What is actually happening is that Funimation subscribers will now have to pay the price of Crunchyroll subscribers, still scummy, still monopolistic, but that does not excuse the misinformation that I have spread because of it. For that, I apologize and thank those who brought that to my attention. *

Not scummy at all. They gave Funi users many months notice of the upcoming changes, & ofc the price went up. Funimation had a much smaller library of content compared to CR, so ofc they're not going to get to keep paying Funi prices.. lol. Or do you think they should be allowed to pay less than CR users, for the same product?
If anything, scummy is making a awful clickbaity, misinformed video & even after being corrected... still not even altering the original title. 🙄

I'm not defending the company but will call out misinformation. Crunchyroll IS NOT increasing their prices. Funimation users will soon have to pay Crunchyroll prices which is their Mega Fan (mid tier) subscription. Crunchyroll never had a $55/yr plan.

Gets Crunchyroll ad while watching a video criticizing Crunchyroll. Nice.
Remember, Crunchyroll didn't buy out Funimation, Funimation bought Crunchyroll. Actually, Sony was going to buy most of the WarnerMedia Group, but decided only on Crunchyroll, VRV etc. Some bad apples and less profitable things were cropped out to make it more enticing to Sony. But it was Sony that decided to close Funimation and move everything to Crunchyroll not the other way around. One reason for this has something to do with the way the Crunchyroll website hides its actual code from users... makes it painfully slow on some computers. :/

Sony (who owns Funimation) bought Crunchyroll (and not the other way) and all the bad decisions that were made are definitely from Sony/Funimation.
Sony probably closes Funimation and keeps Crunchyroll alive because it is bigger and the better known brand.
This guy whines about Funimation’s low compensation of creators, but endorses pirating animes.

@@ranzamack8447 CR didn't raise its prices at all: its the same as always. It's only an 'increase' if you only had Funimation (which is leaving) & now are going to move to CR instead.. since CR was always more than Funi, since CR has more to offer.
Funi has been notifying ppl of this for a long time.. it's not even news. These rage baiters are just looking to spaz out n make lazy content.

I never got Crunchyroll until I had to. With that in mind, I don’t understand how people thought the Crunchyroll‘s website was better than Funimation’s. Maybe the catalog was better I don’t know, but from a user standpoint, Funimation‘s website an app, and how they layout their shows, they are dubs their seasons, etc. just look better

Here is what really happened:
Crunchyroll didn't increase their prices. Funimation users just have to pay the CR prices soon because they will use CR and not Funimation. $100 a year is $8.3 a month and that's for the super premium subscription. The actual problem is the loss of digital copies! Pirate sites have more anime because they don't have to pay for licenses. If you want to have the same amount as pirate sites, you would have to pay more for a subscription and not a lot of people can afford that. CR is currently $8 a month. That's still profitable for a lot of people.
TLTR:
-CR didn't increase their prices.
-Funimation users soon have to pay CR prices because it will become one thing
-There will be no changes for CR users so far other than more content.
-The real problem is the loss of digital copies people bought
-Pirate sites can have a lot of anime because they don't have to pay for licenses
The digital copies problem isn't even as big of a problem as people make it out to be. People seem to ignore the fact that these digital copies COME with the Blu-Rays. So the only thing they are losing is access to is viewing it on Funimation, not sure why anyone would want that anyway. You should just be making back up of the Blu-Rays you already have.
Thank you, I see all the anime yt talking about increasing the price when if you look at crunchyroll tiers, the $100 option has always been there. Nothing is being increased it’s literally Funimation users moving to a platform where they gotta pay the regular price.
This aged so horribly now they’re taxing for no damn reason at this point which is exactly why I hate Crunchyroll I refuse to acknowledge them as an actual anime stream service

@@dahyo8480Not really,Crunchyroll increased their price a month by $2,not bank breaking but almost doubled their seasonal anime and increased their funding of anime production and added profiles,so you’re paying but getting more content.HiDive increased their price by $1 after they released a terrible ui update,remove profiles and had only 3 new anime this season (UY was also just a new cour so that’s only 2 new anime series).

Absolutely agree. May 12 premium members like myself have been downgraded to fan from premium. The app after last update crashes and you can't even watch anything. Zero customer support. Please do a video to bring these issues to light. Thank you

I had both subscription. Funimation renewed my yearly subscription in February….and shut down a month later. I had to file for a refund via PayPal because Crunchyroll/Sony didn’t refund my payment. Also, all forms of communication with Funimation is shut down.
I have gone back to physical media.
Hate that these people made crunchyroll the winner. How the heck yall let a pirate site beat out an actual official company. Now we have to deal with a crappy app that is beyond terrible. They count different languages as seasons

You don’t know what Blu-Ray quality means. Blu-ray episodes are about 5 GB per episode. Crunchyroll episodes are about 1.5 GB per episode. That is still the highest you will get, from streaming sites anyway.

The reality, or at least what they're saying, is that people still have the main product they purchased, but a portion of the product is lost. It's completely reasonable to make this clarification. Whether it's true or not, I have no idea.
Clearly Seatactics has no clue wdf he's talking about. CR isnt raising prices - it was never $50~ for a yearly CR sub. These prices are what Funi users are going to have to pay if they want to move over to CR.

Well yeah as Crunchyroll only supports fan subscription at monthly, mega fan is monthly and can be done annually which causes the 100 price tag, ultimate fan can only be done monthly. Making mega fan the only one

HiDive doesn't have any of the shows I like...so why should I join them. I like to rewatch some of the old shows too. They need to expand their library.
For all that matters to this costumer I already cancelled my subscription and I'm not coming back.
Crunchyroll doesn't even have subtitles for English dubs and it pisses me off so much because it is NOT that hard to do. Also I won't even talk about their SHIT PS4 app
Crunchyroll is a very scummy company and has destroyed anime. Yes, there is a lot more anime these days, but the quality of most of it is on par with the crap quality of Dollar Store DVD movies.

The $54.99 per year to $99.99 per year is not exactly what is happening there. The grandfathered Funimation prices are ending and everyone is going onto the existing Crunchyroll prices. If you already have a Crunchyroll subscription, then there isn't a price change. It's definitely a jump, and enough to make anyone have to think about it, but also not surprising that they aren't going to run two different prices after this.

What doesn't make sense here, Sony owned Funimation. They Purchased Crunchyroll, they decided to combine as Crunchyroll and abandon "Funimation". The same company you originally made digital purchases with, which is now calling itself Crunchyroll is just telling you to screw off. Sony tried to do this with Discovery content on the PS5 as well, just remove and delete your purchases en masse until there was a big enough stink they had to backtrack.

I understand how monopoly is bad on one hand but on the other. I really like to have one site where everything is and where I feel safe. Using pirated sites where there are pop-ups and viruses make me feel uneasy. Now I would love for crunchyroll to actually have all movies and episodes of animes that I like. I'm also in a position where I live in a country that doesn't have Anime easily accessible so digital copies are probably the only way for me to go and there lies the main problem.
