It´s incredible, I live in Europe, I´ve bought the 2024 version with i9 14900hx + rtx 4090 etc, everywhere I´ve researched I was told 2024 models all have miniLED, the website I´ve bought even has a video on the photo gallery showing Nebula HDR screen etc. I only discovered with this video almost 1 month after buying, and I was honestly not super happy with the current display, now this explains it all, it does not have MINILED!!! I´ve paid so much money for this laptop..
This.. ASUS is doing this not as a mistake, but because they know that they can get away with it (most people have busy lives they don't have time to spend weeks figuring out why the monitor looks disappointing). And yet I get 1 comment per day saying "this has nothing to do with Asus this is just that you as an individual was too lazy to research before buying"
@@NiberspaceNever thought that I would need to spend weeks researching all the terms for Asus Rog PC’s. I mean why would they call Nebula Display AND Nebula Display HDR, honestly I bought the 2024 model as everyone was saying it has the MiniLed, and 2023 only some of them. I will contact the seller tomorrow, as the video on the website was showing it had Nebula HDR display. They don’t have a video for the 2024 Scar IPS display do they? It’s all advertised as having MiniLED!!
In Switzerland they don't even sell the Scar RTX 4090 with miniLED Display. Asus listed only the RTX4080 with miniLED. But on the swiss Website of Asus they write and promote only about RTX4090 and miniLED
@@michelzollinger6447 I also can’t find the 4090 with miniled in stock, they used to sell but only in 18’’ not 16’. Anyways, I’m still very happy with the Laptop. I didn’t return it because I don’t like the MSI variant or Lenovo, and in Europe it’s very hard to get Alienware, otherwise that would have been my first choice.
Some people might say in the grand scheme of things, HDR doesn't really matter to them or whatever. No big deal. But I agree with you it's beside the point. It's the practice. The point is the ethics and the honesty, or lack thereof, being shown by Asus. This is the kind of practice that a company could, and probably should, get sued for. Laptops ain't cheap. You better be getting what you're paying for. False advertising to me = theft.
Big tech(s) with reputable and prestigious brand image can do whatever they want to consumers. Maybe they will blink if it is an order of thousands of units from a company/university. Other than that, don't even try.
My gut feeling tells me that Asus will just be more careful next time and sell worse laptops in regions where there aren't that many non-paid independent reviewers - countries where there aren't enough voice to cause any issues.
In Asus' site you can actually tell which model has IPS vs Mini LED ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2023) G634 G634JZ-N4003W -> IPS Screen (N4003) G634JZ-NM041W -> Mini LED (NM041)
i just received my first gaming laptop today. When I was shopping around, I noticed that it was confusing. So many variations. What I learned was that I had to pay attention to the full model number and check the specs at the Asus Rog site. There, I would see exactly what I was getting. I would blame the seller for describing it incorrectly cause its really not that difficult to search the model number and see exactly what youre getting. The seller probably did that on purpose, to increase sales.
Nope. We got screwed here in America as well. The only reason why I'm keeping mine is because I got it for $1,700 at Best Buy. Open Box sale during the Thanksgiving Christmas holidays and the Laptop was in mint condition. My power brick still had the plastic on it and no screen bleed. The screen is NOT HDR. Only Dolby Vision for media viewing. Not games. I had no idea when purchasing due to the advertising. To make things worse I installed a 4tb secondary Nvme drive along with 64gb of 5600mhz DDR5 and found out about the screen afterwards. LOL! That's my fault but I was still bummed. Right now I'm searching for a MOD that can emulate HDR for non HDR screens. The 4080 is nice but I wish my screen colors popped more with better black levels.
Oh wow that price sounds amazing, so I agree with your choice to keep it, assuming that you either don't have the GPU whine noise issue or that you can live with it. Trying to emulate HDR sounds like a horrible idea tho, but maybe I've missunderstood what you mean. I think you'll just have to use it with an external HDR miniLED monitor
Thank you for the review. Your are totally right. There would be many people that got scammed Hope this video raise awareness to Asus and maybe other companies as well.
Always check the NITS brightness specs, because they'll be different. 1100 NITS means miniLED monitor. 500 NITS means regular IPS display. Nebula marketing ploy is shady for sure, because they're purposefully calling all their 2023 displays 'Nebula' to mislead consumers. But they cant lie about the actual specs of the machine inside the box
1100 NITS of brightness only works in HDR profile and only to some specific areas where the image or video output is very bright. Let’s say the moon in the dark sky. Depending on how much area is covered by the moon on the whole screen the brightness will increase. If the moon is visible on the whole screen then the brightness from the moon would be around. 400-500 nits. But if the moon is visible only in an inch square area of the screen then it might give you upto 1100 nits. That’s why it is called HDR 1000, because it works only while using HDR mode. Not whole screen will give 1100 nits of brightness. The screen only gives power to a specific area where the colour range is at brightest to provide dynamic range between brighter and darker areas.
Same. Asus Screen issue. Service center guys had me change 4 screens, out of warrenty so paid for first one only. But then still issue persists. Laptop screen going completely berserk. Proper old age White and Black spotty flickering continuously.
Back in 2007 I bought ASUS parts for a new PC I was building, because I heard good theings about ASUS. I even went and bought a 17" ASUS laptop to game on when I travelled. All those parts and the laptop were great and they lasted me so many years without problems. In 2020 I bought an ASUS A15 from a guy and wondered why he hadn't kept the laptop longer than a few months. Then I saw the screen and saw how just awful it is. I kept the laptop but gamed mostly on my main PC anyway. Later I moved and needed a new laptop and bought a 2022 A15 and noticed that the build quality had become even worse than the 2020 A15. The new screen was much much better though and the specs were ok, so I kept it. After 4 months of light gaming the screen just turned off while I was typing on the laptop. Hard reset didn't help so now I have packaged it up and sending it in for repair, but after seeing your video, I am now afraid I will only get it back next year! Writing this in August 2023. Bought the laptop in April... Military grade build quality as ASUS write? Yeah right!
Regarding the coil whine, I have heard that some current gen GPU's are pretty bad in that regard and my ancient 980 Ti in my desktop does it as well, but I never witnessed a card that is THIS loud lol. I can hear the 3080 Ti in my Zephyrus M16 too, but it's very quiet. Definitely a not acceptable defect.
Im from Estonia (EU) and the stores selling x16 have nebula hdr displays (4060). Asus page for this model says "ROG Nebula Display - 16" Mini LED 240Hz 16:10"
I used to be 'almost' Asus exclusive, for PC components, and if in the market, I probably would have been into their Laptops too. (Thank god Lenovo had a sale when I was buying my Legion5 ) Then, out of the blue. I switched to MSI, for my last build, and all of a sudden all of the ASUS issues started popping up. I still think Asus makes the best physical stuff, it's just their handling of problems, and fibbing over details like the details in their displays. Got to give them credit , Consistency between Asus and Asus ROG (technically separate companies)
Clarification, "I still think Asus makes the best physical stuff" should be, "I think Asus has the ability to make some of the best stuff, the lower the price is though, the more, 'buyer beware' needs to be heeded. (although that is a general truth among all brands)

