you are so welcome! thanks for watching. yeah its great during ceremonies, speeches, and cocktail hour to snipe and get close ups without disrupting the vibes
Phil. Great video. Glad you are well. I've been eyeing this lens for a while. While I'm just a hobbyist, I totally see your points on capturing moments with this during events. I do love my F2 23 for gatherings and now have a solid reason for picking this up. Thanks!
Enjoyed the video Phil👍 Looking at choices for my next Fuji lens. Was considering a WR rated telephoto as an “add on” for my 35mm f2 and 16mm f1.4 for some street photography however, I already have a Tamron 18 - 270 paired with a Canon 40D (for dry days with decent light!) so leaning towards the 90 f2. In your opinion would this be a better choice for Street?
The 90mm is such an under rated lens. If I would ever get rid of my fuji system. I would keep one body just to use this lens. My top lenses Fuji 90mm and Sigma 56mm 1.4 sharp sharp sharp.
That lens is my absolute favorite Fuji lens, for all the same reason. It's just that good, that separation of the subject is amazing. I still love the 23mm too those two are about 90% of all images I take. Remember I said my Fuji gear was good enough to shoot our Canada pro basketball aka US' kindergarten basketball, well just weeks after that Weber state came for a tournament in town and that 90mm bad boy took some amazing shots of Dillon Jones.
Hey Phil great video! Have you compared the 90 to the 50-140? years ago i went with the 50-140 instead of the 90 and while i've enjoyed the versatility i feel that the 90's more compact size lends itself to event work better compared to the 50-140. I just feel too obvious running around with the zoom. I just don't know if there's enough of a difference between them to justify the purchase of the 90 - I'm hoping Fuji renews it with a faster aperture.
I havent done a compare but Ive had both and prefer the 90. the 50-140 is an INCREDIBLE zoom lens. Just very bulky and not something i used or would use oftern, so i let it go.
I have bought the 90mm twice now. First was when I got into Fuji for the second time and the second time it was the first thing I bought when I got back into Fuji. It's one of those lenses I constantly recommend to people. 137 is just so odd for so many people and they opt for the 56 instead. The 50 1.0 balances poorly I would imagine on the XT bodies, on the XH bodies I think it's more than fine...thing does have some heft though.
@@philporto Yeah both are great. The 90 has a better 3D pop or whatever people call it. The subject separation and the sharpness is chefs kiss. Used it recently with the 56WR and the colors were great.
Awesome video. I have this lens, but I haven't put enough images on it yet. I'm getting ready to go on a trip to The Philippines soon, and I still haven't narrowed down my lens choices yet. Being that I shoot more portraits, I want to bring a few variations. The 90 I have been highly thinking about. What other lenses would you bring on a trip like this for mostly portraits and a few groups?
I love the 90mm. I use it for some portraits but the lenses I default to on trips would be the 18 and33, but the 18 and 56 are also a great paring. you want something wide enough to show the beauty of the area and one close enough to capture the culture and the people
@@philporto Thanks for the recommendations. I don’t have the 18, but I do have the 16-55 and that covers a lot of bases. I’ve decided on that lens to bring plus one other. Either the 56 or the Viltrox 75 1.2
Ah...watching this review gives me GAS...so tempted to get one because someone is selling an excellent condition used for about half the MSRP. Bless my wallet...
Best Fuji / Wedding Content on UA-cam hands down.
thank you so much. trying to grow it but this aint easy haha
Love this man! I've long called this my magic lens for all the reasons you just described!
thanks for the comment and watching. it really does have a magic sense to it!
The XF 90mm f2 is an amazing lens. The auto focus is quick, too.
yes it def is!
Can confirm. What a lens
thanks so much. it def continues to give the wow factor
I love this lens too. I use it for cermeonies, drinks reception and many portraits. Thanks for the video 👍

Hey Phil! Glad to see you are back. Great vid. Never shot the 90 but might rent one over the summer coming up. Hang in there and stay well.
thank you that means a ton. you should def rent it!
Great lens, great video! Thanks!

Totally agree 🙂
I bought that lens last month and I love it . I also like your videos. 👍📷

heck yeah. def worth keeping no matter what
Nice review man!! How does the Autofocus hold up on the 90mm? I’ve seriously been considering it.
its great! I love it. for something at that local length its great. message me if interested. i have two so selling one. info@philporto.com

HECK YEA! That is awesome to hear! link me to the images!
Got it, use it with the xt5, it's great.
it def is!
I boght the viltrox 75mm f1.2 instead. But still want to try the 90mm.
I owned both and sold the 75mm I prefer the 90mm. I didn't jive with the 75mm
i hear its a good one, but not enough of a snipper lens focal length for me.
I have the Canon EF 135/2.0 and it is super-duper. Now when I also have a Fuji-camera i expect the 90/2.0 to be the same or better!
yeah, i absolutely love how good this lens has been since I got it!
Thanks for the info, Phil! On the fence between this and the infamous Viltrox 75mm 1.2…
In the same boat, which when did you get considered both are priced the same for used ones?
@@vaughnvalle still not sure which to get haha. Sorry, that doesn’t help you.
@@nate_thenotso_great Haha no worries. I ordered both and will return one so we'll see how it goes
@@vaughnvalle great! You’ll have to let me know!

yeah, the heft just wasnt it for me. and at times the 90 bokeh seems more natural to me as well. but both are great lenses.

Whatever you say is fact. Not my favorite lens but that must mean I’m shooting it wrong. ❤

yeah the 16-55 covers a lot of ground. i just wish they would upgrade it and it be a bir cleaner/ sharper
Great video 👌 I believe the viltrox 75mm f1.2 smashes the 90mm in terms of image quality, bokeh and price
id love to compare the 2, just the focal length for me, 75 isnt ideal since i use it for various reasons.
