Did you at least get a chance to ask him what the fuck he's tuned to? Feels like it should be drop-B or B-standard, but then he's also playing high stuff like A=440 tuning, sooooo... maybe each neck is a different tuning?
Derek Sherinian is such a badass haha. I dig how he utilizes guitar gear along with his keyboards/organ and actually uses everything. Great RIGGED episode.
If he was a gold prospector, he'd be the guy pulling out a big nugget every time he dips his pan into the stream, making all the other prospectors jealous!
That Hammond really highlights D's approach. Very different from his DT replacement. I love the how it adds so much depth to the sound. Call me old fashioned. Lol
Derik is awesome I love jordan Rudess but Derik is so organic and raw in his playing and I love the fact that he is old school using a Hammond through Marshalls. Reminds me of Keith Emerson . hes awesome
Hollowox Hollowox "his work in DT is severely underated" Yeah, everyone seems to either have nostalgia for the 1st guy or is all about the technically-super-proficient Jordan Ruddess. I liked Kevin Moore, he fit really well. But Derek has balls and feel. Jordan just leaves me cold and bores me. Everything after Derek left DT pretty much sucks.
Came for Ron's rundown, mildly disappointed, but I'm hoping you get to it soon :) Also Derek's was hilarious. No explanation, just shred. Exactly what I expected.
9:20 wow one of the best b3’s I’ve heard!!! 10:40 mr Crowley revisited lol. It sounds so good. Then when he switched to the korg for synths he’s right on. Derek is one of the most underrated and versatile keyboard players!
Billy is one of my fav bassists ever. Has such an amazing rig, passion and knowledge of his instrument. Thats what i love and sents musicians that step higher for me- when its a love that they learn what makes it tick, how its built and all the ins and outs.
A few years ago Mike was in Allentown, Pa holding Court at a showcase where three or four bands were able to come in and perform on a Thursday night. Mike was off the road and came out to hang. What we got that night was exactly what you see in every video/interview/etc. He had no hassles treating every musician as an equal and every fan with respect. He even got up to sing with a couple of bands. Now, if I only had the money to hire him for my upcoming solo album...
Good stuff. Was at that show. Anaheim House of Blues. My good friend happened to be a High School friend of the lady Manger we ran into. She gave us a full tour of the facility after the show. If you look up to the left during Billy's rig there is a cool box up there with a stainless steel bin for ice and brews along with comfy sofas for VIPs 🤘🏼🍻
B-3. Derek misspoke when he first mentioned the Hammond. The C-3 does not have the spindle legs like the B-3. They are essentially the same organ, but the C-3 tended to be a bit more durable in live settings for some keyboardists. No spindle legs to fuss with. Jon Lord with Deep Purple and Keith Emerson of Emerson Lake & Palmer both used the C-3 live, mostly because they both were a bit brutal with their keyboards. Greg Rolie, who sang and played keyboards for Santana and Journey both, always chose to play a B-3 live. B-3s are much less roadie friendly. The spindle legs have to be babied getting them on and off stage. The C-3s don't have the spindle legs so far more roadie friendly. No babying the C-3s live. The one thing I thought of when Derek started shredding on that B-3? If Don Airey ever decides to retire as Deep Purple's keyboardist since Jon Lord retired (RIP, Jon)...Derek would be a perfect replacement.
Boy Aditya when they came to Puerto Rico at least, he was literally just plugged into a Helix. He was going out to a Marshall cab, but it wasn't mic'd, so we could hear the Marshall, but everyone else was just hearing the Helix, or at least that's my theory.
If I ever needed to sneak into some place that was guarded, I would absolutely use Billy Sheehan to distract them. Not only would he buy me more than enough time, but after they leave, those guards would be wiser men knowing more about bass gear.
Billy's such a great guy, can't believe he's 65.. and is the only scientologist that deserves respect, though hopefully he hasn't gotten his family into it
Excellent! I’m wondering what is the very nice Arabic strings sound he used at 11:13 with this the little loop at the end. Is it a sound that exists in the Kronos (factory) or did Derek create it ?
someone should make a headless double neck guitar, probably would make it much more balanced to wear on a strap...also, transformers sound at 13:54 wtf
I believe both necks are tuned differently so he doesn't need multiple basses in the set, or changing basses mid song to change what tuning he plays in
The upper neck certainly does not have a low B as some people stated in other YT Vid comments. Listening to this video I was under the impression it has the same tuning... which would not make a lot of sense.
honestly i think it's just an element of showmanship for him. The two necks may be tuned identically. With this band bumblefoot is playing a fretless/fretted double neck vigier, and in the past billy would also play along side paul gilbert and his double neck. I think he has two necks to mirror the other two necked players for those parts of the show.
That's some keyboard rig, never seen a keyboardist use stacks of guitar amps for distortion before, especially in this age of amp modelling. I bet guitarists are spitting teeth at that, thinking what a waste of good Engl amps lol.
I know, I know - where's Bumblefoot? Unfortunately, we didn't have time to get to the Bfoot's rig, hopefully another time we can get it.
Hopefully - her's freaking awesome!
😭😢😢😭
Im here for bumble foots gear :(
Right.
I love how Derek doesn't waste anyone's time, just plays his parts and goes "and there it is" :D
If he was a gold prospector, he'd be the guy pulling out a big nugget every time he dips his pan into the stream, making all the other prospectors jealous!
I love everything about this !
I'm a drummer,and a stagehand ...
and my thought is really derick touring a 1959 Hammond ?
Wow.
That Hammond really highlights D's approach. Very different from his DT replacement. I love the how it adds so much depth to the sound. Call me old fashioned. Lol
I just LOVE Billy Sheehan. He just comes off like a great and nice guy
Derik is awesome I love jordan Rudess but Derik is so organic and raw in his playing and I love the fact that he is old school using a Hammond through Marshalls. Reminds me of Keith Emerson . hes awesome
I got Jon Lord vibes from him, but yeah it was great
I love how aggressive of a keys player Derek is...it’s really refreshing
Billy Sheehan can be good college instructor. He explains clearly.
God damn Derek's an incredible keyboard player 🤯
Sure is. One of my favourites.
BLACK UTOPIA is one of the best metal albums ever made.
i am really blown away by the snippet of god of sun keypart and especially 11:07 . that's attention to detail . his work in DT is severely underated
Hollowox Hollowox
"his work in DT is severely underated"