Asus web site has all configurations. So when you are gonna buy a PC always check from there. Don't trust retailers.
In my country Amazon has that webpage saying Mini LED but when I checked the details page in Flipkart they said it is IPS, however the same thing in the computer images said Mini LED.
You could also talk about the failure rate of ROG laptops because they're using components which are a fraction of a cent cheaper than higher quality ones. Ask Northridgefix about his experiences with ASUS lappies.
Oh god.. yes, that and the repair service that caused more damage than it repaired for me.. and the battery connector that just said goodbye by unplugging it for the 3rd time ever, the way it is intendet to unplug...
I heard the coil whine is in the other strix/scars also. Very common for a line that costs over $5k aud.. think my option is either to splash more w8th razer or settle for less with alienware for the 18" size I'm looking for
This is so atrocious and absolutely unacceptable. People earn and save money so that they can get their dream setup, and then they realize that they have been scammed!
Mobile market do the same shit for decades. Samsung phones shipped with snapdragon only shipped to USA and china while rest are shipped with shitty cpu which I forget it’s name
that "depends on a region" makes me so mad. Same story was with keyboard backlighting and type c port on my Dell G3 3579. All reviews had them, even promo photos on the page I ordered it from had them, and the laptop I ordered didn't have them.
oh rly? People have told me that "many brands does this" but so far no one has given me a single example that is of significance, but what you mentioned of USB-C port is a good example
@@Niberspace well, keyboard backlighting meant a lot to me, as I never had it before but always wanted to, so they screwed me up there as well. If you watch video reviews on that laptop(even cheapest versions) they all have keyboard backlighting.
Thank you for your calm breakdown experience of this device. I am getting skeptical of asus QA as well lately just my personal experience i have a TUF laptop and the thing broke down twice before the warranty 1. The screen started glitching on 144 Hz 2. It suddenly shut down even on idle states fast forward. the warranty expired, exactly a week the laptop wouldn't turn on, its dead had to service it and pay it with my own money since i dont really want to buy in the current laptop market (overpriced and neglible raw performance uplift) even if the screen is terrible i bear with it as it is my travel laptop for work and entertainment. oh btw i have an ROG pugio 2 mouse too. imagine a mouse costing 80 USD and the first thing i never expected to break was the 2.4Ghz dongle. First time ever that thing broke for me after owning a ton of expensive logitechs and random mouse brands
About a year ago I bought an Asus ROG Flow x16 (2022 model, with 3070ti). Asus had promised USB4 by December 2022, and I bought it with that understanding in the hopes of getting a USB4 dock to connect everything. They _still_ have not released it for the 2022 model. They have an older beta BIOS for it, and have had for a long time, but still no official support. The two times I've tried to contact them about it I've received no response. Edit: American customer here - they don't have any problem lying to us either
yes, it's happen in indonesia too, they send mini led screen to reviewer but only sell regular ips panel. in G14 also there's problem for the highest spec they only have black color, but reviewer have white color with highest spec
That's what spec sheets are for, on Asus website I see the configurations clearly laid out. There are codes for each configuration to differentiate them. This practice is super old and super common. As far as I understand Asus doesn't have eshops in most countries, they sell to third parties who sell to users. It is those third parties that choose the configuration to sell for their region, and it is those third parties that list the configurations on their website or store, not Asus. Most Laptop manufacturers do this. It sucks that you didn't get the configuration you wanted, but you are responsible to check what you are buying. With that said you are absolutely in your right to complain about sellers who don't list the correct specs or not the complete specs.
this is sad to hear, Ive own my 2060 115w form asus for 3 yrs now and dont have any problems with it the srgb is 100% and unlike the alienware brand taht I had before that suffered bleeding there is no bleeding on the screen on the unit that I got. man , its so true. I brought ROGFlow z13 . two times motherboard replaced. forced bios induced power throttling of 22w, other part also changed. took around 15 services request in 1 year
Does the Asus Strix laptop have that rubberized coating on the area where you rust your hands? My old Lenovo had that rubberized coating that started to scratch off.
In my country NZ we have CGA law that allows us to still get manufacture defects repaired for free even after warranty "within reasonible time", I hope your country has something similar
I sadly have to agree. Bought one and they had an issue with the battery back swelling. Refused to fix it or replace it so I ended up with a laptop that has to be plugged constantly.
Living overseas (I'm a dual national) it's well know that the best stuff goes to the USA. When I lived in SE Asia for a while, I noticed all (and I mean 100%) of "new" items sold had defects, including and especially "new cars", which led me to believe that all the 'rejected' US goods were resold in developing countries. South Europe is similar, but the quality is much better. This place looks like northern Europe so I assume quality is higher still, but like Niberspace says, the best stuff seems to head to the USA.
Wow yeah that SEA example is at a whole other ballpark than my New Zealand example. At least I don't think they are sending rejects to NZ, I think they're just using lesser specs (tho the coilwhine I have no explanation for)
I had this same issue with the Acer Helios 18, even in the online store page it says mini LED screen, so u click buy, and when you receive it, it’s a standard IPS panel! Never triggered a return so fast 💨
Outrageous, especially considering that the average consumer (who's never seen a miniLED) won't be able to know that they've been scammed. What country was that?
I have ordered the same laptop with 4090 and expecting to receive it in 3-4 days. Though I am aware of coil whine but fake mini LED, I can’t accept. I am from India and ordered the laptop from official Asus website. Will update the chat once I have the product in hand.
@@ananttomar1865 there are 2 models of scar with RTX 4080. Make sure you buy the model which has “NM” in the model name because it is the one with mini LED. The model with N4 in its model name doesn’t have Mini LED.
That's not even "coil whine" at that point, more like "coil scream". Literally sounds like something is arcing inside the laptop. Between that and people complaining about serious "backlight bleeding", I would avoid these like the plague.
Haha agreed, someone needs to coin a new word because it sounds nothing like a high pitched whine. Yeah I showed the IPS glow somewhere in this video as well (tho should have shown it immidiately instead of talking so much)
I bought the ROG Flow x16 2023. It's a $3000 machine. The trackpad was lose. Display looked yellow from how poorly it was calibrated. ICC profiles it came with don't work on most games. The display wobbles. The Mini-Led blooming is extremely noticeable. The entire chassis is bent, including the display segment, making it look pinched and with "backlight bleed" (even though that shouldn't be possible with mini-led). The little rubber supports fell off. Thermal paste on the GPU was dry and gone, along with whatever material was used for the vrms. The liquid metal was all over the place on the cpu. Or rather NOT on the cpu. The temperature was obviously terrible. 95c when playing anything. The speakers are a joke especially considering the g14 has 6 of them and is $1000 less. The keyboard is backlit with no per key rgb. The space bar is lower from the right side of it than the left from use, even though that should never happen. The XGM port is proprietary and cannot be used with any external gpu, it is exclusive to the horrendously over priced dock with a laptop GPU. These are just the things from the top of my head. Remember, $3000. edit: Coil whine too.
Wow. The main takeaway there for me personally is that it sounds like EVEN if I had gotten the miniLED version I would still be dissatisfied with the monitor. I'm just curious are you 100% sure that you really did get a miniLED and wasn't just scammed like me? because (as you said) the backlight bleeding sounds very IPS
@@Niberspace it's so funny. Tried getting 2024 model, holys** the random high pitch noises that was coming off of that thing (as soon as you boot, not even coil whine)... it's bad. Like do they seriously not turn these things on in the factory...
HP do the same thing! In the US, most HP "business" laptops get beautiful 500nit 100% sRGB panels, while in the UK they sell the same laptop with 250nit panels with 45% NTSC (and the same laptop is also more expensive in the UK). This is one of the reasons why I never buy HP laptops any more.
@@Niberspace Lenovo were pretty bad a few years back - it was literally a lottery. I used to order ThinkPads for new employees - I'd sometimes order the same laptop a couple of weeks apart, one would come with a gorgeous IPS display, another would come with a TFT panel (which you'd have to be sitting straight in front of in order to see anything on the screen). Lenovo are much better these days - they clearly give you the option to choose which panel you want now (and charge you accordingly).
Ok now Im concerned. Just bought the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 from PBTech, and they also list that it has the Nebula HDR. Waiting for the laptop to get to my local store here in Auckland. Now wondering if i should cancel this
Hmm good question, PBtech (where I also ordered from) did admit their mistake and corrected the sales page that I ordered from, so IF they are still making the same "mistake" then I would lose my trust in them. But hopefully it simply means that the model you've ordered is actually the correct miniLED version (that one didn't exist in 2023 in NZ, but possibly does now in 2024). So hopefully the only thing you'll have to worry about are the coil whine and other such issues but not the miniLED issue
@@Niberspace thanks. It's doing the first charge right now, so will see if I have those issues once I start it up. They advertise oled withthis that processor and buying options doesnt even shows that spec. which confuses buyer. Recently I have just ordered zenbook 14 with 4k oled panel as advertised and end up getting 2.8k oled(which is great panel but not what I had ordered).
God it’s so confusing. I want a this laptop but I want the one with the transparent key caps, the touch pad numpad and the mini led hdr display. Does this combination of features even exist or is it just a complete luck of the draw?
What i can see when checking official page for nebula display there is no statement that Nebula Display or Nebula Display HDR has mini LED, secondly the sticker you got on your laptop has 2 QR codes, 1 for HDR and one for non HDR i would guess, so instead of Asus printing different stickers they printed 1 design and used same sticker design on laptops with Nebula Display HDR and ones without HDR. Seen some manufacture do this to save on cost for printing.
This is from ASUS official page "Our Nebula HDR Displays feature advanced Mini LED backlighting". As for the sticker, it's a different sticker for the one that has the HDR, so I don't think there's any excuse for them to put the word HDR on this one (other than to intentionally misslead, knowing that must people don't know the difference), one other commenter said that the HDR thing seems to be an advertisement for their HDR laptop or something
@Niberspace exactly that page says nothing about mini LED. When I use search function on page I get 0 results of 0 when searching for mini LED. And difference it shows there does not even state mini LED on HDR panel as well. But I have seen videos where they claim only scar 16 has got mini LED
Oh that's interesting! I can 100% confirm that that link says Mini LED for me (in the middle of the page, and it's searchable), so I guess the page must be reacting differently for different regions. I'm viewing it from New Zealand@@tseyksuli4541

