    Man, Derek is completely nuts. Using the Synth like a guitar with pedals and all, I love it! Super-cool! And killer-tone!!!

    I just love this guy, he's actually shredding the Nord synth like a guitar.

    He manages all the nuances typically restricted to stringed instruments, which is amazing for a keyboard player. One of my favorite musicians.

    • @einarabelc5
      @einarabelc5 7 років тому +1

      Stringed instruments cannot do polyphony, keyboards usually don't end well when trying to pick the nuances of strings, WHY does everyone tries to cross to the other side? They want ONE instrument to do EVERYTHING, Especially keyboards, this is why I waned off of DT.

    Cool! I also love his lead sound from his Korg Kronos!

    So bad ass, that's why I buy his records and enjoy his playing. That old school approach like Lord and his modern gear, that's why he has a distinct tone.

    Derek reminds me so much of the late Keith Emerson in terms of style and experimentation.

  • @LuoJun2
    @LuoJun2 Рік тому +2

    No matter how cool you’re rig is, first you have to know how to play. Derek is a musician first, and a gear god later. Best keyboard player since Keith Emerson.

    1:07 Funny how analytical and precise he *looked* while saying "there is a gritty ballsiness to the filter"! hehe

    Derek songwriting is phenomenon.. started listen to him from Falling into Infinity..still wander why he got axed from DT. Anyhow, that's good for him... he gets to experiment with many more different bands.

    Awesome stuff... although I still prefer his classic "Massive Lead" sound from the early Planet X days using I think the Korg Triton.

    Love it. Part Jon Lord, part Jan Hammer in terms of amps and pedals with the synths and organs. Totally appropriate for the kind of music he's making. I've always been a big fan of Derek's playing. He's a boss.

      Krisztián Take a look at his arms in the video - he's certainly not "Petrucci-huge", but he's got a ton of cut & definition... especially for a guy in his 50s!