The best and heaviest keyboardist ever. Sherinian rules above all. A truly virtuoso with attitude. 🤘🏻
Came for Ron's rundown, mildly disappointed, but I'm hoping you get to it soon :)

God damn that B3 sounds effing amazing through the Marshalls
I'd never seen Billy so talkative in any interview. So awesome!!
Really? It's pretty normal for him!
Pretty much all rig rundowns of Billy I've seen are like this.
Ok, that's one hell of a keys player... what a sound...
Came disappointing for not having Bumblefoot, left excited for Derek’s awesome rig... and yes, I’m a guitar player.
That C3 is bad ass through those Marshall's keeping the Jon Lorde legacy alive......
Drinking Challenge: Take a shot every time Billy said, "In the old days" throughout his rundown.
A few years ago Mike was in Allentown, Pa holding Court at a showcase where three or four bands were able to come in and perform on a Thursday night. Mike was off the road and came out to hang.

So cool. Derek tore it up in that demo. Killer sound
Derek's keyboard sounds like EVH's guitar...he's amazing.

GEEZ that B3 sounds INSANE
Should’ve named this video “Rigs of apollo”
wow Derek Sherinian...epic final solo is awesome!!!
In live videos it looks like Bumblefoot is using a Helix now too. Love the Helix. Sheehan knows his stuff with the audio gear.
That Hammond C3..Damn.
B-3. Derek misspoke when he first mentioned the Hammond.