hey i Commented this , you're not alone Asus is the biggest Scam ever, i bought a ROG Strix G15 2070super, and man I've had this piece of garbage for 2 years and I've been struggling with this laptop for 2 years, our country doesn't have good ASUS support so i took this laptop to repair shops more times than i can count, Recoil wine started to show after 1 year, processors getting too hot ( CPU&GPU above 85 celsius degrees ) , the metal thermal paste or whatever was not helping or wasn't applied correctly, the GPU-Fan blew up because of this heat, i changed it (i couldn't use the laptop for 2 months cause that's how long it took for the stock fans to arrive, and now after 2 months of changing it i already feel like the GPU fan is already getting busted like the last time) , aside from keeping away from ASUS, if you are a serious gamer , like you work with a laptop more than 3 h/day on average keep away from laptops in general, even if you assemble a pc , still stay away from Asus as a Brand . as long as they don't think up sth other than air cooled system for laptops , don't even get close to laptops for gaming , it has a short lifespan , it is a pain to maintain and expensive to repair , and you can't change any components (expect for Ram and memory) and it's overall a bad investment , PC all the way is the Master-Race of gaming !!!
Asus clearly differentiate between Nebula HDR and regular Nebula dispays on their website. At least on the promo video i saw. And the regular Nebula is still a very decient screen. The HDR is fitted to the high end scar only while the regular Nebula is fitted to the midrange strix. I also seen lower end G laptops without the Nebula display. About the fan noise theres not much you can do about it. From what i hear all gaming laptops suffer from it. But all things taken into account i still think the 2023 Asus G is the most cost effective gaming laptop there is
you think the 11:10 result is a decent monitor? who said anything about fan noise? Price efficiency might be another region thing, as in NZ the 5600 NZ$ price-tag is at the very top of high-end which would make sense for the miniLED version but not for the version that looks like a budget laptop

