I also want to recommend Aso Boy and Yufuin No Mori down in Kyushu. Amazing designs and superb scenery. If you look up "Joyful Trains" you'll find there are plenty of interesting ones.

    Hey! Thanks so much for some great content. I have a question for you:
    Is Tokyo Wide Pass better than the Greater Tokyo Pass? Iùve read that the Greater Tokyo pass can be added to the PASMO card. We don't want to take any Shinkansen

      Tokyo Wide is best for doing daytrips. Greater Tokyo Pass is good for inner city travel. Adding it to pasmo or suica is a good idea!

    Thank you so much for this! Very helpful information about the Tokyo Wide Pass. Most of my questions are answered. However, I have one destination that I would like to go to: Nagano, because we want to see the Snow Monkeys! But no matter how I search about it, I can't find whether this pass will help me get there. Some said yes, some said no. If you don't mind, could you provide me with some clarifications? Thank you!

    • @japanunravelled
      @japanunravelled  7 місяців тому

      Hello! Tokyo Wide Will NOT get you to Nagano. You need the JR East Pass, Nagano area, or the Hokuriku Arch Pass. Both can be found at the regional passes link in the description.

    First of all: thank You SO much for another piece pf VERY useful info!
    Questions now:
    Is the "Yamanote Line" included in Tokyo Wide Pass (I guess so, but I ask for confirmation)
    Toward Hakone are there trains or special trains included (or shall one use the local "Hakone Pass", maybe in just conjunction with the Tokyo Wide)??
    The "joyful trains" include the one who goes arond Izu Peninsula (Saphir Odoriko? There must be another one which runs in opposite direction)
    An "indepth focus" of "joyful trains", their deals (and periods of service) should be useful!!

    • @japanunravelled
      @japanunravelled  Рік тому +1

      You're welcome!
      1. Yamanote Line - yes, included!
      2. Tokyo Wide gets you to Odawara, but after that you need to pay for the private line to Hakone. Hakone Free Pass might be worth using depending on your itinerary.
      3. Saphir's not classed as a "Joyful Train" and a little searching tells me Tokyo Wide only covers the base fare. So you need to buy the "Super Limited Express" ticket separately. You can do this using JR East Reservation in English. It's pricey though!

      @@japanunravelled Thanks! I still need to "study" the Joyful Train or Special Tourist train thing... I'd like to take at least the one (or more) around Izu and Mie/KUmano/Nachi Falls... I'd also like to travel on something like "Yufuin no Mori" when I will be in Kyushu, but it seems to me that that one (and also some other) does not travel regularly but just from late spring to early autumn (which is strange because, especially in autumn, there could still be at least one "good" month to enjoy nice enough weather in october)

    • @japanunravelled
      @japanunravelled  Рік тому +1

      Yufuin no Mori is possibly the very best of the special trains. I've taken it in March and June though, so maybe it does run all year round - hard to track down the info. Also, check out Aso Boy...

      If you're using the pass, of course you can just start from anywhere in the area. Be careful with where you pick it up though. The locations are limited (see the JR East page in description). Can you reserve seats in the machine even before the start date of the pass? For example, I'll claim my pass on Feb 1 but the start date of my pass is Feb 2. Am I allowed to reserve seats on Shinkansen going to Mt. Fuji on Feb 1 or I could only do it on the actual travel date?

      I'm not sure, but I think the answer is yes. You can reserve seats online beforehand too, regardless of where you buy your pass from. So you can always do that before the pass starts and just pick up the reservation tickets at the machine with the QR code you get. The JR page may have more details if you hunt, but I hope that helps!
