Kaye is such a fantastic teacher! Thank you so much. You have a gift with your skill and methods. You have made things so much easier to understand. I have had many questions answered. Thank you!!
Your tutotial of needle tatting is clear and easy to understand, thank you. Have done years ago, but forgotten, now want to start again. Been looking for someone to explain. Thank you for sharing.
I want to thank you for introduction to needle tatting, I learned to tat with shuttle. My teacher was 95 years old. I will be teach tatting at my local library. thanks again. Ileen
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been a shuttle tatter for almost 50 years. Decided to try needle tatting for the sake of adding beads more easily. Been pulling my hair out at not being able to accomplish a simple ring! Other instructions don't include the loop. I am now a very happy camper and have bookmarked your page!
Thank you very much for the outstanding tutorial. I attempted numerous times to do shuttle tatting and gave up. I also like how you shoe wrapping the thread around the index finger only rather than alternating between the thumb and index finger. It is SO much easier! Thank you again!
I gotta say this us both simpler and harder than I thought it was going to be. I'm using a big Ole embroidery needle and some scrap yarn to learn this. Thank you so much for posting this great tutorial ♡♡♡
Hi Sarah! You really should use a tatting needle; most regular needles have eyes that are larger than the diameter of the needle, and you need to be able to slide your stitches off over the eye. The eyes in tatting needles are the same diameter as the needle. You can get tatting needles off of my website, www.tattingcorner.com :)
I've been cross-stitching for nearly a year now, and I wanted a hobby which requires less materials that I can do anywhere - so, since I'm familiar with needles, I thought I'd give needle tatting a go! These tutorials are excellent; I couldn't follow the book I bought at all, so it was great to see you doing it physically. Thank you!
Thanks so much for your very clear instructions and demonstration! I am learning this skill with the hope to repair a tatting edge on a set of pillowcases. Who knows what I will learn to do after that?! This is definitely a learning curve 😂
Thank you for your video's! Out of all the videos and directions, yours were the easiest for me to understand and also watch. Its especially great that you have a view of your hands that can allow the viewer complete view if your hands! I've been having a hard time with some areas but the way you both show iggt and explain it makes it 100× easier to follow. 👍👍way up to you!! Thank you again!
thank you so much for putting this online! I was able to research different lace techniques and look at all kinds of ways to make them on youtube. I settled on this style being a sturdy way to decorate clothes in my family. we are a farming family and i have small children, so having a lace that is sturdy and able to stand up to rough wear is much more preferable to something like bobbin lace that would just literally fall appart after hours of work. thanks so much!
I’ve wanted to learn how to do tatting for FOREVER! I always thought it would be too difficult to learn, but your clear and easy-to-follow videos have given me the courage to TRY! Thank you very much. Your work is just beautiful.😊💕
Hi Kaye, I love your teaching style, I was trying to remember how to needle tat after not doing it for a long time, your videos are clear and easy to understand. thanks for sharing this!
If like me you have never even known about needle tatting , let alone done any, then this is the best instruction you will find. I’m still trying to work this out and I’m wondering if it’s because I’m left handed.
I could not get the previous Loop to work! I don’t know why! Anyway i just did this one with you and ! Hurray! I got it! Thanks so much, i love your videos 😍
I’m confused, you say 4 double stitches after the picot but I count you doing three each time. Are you counting the double stitch of the picot as number 4?
Wow, you are great at this. I don't know why but I just couldn't work with the shuttle, it might be because I am left handed and all of the tutorials were right handed. I am going to buy a needle tomorrow and try your way. Thank you for the tutorial.
Hello, i realize its been 3 years since you commented on this. :) Did you figure out the shuttle tatting meantime? :D Basically tatting is working a knot over a core thread and arranging the knots into beautiful shapes. In Shuttle tatting you have to do "the flip" to be able to close a ring for example. So you need to play with the tension of the thread in order to "reverse" the knot in a way that the thread going into the shuttle will become the core thread and the thread on the ring will form the knots. You dont have to do this in needle tatting because you are casting on the needle so you dont have to worry about tension :)
I am a shuttle tatter. I would love to learn the needle tatting version also. My question is - How much thread length should I leave at the beginning of the work? Thank you for posting this video.
I love your video! I started needle tatting with a yarn needle until I was able to get actual tatting needles. Now i just have a question of how do I start a second row? I've done several single rows of rings and chains until I was confident enough I could do so with out a video. Now I'm curious to see how you start a second row so I can continue my project!
i started shuttle tatting 2 years ago and while i absolutely love it i feel like challenging myself and teaching myself needle tatting (i already taught myself leftie shuttle tatting after i got the hang of tatting with my dominant right hand lol). my question is can you do the same techniques as in shuttle tatting eg split rings, thrown rings, etc. ta
Wow!! Again!! This video I will have to view many times......but I'm excited to try! After you have done these circles and chains, what or where would you catch this LONG piece of tatting to include in a cuff or bias band t the neck of a little girls dress?? Thanks for any insight!
i love what u do .even as a lefty i can make it work. thank you so much, my only thing is i cannot figure out how to make my scend ring ,i try and try andtry, but still not workingwhen you mke your second circle, its real quick and i can't see to make it the left way. i know this is asking alot but is there a way you can just do a quick segment of that second ring . your forever thank you
How do you know how much thread to put in the loop to the right of your work? I've "guessed" wrong mostly either not leaving enough to finish my project OR so much that the thread keeps getting knotted and tangled. Help, please "I've practiced more than actually making anything cause I keep messing it up. Thank you!
Do you have a store we can order from you. Love your teaching style. Your Shuttle video helped me understand how to use it. However I think I am better off with needle tatting.
Wow, I've been on a crafting journey around the world since I searched for a lesson yesterday -learning about Irish lace from Ireland to Romania and then about tatting from Italy to Indiana!) THANK you for this excellent demonstration (and for being the first once I've been able to easily understand!) :) :) :) I currently live in Costa Rica -I don't know that I will be able to find the proper needles or shuttles here. Can I use something else? A crochet hook?
cemwalker the Handy Hands needle set is what I bought after I watched her intro video. It was her teaching style and her technique is what persuaded me to use the needle. I have bought a shuttle and the jury is still out on that verdict if on I like the shuttle. As of right now I am loving my needle.
Hi, i have question regarding tatting needles,i found some needles are 4" or 5" long,so is it better to have long needles or it is of length doesn't matter.and if it is important how long needles should be?
I really enjoyed your tatting needles tutorial would be nice to have some more. it was easy to follow you. I saw someone else video where the person join the picot with the loop and then doing all the double knots. Is it a correct method too???

Jenny, try playing the video to a mirror and watch it in the mirror, not on your device. That should reverse the actions for you.

Hello Kate
The best so far that I have seen for learning tatting
This method creates MOCK RINGS. If you cut one, it springs apart. True ring needle tatting is just like shuttle tatting.