Dunedin. I bought from PbTech, which is pretty much the only serious retailer for this kind of stuff in NZ (tho dissapointing that they did this miniLED mistake, but ohwell at least they refunded me)
In my opinion and experience, older Asus products are much better in terms of reliability. I have an Asus G75VW from 2013 that still works with only the removable battery and GPU fan failing after 10 years. I also have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M15 from 2020 but it is constantly having issues, for example: The Armoury crate APP that controls most of the computer is constantly failing causing the fans to stop spinning and sometimes the rgb keyboard that it controls doesn't work. When i try to shut it down and unplug it, it will sometimes pretend and then go into sleep mode and turn back on and drain the battery. Never had this problem with any other laptop i've owned. It honestly wasn't worth the money but i wanted something that was a bit powerful than my previous laptop. Might stay away from Asus entirely after seeing this video and what company they are today.
That is disappointing to hear. If you have different models for different regions that is one thing. At least advertise that on your website. Don’t fool people into believing that they’re buying a completely high end machine when in reality you have literally pulled a bait and switch on them. I purchased the Alienware M18 R1 instead fully kitted out, mostly because I think Dell’s customer service is top notch in the tech space. But also all the other laptops like the Scar 18, MSI Titan, and others were really overpriced and I didn’t think their customer service could be trusted. Great Vid buddy
Always double check the model number from the retail site and compare it with the one on the manufacturer's site, often times it's the retailers who mistakenly add wrong information.

