Hi, thankyou for your explaination about the nikko pass! But i have some question if you don't mind. 1. What type of train covers the trip from asakusa to tobu nikko station if i don't upgrade to limited express train? 2. Where can i find the non limited express train time table? Is it available online? Thankyou so much!
Hi there! 1. You can take any local or express train operated by the Tobu train company which is the same company that issues the Nikko pass. 2. You can try or Tobu official website Jorudan website. Google map also works. Good luck!
This was super helpful! Do you think it is possible to explore the shrine area and lake Chuzenji area in just one day(leaving and arriving at Asakusa in the same day), at least partially? Because I wanted to do both (with the 4-day pass), but I'm not sure if I will have time.
If I am choose Spacia X train, should I booking to KLOOK separed ticket to go and return ? Do I need NIKKO PASS if I planning to visit heritage site and edo wonderland only 1 day ?
I booked the regular Nikko all area pass through klook and upgraded to limited express train at the station. Based on my one experience, I found Klook trustworthy and easy to use. Nikko pass doesn’t cover admission to world heritage site or edo wonderland, it only covers transportation to those attractions
@@travistravels8818 thanks for your valuable information. I think NIKKO PASS for entrance pass to shrine, museum, base fare for Spacia X, local bus, local train etc. I am understand Edo wonderland have separate entrance fee.
Hi thanks for the information. Question 1: I planning only for one day visit. Will the 2 day pass still covers it to return on same day ? Question 2 : what is best to be covered within one day say 6-7hr in nikko.
Hi there, regarding #1 yes, you will be covered. #2 head straight to the UNESCO world heritage area which is about 10 minutes by bus from the train station. Then followed by a meal at one of many restaurants near the train station. Enjoy!
Hi 6:07 minute, you have mentioned that question 3: the travel would involve 1 or 2 transfer(and you also told we may need not have to get down) . So it's basically a train stops rather than transfer? Question 4: what's the time difference between slow train vs express?
Hi again. #3 the pass by itself only covers regular tobu trains. There’s no direct regular train from asakusa to tobu, so you will definitely need to transfer to a different train en route. However, if you upgrade to the limited express train aka Revalty, then no transfer is necessary bc it is a direct train from asakusa to tobu
#4 regular train takes 2.5-3h w 2 transfers. Limited express train takes just under 2 hours. You can check Jorudan for exact train schedule, transfer info. Happy travels!
I intend to spent 2 days and one night in Nikko, can’t I buy the 4 days pass? If I buy the express tickets? Is there a fix seats and time I need to specify ?
Hi there! Yes you absolutely can buy 4-day pass even if you return before the fourth day. For limited express train, you need to specify the day and time and you will get a specific seat number. You can upgrade to limited express on day of travel at the station. That’s what I did.
Great practical video Travis. If I purchase the Pass on Klook, is the pass activated from the App? As we are travelling from Kanazawa to Nikko, we are not travelling through Asakusa, so I understand I will have to pay for a different train fare from Tokyo to Nikko. However, can we still activate the pass when we arrive in Nikko? Thanks for your help. Enjoying all your videos.
Correct. Activate the eticket in the Klook app just before you board your first bus in Nikko. Show the eticket (which has a count down timer) to the bus driver or train conductor and you are all set. Happy travels!
hello!! very helpfull video. I just have one question. Im planing to buy the world heritage pass of to days. I understand that this covers asakusa-nikko and nikko-asakusa basic line and then to go faster I have to buy Spacia X. I've alrready bought Spacia X for asakusa-Nikko, but now I wonder do I also habe to buy an extra ticket to go back or can I just show the nikko pass??? I just cant find the trains time schedules to plan when to go back and not pay an extra.
Hi there! As long as you are within two days of activation (aka when you use pass for first time) then you can use pass to go back, but you have to take regular train unless you upgrade to Revalty for Nikko-Asakusa. Revalty is a direct limited express train. You can try Jorudan website for train schedules. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!
Hello! Thank you for the informative video. If I travel to Nikko for a day, do you think the 4 day pass is worth it? Or are we able to just pay individually for the buses we want to take there with cash. I will be going the kegon falls and lake chuzenji direction.
From a pure economic and convenience standpoint, it’s worth it bc the 4-day pass is cheaper than buying all tickets individually. However, covering that much ground in one day will be incredibly rushed and tiring. You will spend more time in trains/buses than actually sightseeing
hello! thank you so much for your video! i am planning a day trip to nikko where i will cover shinkyo bridge, toshogu shrine, akechidaira ropeway, lake chuzenji and kegon falls. could you tell me if the nikko all area pass is worth it? i am planning to buy a limited express train ticket. will be grateful if you could reply asap thanks!
