and guitar for a long time.
yeah his guitar is a Manson's guitar, I've been to their shop and met the owner, I highly recommend, great place and great people!
Immediately what I thought of
I normally like traditional guitars and am very closed minded when it comes to modern reimagining of classic instruments but this blew me away! My wife already said NO!
Yeah, same here. Except replace "wife" with "wallet".

She's right. This probably ain't going to be good in 5 years.
Ya I bet I don’t even want to look at the price.
@@jaxonrox Yeah it's absolutely not going to last that long. Even now I feel like the midi aspect already sounds outdated. And putting it on a guitar is just a bit convoluted for me.
That guitar is my new dream, I neeeed it!!! Amazing playing as always Paul!

I'm gonna wait for the fender squier version lol
Or a Chinese copy
Fishman triple play connect hexaphonic pickup something like 250 dollars.
Yea the price keeps me from buying this one... for now.
When is that gonna be out?
@@SamOjalvo if you are talking about the fender squire version, I believe that was a joke, the Fishman pickup is available right now on Amazon and is amazing for getting any instrument that can be played with midi to be played on guitar. I tried it on several of my guitars, but have it semi permanent on an Ibanez rga32. Some instruments work better than others but it is kind of intuitive S to what works the best. The cello and other strings are amazing and actually piano and any synth software are great too. Perfect for pads and other ethereal stuff. You don’t get the cool chaos x-y pad, but being a really good midi interface for guitar for 230 bucks it pretty cool. You can trigger midi with any guitar but the true polyphonic ability isn’t really there.
Amazing Paul, I definitely could see me playing something like that guitar. Just awesome.
Yes brilliantly presented video, I’m in !!! What a perfect instrument & compact for a mobile home
The note detection is so clean and accurate, I would have sworn it was a synth. I've never seen anything so impressive
When me and Paul said "that's a bass" at the same exact time, I felt that.

The part after the funny base line, that part is so addicting to listen too, I keep rewinding too the beginning of that part where you keep looping. Much love
Having any sound you want come out of your guitar is pretty awesome. A nice add on later for me. Thanks for sharing.
This guitar seems like they've *finally* cracked the biggest issues with midi guitars. $3000+ is a bit out of my price range right now, but I want one!
I remember the first time I saw a guitar with an XY midi control pad was Matt Bellamy's guitar for playing Madness on Muse's The 2nd Law tour, back in 2012. I remember being mind-blown that there was a guitar with a tiny little pad able to reproduce dubstep sounds.
I remember seeing that as well and man did I want that guitar
Was looking for this comment!
Ahh that was actually not a midi touch pad and a synth guitar integrated into a bass guitar
This guitar shop is actually in my area (Manson's) great shop.

Wow! Gorgeous!!! Love the song and the sound!!!
What an incredible instrument! I haven’t been this excited about music tech for guitar in years.
I feel like so many of us have dreamed about a guitar like this- oh the possibilities- I am excited
Listen to the album 'Sand', by Allan Holdsworth in 1987. Almost all synth parts played on guitar synthesiser, it's super futuristic-sounding
Bloody hell, this thing is in a class by itself. Wow. Like the Seaboard of guitars. Thanks for the demo.
this is a WONDERFUL review Paul. I WANT ONE, you convinced me :D
Give a cheers to that tapping solo , its just awsome
It's amazing to me that MIDI as a standard has been around since the early 80s and yet we're (musicians) only now starting to truly see the value of it in playing situations in the context of a guitar.
Being an amateur bassist and working in tech, the lack of tech interest from music company always blow my mind… 😅
You take any area of music production and from a tech point of view, we could do twice better…
4:00 this whole segment from start to finish is brilliantly played and gorgeous
This seems so awesome! I was classically trained on piano, switched to metal and jazz guitar in high school, and recently went back to learning piano since im doing more music production with midi and such. I would've LOVED to have this and not have to re-learn piano again haha
Really liked the demo, well explained and you took us through pretty much everything really well. Well done. Thank you.
Oh that intro was sick man . Keep up the good work.
This is amazing! I remember dreaming about the midi Kitana guitar that ended up getting discontinued, but this seems like a much more advanced version of it
Blew My Mind! Beautiful great share thank you
Cool guitar, but I'd still just play Smoke on the Water on it.
Anyways here's Wonderwall