I have hope for Framework laptop. Big techs have too big brand image and fans, impossible to criticize them. Framework is still a small company but with such a beautiful vision. Framework need to strive as a brand so as of now they seem to do fairly good quality control. Who knows if they grow big later. But I do hope they thrive. The level of scam at Asus is insane! 13 000 Cinebench in 2023 that's fraud
@@Niberspace Well, you can have a look at clevo/tong fang laptops. They too have upgradble components. Also, framework laptops are limited to 100w GPU's, which is not a whole lot on gaming laptops. I do have hope for them but right now, they're years behind on the value proposition.
It's just a matter of being very attentive to the specific model number they're very transparent about it on their website and they offer to compare in their website.
Hi Niberspace, maybe I have material for you too. I am just experiencing the same problem with ASUS. I‘ve ordered a M16 Zephyrus, whenever I‘ve shutdown the system I‘ve got some fatal error reports - it seemed a hardware problem by RAM. So I‘ve sent it back and received my money, but since I gave them a second chance and ordered the similar system. Now it’s an issue again, I‘ve ordered it by their own website/store, but received the system in a damaged box. After opening it, the inside was very cold and started to humidify cause of my room temperature. Also signs of usage like a bad wiped screen and touchpad is visible. I am very frustrated right now, have contacted the company and forwarded the issue with footage as videos. I hope they have got the right solution this time.
I also bought an entry level asus g14 that listed the Rog Nebula display and returned it when I learned that only the Rog Nebula HDR is the mini led. Confusing feature naming.
Im in the U.S, I've returned 2 of the asus rog strix G18's.. first model had bad light bleed in the left top corner. It was so bad it washed out colors. So i returned it and got another.. the second unit was even worse all four corners had light bleed, and when attempting to download a game from steam it kept restarting.. i just gave up.. have an alienware m18 now and im very pleased, no complaints..
WOW! Did you see the part of this video where I showed my screen? I would be very curious if my screen is identical to that last one you had, because all 4 corners looks terrible, and that was the case on both of my units. Interesting that Alienware is good, does it charge from USB-C?
No it doesn't, that's one of the bad parts of the m series it's ships with the brick power supply, go8ng to invest in the slim power bank should make everything alot better as far as moving it around or traveling.. and yes I took pictures ill see if I can post them..
Yes and that's pretty much how mine looked. Now I'm waiting on the asus ally and everyone's having a bad experience with it so far. ASUS is really falling apart..
@@swaggkuconspiracies7649 oh you went with ASUS again? I'm surprised, as you say it feels very obivous they are falling apart. it wouldn't surprise me if they are intentionally trying to send out a bunch of scams before filing for bankruptcy (as then people won't be able to return their products)
They must get bad batches of fans on a regular basis... My 5 year old Zephyrus had that exact fan noise and I fixed it myself finally by changing the fan from one I ordered off Amazon. No noise since. I also re-pasted the CPU and got 10 degree temp drops while gaming.
the noise isn't coming from the fan tho. However technically you might argue that a bad fan is interfearing with the electricity of the unit which causes the GPU to whine, but that may be a bit far fetched
@@Niberspace Maybe I was hearing something different. The noise I had really sounded like a poor bearing causing a fan to be out of balance. Changing the fan completely fixed it. Not sure if something different as going on though.
@@saigudbai ah ok. Well the coil whine from the GPU actually does sound oddly enough like a fan issue, but in your case maybe it was actually actually the fan
Hey, I am seriously considering the Asus P16 ProArt however I am reading everywhere their support is terrible in regards to warrenty issues should something go wrong. Is this true from New Zealand also or is this just an issue with the US? I would be buying either direct from ASUS if possible or from PBT . Thank you kindly in advance.
I'm afraid I don't know since I just sent it back to PBtech and let them handle that stuff so I've never dealt with Asus directly, and after this laptop I've stayed well clear of any future ASUS products so hopefully I'll never find out.
Laptops ain't cheap. i just received my first gaming laptop today.
Sure, but then when you look at let's say a UA-cam review it might not be clear if they are reviewing the same specs or a different model number
@Niberspace Yes you're right. That is probably my best option.
I’ve seen someone do a screen swap on their 18 to get the mini led panel.
Indeed, mine said 1100, but the color calibrator I borrowed measured 400
You’d have to be an idiot to not know one is “HDR” aka mini led and one is not.