Hi there! Your itinerary is very ambitious and logistically challenging. First, express train from Tokyo to Nikko and back takes about 4 hours. Second, bus from Nikko to Lake Chuzenji and back takes 2 hours. Idk if there’s even enough daylight in the remaining hours of the day to visit all those attractions. Putting that aside, note that the Nikko al area pass only covers transport, not attractions, not even the ropeway. So the pass is only worth it from a convenience and efficiency standpoint, I.e., you don’t have to buy a ticket each time you get on a bus. Note, the bus is usually very full. It’s not worth it financially speaking bc it won’t save you money. In any event, have a great trip. And don’t forget to make time for food!
Thanks for your most informative video… my question would be what if we did not want the boat ride or gondola ride would the Nikko pass save me money on the Revaty train ?
Hi there! Revaty roundtrip bought separately costs about 6700yen. 2-day nikko world heritage pass plus discounted revaty upgrade costs about 6000yen. 4-day nikko all area pass plus discounted revaty upgrade costs about 8500yen. So to answer your question, pass saves you money on revaty only if you go for 2-days. Hope that helps
Hi @travistravels8818, great information there. I will be travelling with my young childrens to Nikko for 2 nights. Looking at your recommendation it makes more sense to get the nikko all area pass and upgrade to revaty to save time. I plan to get the 4 days pass through klook, my question is where can I get the upgrade to revaty? Can it be done online or at the Asakusa station it self? Also are there any difference in the upgrade price for children's below 10 years of age? Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Hi, Travis, I’ve read somewhere that for me to ride the limited express train (SPACIA X) that goes to Tobu-Nikko from Asakusa, I have to buy a limited express ticket. But does the Nikkō world heritage pass cover the base fare for the limited express train?
Hi there. Yes the pass covers the base fare allowing you to ride regular train only. To ride limited express train, you can upgrade your pass. There are several limited express including Spacia X and revaty. I rode revaty only. Spacia X is newer and fancier. Enjoy!
@travistravels8818 thanks for the info. To upgrade the Nikko pass, can I buy the limited express ticket online in advance (seats seem to get sold out quickly). Then, get the Nikko pass from the Tobu Centre?
You should get the Nikko Pass first and then upgrade to the limited express at the tobu travel center to enjoy a discount on the limited express. Otherwise you won’t get the discount. Don’t worry, there are several limited express per day. They are never full unless you go during golden week 4/29 or cherry blossom season
Hi there. I personally have not taken JR Line to Nikko however it can be easily done. There are two stations in Nikko, one run by Tobu and another run by JR. There are many routes possible. One route is to start in Tokyo station, transfer at Utsunomiya station, and arrive in Nikko JR station. You can find alternative routes on Jorudan website and filter to JR Pass. Good luck!
Hi Brother, Im travelling to japan next week , Tuesday is my arrival . Im planning to go to nikko on weekend. so is it possible to buy nikko pass on tuesday ( the date of my arrival) and start traveling to nikko on saturady. please guide
Hi there! Yes you can buy the pass in advance either at the Asakusa station Tobu ticketing office or online. I bought it 2 weeks in advance on Klook. Have fun!
Hi there! You can upgrade to the express line at the Asakusa station Tobu ticketing office. You may be able to do it online as well. But I did it in-person and it was pretty easy. Good luck!
Good question. Nikko Pass covers local and express trains that run on the Tobu-Nikko line between Asakusa and Tobu Nikko station. The upgrade is for the “limited express” train that runs on the same line, aka Revaty train
If I get the 4 day nikko pass (even tho i just do a day trip) and the upgrade to the Revaty train I can travel from Asakusa to Nikko directly without transferring and back again the same day and it includes the local busses and the ferry around the lake ch.. area ? Sounds like a plan!
Hi there! The 4 day pass by itself only permits you to use nonreserved trains. However if you upgrade the pass, you’ll be able to take the reserved Revaty Kegon express train from Tokyo Asakusa to Nikko. All trains within Nikko area are local trains and therefore are all nonreserved
Hi! We'll just DIY daytrip in Nikko, so we're planning just to buy the 2 day pass, does it include a round trip ride from asakusa to nikko and nikko back to asakusa?? Also, we want to explore around Nikko and go to the popular bridge in there, the shrines, a view of the kegon fall, do we have to take busses to see those spots or we can just walk around to get into each of them??
hi there lwwq! the 2-day pass includes round trip asakusa-nikko on regular tobu train (aka express and local trains). you will have to make at least one transfer unless you upgrade to tobu limited express train (aka revaty) which costs extra. bridge and shrines are all within walking distance of the nikko train station. kegon fall is not within walking distance and you'll need to take a local public bus which is not included in the 2-day pass, but bus fare is very cheap. have fun lwwq!
There's a huge problem with this pass. You must pay the express ticket unless you want to miss the whole day because there are no slow trains until very late (leaving Asakusa at midday).
Very informative and definitely helped me to plan in going to Nikko
Glad to hear. Have a great trip!
Very informative. Thank you. One suggestion: the background music is loud, maybe tune it down a little bit.