But you could play it on every instrument 😏
MAYBE...
And I’d get it wrong
“If you play more funk lines it goes more…..”
Paul you sounded like a piano pro from a blues bar. 🤣🙌🏻
Yes! Specifically sounded like Professor Longhair, go look up his stuff and tell me Paul didn't nail it (accidentally?).
I know I thought it was new orleans for a second! I was like ok ok that mess sounds good haha
Not sure how I missed this video when it came out but sure glad I just found it. That guitar seems to be so damn interesting and super fun to play around with. Well done!!
My goodness, that demo track is fantastic
I am like you, I’ve dreamed of this for so long. Many systems like this are either missing something or make the playing experience unnatural or clunky. It looks like you were really able to get lost in playing, which is important.
I see that master craftsman, luthier Pat Beasley is involved in making this instrument. Pat has done some great work for me so this thing is going to play fantastically.
I saw this nearly a year ago, and was impressed. And being Irish, this made me smile...... this is a great demo of this guitar, it whets my appetite. The instrument could be used in a lot of applications, for example composing and arranging and recording. I can really imagine using one of these. I have also tried midi guitars before but this seems different and a way better implementation of the concept.
Holy crap this is so amazing, I want the demos played here as full songs.
Paul always makes my days off great
"You do have to play the notes neatly." I'm out.
That's funny
I'll buy it if they make the headstock look cool. It's like a kitchen gadget for guitarists.
Plus, you cannot play chords it seems?!
@@ryun_d3v you can strum it. But it's not gonna ring
Not only that, you have to play in a completely different way which contradicts the naive notion that you could apply your guitar music skills to other instruments this way. I have been playing with guitar-to-midi for a long time now and all systems have the same issues which are not down to the tech but some fundamental incompatibilities between how MIDI and guitars work. Hammer-ons, ghost notes, double notes, bends, the list goes on.
Amazing Paul, just amazing!!
I'm sold on this guitar!! It's🙂 so amazing sounding!!!
The tone is stunning and wow, this guitar is crazy.
Kids 10-20 years later: "What's a pickup?"
Maybe they will play an actual sounding air guitar. And then misplace it.
I am just a beginner no way to go down this road with the experience you have it sounds fabulous you must be happy it has a quality to it great.
That's pretty cool.i like the way you can make it sound like a different instrument.
The synth tapping section of the video utterly blew my mind. The idea of recreating Synthwave music, or even video game sounds that resemble the classic Commodore 64 or Sega Megadrive on an actual guitar is a dream come true! Absolutely wonderful video with incredible demonstrations and descriptions.
You can actually do this pretty easily in a DAW with your guitar now, particularly because lines like that are monophonic. Just compress it a bit going in, record your line, convert note to MIDI, 127 the note values and start feeding it to any number of softsynths.
I’ve been dying to hear this in the hands of a professional. Great demo.
Thanks for the review Paul. Do you know if with this guitar you can write tabs as you play along? It should recognise the exact string, bend, slide and so on. That could be the most useful aspect of MIDI guitars.
Hah, that was my thought too. A midi guitar seems unappealing to me, and 'string instruments' are generally easy on a keyboard even if you're not a big piano player. But being able to record vibratos and bends in tabs as you play them could be nice.
And/or can it do real time sheet music, transposing etc? The cost of a guitar such as this has to weigh up to real money, man-hour and time for its development. To then further develop it adds to the cost needless to say. This is a very brave energetic effort, and will have future applications indeed. Awesome design.
Funny question. The guitar obviously is a regular MIDI controller. So you can control any MIDI responsive software. Plus some. 😁
I'm a guitar beginner, check my videos, all the donations (if any) will be used for volunteering in Ukraine. Will upload some new ones soon. Thanks!
Yes you can. Record into a miditrack and chose tabs. (Studio one)
I've played guitar 40 years and keyboards 35 years but for me it's having that package. Yes, takes time to set up what you want but when you have that it looks like a super time saver. No more switching back and forth to bass, keyboards, drum pads then guitar. It can all be right there and when I have that moment of inspiration I want to capture it quickly. It's something I would consider saving up for. Oh, I like that 2 finger tapping which I do a lot too but on guitar you need setting so it can pick that up well. With that guitar it looks like you can be way more creative and get sound out of the notes to a more balanced volume between the right and left hand. I could spend hours just doing that. Great video again. Thank you!
Considering how synth heavy most music is nowadays, I can see how this instrument will revolutionize how guitarists are incorporated in live performances.
my thought exactly. you could have a guitarist front and center of a rave. That may not be everyone's cup of tea, but that would be unbelievably revolutionary for many.
I'd love to see Matt Bellamy, Jonny Greenwood or even Tim Henson would do on this beast.
I guess that Matt will do something extreme with his Manson's
Matt Bellamy has guitars very very similar to this with the touchpad and MIDI controls, look at their show from Rome in 2013 and you’ll see him using a guitar like this for a lot of the show

Can I just say this is one of the most well done guitar/gear review videos I’ve seen. You conveyed your genuine appreciation for every part really well and showed its insane potential while also really noting your criticisms realistically.
Some musical virtuoso genius could be unstoppable with this
Indeed my friend. I trust a review that contains honest criticism. It lends credibility to the positive comments. Also, what one person “doesn’t” like may be the exact feature someone else is looking for in their music.
I installed drum triggers under my scratch plate and in my guitar's neck, and I've hunted for every synth pedal to get closer to these sounds, but this would really solve my problems! I am so excited about the direction guitars are headed... a blend of the past and the future is why I loved Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds since I was a kid.
A year late but still amazed. This seems like a guitar that explosions in the sky would utilize the hell out of.

Glad to see someone making high quality midi capable guitars. The most widely available is probably Jamstik's studio model which is still kind of a pos build-quality wise.
In the hands of a master it sounds truly amazing 😊
That thing is wild man it’s amazing
This reminds me of a plugin I made in college to convert a guitar's audio output into MIDI information (obviously this guitar does WAY more). It's a blast to play around with, you can do some really weird and unique things on a guitar that you wouldn't do on keys, and unique things with synths that you couldn't do on guitar.