I don't quite understand but feeling calm from the waves
Came for a tech roast, stayed for the waves.
What's was the screen resolution in pixels? You probably bought the 1920x1200 non-hdr panel simply
i can't remember, I sent that back over a year ago and haven't even glanced at ASUS stuff since
@@Niberspace it's so funny. Tried getting 2024 model, holys** the random high pitch noises that was coming off of that thing (as soon as you boot, not even coil whine)... it's bad. Like do they seriously not turn these things on in the factory...
Needed to triple check and maybe more the exact specs with the Sales Manager, Advertisement , Official Company. locally... and not...
Wow first real example of non-ASUS doing this BS. That's shocking, 45% NTSC wow that's ridicolously low
I noticed that the one PBTEch listed is the RTX 4080, but every review I find online has the ROG Strix Scar 18 as 4090, no reviews on the 4080 at all. For the price I am REALLY hoping there are no issues.
@@zebstitches "ROG Strix Scar 18" by itself won't tell you much about the specs, it's all about the exact model name ID which will allow you to look up the exact specs on ASUS official website. In the US, models marked Rog Nebula HDR are mini LED versions 4080/4090 rtx, also available in other European Union markets.
v tom aby se prase vyznalo. I was about to buy the ROG Strix 18 (not scar), as an upgrade for my 2019 ROG strix 17. I wasn't really aware that the difference between the nebula and nebula hdr is apparently so huge.

