Thank you so much for this useful technique. Due to some physical problems, I have trouble shuttle tatting and needle tatting is much easier for me. I've been working to perfect various techniques, and since I'm very concerned with the appearance of the finished work, I was thrilled to find an explanation of this technique that is not only straight forward and easy to understand, but results in a much better looking finished piece than the "two chains" method. Thank you again.
Hi an Thank you for watching. If you would like to learn some other techniques or refresh something you already know I also make the videos for Georgia Seitz online classes. Thank You so much, I was having difficulty doing this Onion ring from pictures in a book , now I understand what to do without fighting with the thread, I almost gave up on ever using this technique
This is great - I've always been frustrated by that dimple look. Thank you so much. Question - on your technique, if I want more than two rings in my onion - how do I join additional rings as there is no picot at the top?
+Barbara Fidler Are you using the ball thread to attach to the picot and pulling the needle thru that loop or are you pulling it thru the loop at the bottom before finishing the other side. I am not really understanding your question I believe. If you have more info to share about what exactly your doing I can hopefully help you thru the problem. Happy Tatting
Kate Kyi Hi Kate. Thank you for watching. When you do front side back side tatting in the onion ring do a down join it should prevent the dimple. A down join is when your thread is pulled from the top of the picot down thru the picot then the join is made. I hope that helps you. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. I do want to let you know I am doing a new series of videos to go along with the new needle tatting class that Georgia Seitz sponsors. As soon as all the kinks are worked out I will be adding the links to the classes as well as the new videos. I hope you will join us. Happy Tatting
Beginning Tatting Video Series Im a beginner of about a week. I have learnt a lot from watching your beginners series. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. My main problem now is converting shuttle tatting patterns into needle tatting but I am sure I will get there.
Kate Kyi Hi Kate, there really isn't a difference between shuttle tatting and needle tatting. It is mainly the terms that are confusing. The few differences right off the top of my head is the self closing mock ring or mock ring as some call it. Needle tatters use this on every ring unless they are making a true ring which is a very uncommon technique in needle tatting, The shoelace trick is the knot needle tatters make after each element before they turn the work. Turn the work is another double technique but is it done differently for shuttle tatters. When doing a pattern that is written for shuttle remember the double stitch count is the same the picots are the same. needle tatters do not reverse work they turn the work when going from one element to the next, ie. ring to chain and chain to ring. The joins are the same in both needle and shuttle. when it calls for 2 shuttles for a pattern your using the needle and the ball thread. the ball thread would be considered the second shuttle for shuttle tatters. Here is a link to the terms used in tatting and the explanation of each.www.georgiaseitz.com/ptgtatterms.pdf If you should run across a term that your unsure of just ask I can explain it for you in needle terms. Happy Tatting