Honestly I want to see Derek in Ghost lol. Hes such a great keyboardist. Damn.
aww man .... I was hoping for Ron's Rig Rundown ....
Boy Aditya when they came to Puerto Rico at least, he was literally just plugged into a Helix. He was going out to a Marshall cab, but it wasn't mic'd, so we could hear the Marshall, but everyone else was just hearing the Helix, or at least that's my theory.
bruhhhh that hammond was stoopid good
Derek's Is an amazing keybordist!!!!!!
Holy shit that Hammond sounded fucking awesome, I was getting major Jon Lord/Deep Purple vibes from it and I liked it
Am I really commenting first :/
Wish Mike had sat down and played some drums like Derek played keys and Billy played bass. Oh well.
this hammed sound kills me great rig Derek...awe backline boys....this rocks...
Listening to Billy is fascinating, could listen all day.
So glad I made a 5 hour round trip on a weeknight to see these guys in Cleveland. Totally worth it.
Billy is fucking intense. All these dudes shred. Thanks Gear Gods
Derik's tone is something else 😶
That's all coming through the lav mic on his shirt too hahahaha, standing next to it is mindblowing
Love these guys! They're such a nice group of talented and amazing people! Wish I could of seen Bumblefoot! 🤘❤❤
The "old" Hammond sounds amazing.
Where is Ron???
All of them are super rock starrss!!! Amazing!
Is that also what Derek used on the album?
Smart geeks for sure. Derrick seems like the madman behind it all. Quite impressive. Of course Billy and Mikey have become an awesome team.
@Mike Portnoy , why 12 and 13 inches for the main tomtoms? I really hated those sizes when I had no choice back in the days...
"Transustor" XD... Joke aside, Billy really knows his shit, I'm impressed! *clap clap*
He's talking about a speaker transducer ;)
It's the thing that wobbles the speaker.
Transducer IS the speaker. Transducer is a device that converts electrical energy into acoustical, the whole speaker.
One of my favorite bands!
Some of the best players in the world.
If I ever get stuck overnight in a lift with Sheehan, Vai and Soto, I swear to god the world would never look the same again by the morning.
If I ever needed to sneak into some place that was guarded, I would absolutely use Billy Sheehan to distract them. Not only would he buy me more than enough time, but after they leave, those guards would be wiser men knowing more about bass gear.
I've been waiting! Thank you!
Derick is the shit!
Keyboard guy is pretty good.
I was at that show in Anaheim. Amazing.
This man is a history of rock in the flesh.
The only band that truly out dream theaters dream theater haha
Derek rocks !!
Jesus that’s a lot of equipment for a band of this size
Billy's such a great guy, can't believe he's 65.. and is the only scientologist that deserves respect, though hopefully he hasn't gotten his family into it
Line 6 Helix everywhere!!
Is it a B3 of C3?
What about Bumblefoot???????????
Damn Mike, just mount the octobans in the same place that Mike Mangini has them on his kit.
Excellent! I’m wondering what is the very nice Arabic strings sound he used at 11:13 with this the little loop at the end. Is it a sound that exists in the Kronos (factory) or did Derek create it ?
Brilliant episode!
Just gotta love Billy :)
Where's Ron?
Noice, I play bass and I luv Billy Sheehan’s bass playing. He’s an amazing player, he’s awesome. Other than that, Sons Of Apollo Rules:).
Billy Billy ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤✌👏
Is this a 'Sons of Apollo' song he's playing at 10:49?
Yes
What does billy shean and yngwie malmsteen? The sound of chains
Damn if only that keyboardist had 8 hands! There would be no need in guitar player
Dang, who's got bigger hands, Billy or Steve Vai?
someone should make a headless double neck guitar, probably would make it much more balanced to wear on a strap...also, transformers sound at 13:54 wtf
And Ron ?...
Nice rig rundown
Billy is a MOOONNNSTERRR!!
Keyboard tone is amazing as usual! DT used to have BIG BALLS in the keyboard world... now it's all cheap toy sounds =(
wtf that was amazing !!
Hey guys What is the in ear monitor system they use. Is that the behringer system????
Derek, bro...
Thanks for a great video!
man, the jingling of Billy's necklace is so annoying :D great vid btw
Wow, amazing!
4:52 Drumtech alias Jordan Rudess :D
These dude is seriously heavily geared with skills
10:50 is that an actual song or an improv??
That's from the verse of God of the Sun from the Psychotic Symphony album
if you close your eyes, you will hear badass version of Chuck McGill talkin'...
Ah, so Billy does play the top neck!
BumbleWho?
just kidding, great video!
Bumblefoot?
I´d wish Derek would have mooore from John Lord or Jordan Rudess...but....that´s all I will say..Love his rig by the way..XD
Billy Sheehan he´s Knight of Bass...
Possibly the greatest prog band of all time.
Did Billy say why he's using the double neck?
One is BEAD, one is EADG. Billy prefers 4 string to five. Of course, it's a visual thing too, as Bumblefoot also uses a double neck.
qdaveq why play 5 strings when you can play 8 strings and 3 of them are tuned exactly the same?
18:34 La Villa Strangiato
dude billy gave an entire college class about his gear
That's some keyboard rig, never seen a keyboardist use stacks of guitar amps for distortion before, especially in this age of amp modelling. I bet guitarists are spitting teeth at that, thinking what a waste of good Engl amps lol.
What happened, no Ron?
Jesus Mike, yes, you're in a thousand projects, we know! Just talk about the damn kit you're using! Lol