@@Fordance100 very helpful, thanks!!!
Why is it that only you mentioned this issue?
I'm guessing ASUS sends out laptops to big reviewers and for that they send the good ones. For the remaining small UA-camrs I'm guessing most of them are US-based which seems to be the region that get the better ones.
@@Niberspace I hope this speculation will be confirmed soon. I'm really tempted to buy this model, but your video is making me hesitate.
What are you refering to specifically? The lack of MiniLED or the coil whine? Because the lack of MiniLED you should be able to confirm by putting the exact model number into their official website@@jony1661
@@Niberspace I'm talking about the lack of a MiniLED display.
This is the model I can purchase at my country:
Asus ROG Strix SCAR 16 G634JZ-N4016

Bought an ROG Strix G17 1 month ago and just send it back to the seller as well. It had screen bleed that was very obvious from 1 corner only. But about once a week it had the blue screen of death... I'm really confused to what laptop I should get now...
Ouch. Maybe Framework if it's avail in your country. it's not avail in my country so I can't say from experience

What laptop did you end up buying instead?
I'm ashamed to say it but I tried a Macbook instead as it was the only computer I could find locally that had miniLED. hoping to get back to a PC laptop if the market improves next year.
@@Niberspace Having Mini led was a requirement?
Why not get 4k oled on other windows laptops
In my case I'm planning to use a external monitor so the display quality of the laptop doesn't bother me as long is not trash like in your video.
Yes, I have an external OLED that I use for some things (high framerate stuff, or where blacklevels are crucial), but I definitely wouldn't want to look at an OLED all day, I jsut don't find them comfortable for the eyes @@LazerB.
@@Niberspace Mine instead is a "Qled" true glossy monitor.
I've tried a Oled LG monitor and yeah they are very harsh to the eyes, so I ended up returning it and keeping the "Qled".
But I gotta say, for some weird reason Oled on TV is a different story... Or at least With my Panasonic model, it's the harmless thing I've got in comparison. On everything else, monitors, laptops, tablets, phones...hits harder.
Now getting back to mini Led laptops, I suggest you to look for the new MSI Titan 18... Supposedly has a good screen this year
Are you sure it's not just that on the TV you were viewing video while on the monitor you were viewing text? one reason why OLEDs give headaches is because the different colors are slightly apart, but you only notice it with sharp text, not in movies@@LazerB.
What game is that at 5:22 ?
I'm watching this on a Scar 17 and when he tried putting the fan closer I literally couldn't hear it over the fan noise of my laptop. I'm only browsing youtube....
oh that wasn't the fannoise, I was showing the coil whine from the GPU. but still, lol
Totally agree with you. Their website is full of contradictory specs. On one page they mention 2.8k oled panel, sometimes buying option only shows 1080p. They advertise oled withthis that processor and buying options doesnt even shows that spec. which confuses buyer. Recently I have just ordered zenbook 14 with 4k oled panel as advertised and end up getting 2.8k oled(which is great panel but not what I had ordered).
Is not just ASUS, all Brands have problems with the new scrape Products!
God it’s so confusing. I want a this laptop but I want the one with the transparent key caps, the touch pad numpad and the mini led hdr display. Does this combination of features even exist or is it just a complete luck of the draw?
hmm mine had the touchscreen touch pads, never heard of transparent key caps.
@@Niberspace i checked official page as well but there it does not mention any mini leds.

Oh that's interesting! I can 100% confirm that that link says Mini LED for me (in the middle of the page, and it's searchable), so I guess the page must be reacting differently for different regions. I'm viewing it from New Zealand@@tseyksuli4541
That coil whine really seems quite loud. My Legion laptop has bit of coil whine in certain games, but one has to be in a quiet room and listen closely to hear it.

In just a month, my Rog Strix G16 ran into problems, and despite my efforts to get it replaced, Asus is turning down my request. It's been incredibly frustrating, leading me to the decision of not choosing Asus for any future purchases. I really wish I had come across your video before making this purchase.
hey i Commented this , you're not alone Asus is the biggest Scam ever, i bought a ROG Strix G15 2070super, and man I've had this piece of garbage for 2 years and I've been struggling with this laptop for 2 years, our country doesn't have good ASUS support so i took this laptop to repair shops more times than i can count, Recoil wine started to show after 1 year, processors getting too hot ( CPU&GPU above 85 celsius degrees ) , the metal thermal paste or whatever was not helping or wasn't applied correctly, the GPU-Fan blew up because of this heat, i changed it (i couldn't use the laptop for 2 months cause that's how long it took for the stock fans to arrive, and now after 2 months of changing it i already feel like the GPU fan is already getting busted like the last time) , aside from keeping away from ASUS, if you are a serious gamer , like you work with a laptop more than 3 h/day on average keep away from laptops in general, even if you assemble a pc , still stay away from Asus as a Brand . as long as they don't think up sth other than air cooled system for laptops , don't even get close to laptops for gaming , it has a short lifespan , it is a pain to maintain and expensive to repair , and you can't change any components (expect for Ram and memory) and it's overall a bad investment , PC all the way is the Master-Race of gaming !!!
The backlight bleed is horrible for this price range of a laptop Asus needs to get their S together

All gaming laptops suffer from it?. LOL You have heard wrong things.
This might help but I heard you need to use the other charger and not the usb-c if you're looking for maximum performance. Still very upsetting to hear since I was looking into getting this model in Canada

G16 is a lower quality product. There is no Asus Strix SCAR G16; it's either the Strix SCAR 16 or Strix G16. The SCAR has the Nebula HDR display.
Its pretty simple going to the manufacturer website for your region and looking at specifications for the model you want. Its all there.

Where are you In New Zealand? North Island or South ? I am guessing you purchased from JB Hi Fi ?

I'm afraid I'm no expert on this brand at all, after returning the laptop a year ago I haven't even looked in ASUS direction again

I hope they have got the right solution this time.
well doesn't sound like the same problem but for sure i'm not gonna go ASUS again. People seem to be recommending Lenovo and Alienware
it seems like stickers mismatch the actual specs of the laptop, check the settings in your laptop to make sure you got the right specs

Lol, yeah just wanted to experience the handheld, hopefully it's not as bad as there laptops. Fingers crossed 🤞
You're right, the quality of Asus laptops in Europe is very poor. I also bought a Strix G15 and was surprised to see how much Asus has declined.
