I love my M57. I used it in the militia and honestly it's a great fighting pistol. For $230, it's practically highway robbery. I think it's a shame that there aren't more modern 7.62x25 handguns out there, considering the amazing ability of the cartridge. I use 30 Mauser for a lot of my shooting because it's gentler than the 7.62x25, meaning I can shoot it faster and more precisely. The M70A and the M57 are the same gun, just the M70A is for 9x19 and the M57 is 7.62x25. Far more people have M70A's than M57's. I am the only person I know with an M57, but at least 3 people I know personally have an M70A. One of their serial numbers is >11000 -- my M57 has a serial number in the 1900 range. I use it frequently for carry. Its slim profile makes it very versatile. I always carry with a full mag + 1 in the chamber, hammer back, and safety on. The firing pin is inertial, so if you have it hammer down, a sufficient shock can make it go bang. DO NOT CARRY ANY TOKAREV HAMMER DOWN, NOT EVEN WITH HALF COCK! This actually killed someone in a documented incident where a Tokarev was dropped! The safety, on the other hand, works very well and the modern M57 is a new production firearm designed to have the safety rather than it being a last minute feature hastily added by an importer; the M57 and M70A were fully intended for foreign civilian export sales. Now, the safety is very easy to put on, but is hard to fully sweep 100% off with the thumb, but I have noticed that if you just nudge it a little bit so that it clickes out of safe, it'll finish its ascent and go bang when you pull the trigger. Thanks for doing this wonderful video, Mac.
Mortablunt Good information! I love my M57 so much a hand load for it. Been thinking about changing to M1911 Grips, modern sights, and refinishing. I wish there were a modern option for this caliber as well. You can still get the M1911 conversation barrels for 7.62x25, but it would be more expensive than having a Smith lipstick an M57.
I actually took sparkly pink hi vis nail polish to the front sight, glow in the dark paint to the rear sight, and that has dramatically improved shootability.
I have carried with the safety on and a round in.the chsmber. However, I noticed that the primer gets scratches on it, apparently from the firing pin rubbing against it. Have you seen this problem, and do you still carry with a chambered round?
You carry hammer back, +1 in the chamber, safety on. How long have you been doing this, and have you noticed scratches on the bullets from the proud firing pin?
Absolutley love my m57 and use it for my every day carry, bought it few years back for 150$+ handselect fee, with extra mag so around 180$ in total, best bang for your buck, good luck finding a better quality handgun for under 250$. Have put hundreds of rounds threw her with zero malfunctions, also most simple disassembly of any handgun I've owned. The 7.62x25 is an absolute beast and plenty affordable for my means.
No you can't find a better deal but at 80 cents a round and mostly corrosive ammo out there other than ppu and sellier and belliot theres no ammo options and its much more expensive than 9mm. Over time that 180 dollar pistol will cost you more if you shoot alot of ammo training at the range.

This is a great pistol and I bought from classic firearms about 7 years ago when they offered it in a hard chrome refinished version and it does have a safety on the left side. Its a great shooter an looks great. The reason the TTs had no safeties were because the Russian Cavalry Commander wanted a pistol that he could pull out and cock it like a revolver and shoot it without having to worry about a safety. He was forward thinking and Tokarev delivered the goods in this classic warhorse.
I just picked up my Zastava M57 from Classic Firearms today. It is beautiful and just about unissued in appearance. Man, you are one of the reasons that I bought one as your review of it was excellent (Of course, you had the same effect on me with the Makarov). I happen to love the 1911 and I also love cold war pistols. Put them together and you get: The Tokarev. Can't wait to clean, oil and shoot it. Very happy with Classic Firearms and my M57!
Been reading some of the derogatory comments about you on the internet and have to tell you,, some have a ax to grind with you I imagine over personals stuff but, your videos have always been of interest to me and thank you for your service to our country.
MAC ! Watching from Canada for damn near 11 years. Really appreciate your videos and your passion for firearms tech, history and innovation ! Thanks for the shout out about our great weather, spent some time in Naples Italy with US navy ! Great lifelong friends ❤🙏 god bless !
The M70A in 9mm is a more affordable option to shoot. These pistols dont have a drop safety and I noticed even with the safety engaged that the firing pin can make contact with the primer of a loaded round.
I also ordered one of these M57's from Classic jut before Christmas. I absolutely love it. To be a used firearm it is in great shape. Removing the cosmoline was an all evening adventure but I tore it completely apart. For $199 you can't beat it. I am thinking of ordering a couple more before they run out of this batch. Without the large import markings and added external safety I think these are the nicest 7.62x25 Tokarevs I have saw.
Side note, to remove cosmoline soak the gun in damn near boiling water. As the grease gets hot it will liquefy and run right off/out of the gun. Once gun cools off use air compressor to blow out any remaining water and spray the sucker down with Rem-oil.
The ZASTAVA M57 I got from classic firearms recently has a thumb safety added just above the grip. No longer had that clean look. Haven’t brought it out to the range yet but after a thorough cleaning the rust is all gone and she’s all purty. Gorgeous piece of manufacturing.
I think what youre describing is basically the PPS43 carbine that was on the market a few years ago... Cant believe I didnt get one back then because theyre hard to find and expensive now.
I bought a brand new, in the box, M-57 about a year ago. I loved it so much, I also bought a spare! I make my ammo out of cut down .223/5.56 brass...works like a champ!
I know this video is old, but my Zastava M57 is one of Mt favorite guns. It is a great shooter and powerful too, I bought some sweet grips, because I think the stock ones are ugly as hell. I also removed the safety that they put in for export. It's one of my favorites!! Good video..
I just picked up this pistol from classic and yea it was absolutely caked in cosmoline, so much so i couldn't rack the slide lol. I left it with the gun shop so it can be professionally cleaned. Can't wait to get it back and take it to the range
Actually, I believe firearms import restrictions were lifted a few months ago. Now, whether the state arms factory is willing to sell is another matter. We could also use some of their Galil Aces.
Watched the video and about halfway in went over to classic and had to have it just like the Bulgarian Macs you showed in a previous video. Keep up the great work Tim.
They just got in a shipment of Romanian Tokarev TTC's in apparently REALLY EXCELLENT condition, now going for $219. Think I will have to add one to my collection, pair it up with my M57!
Hi Tim, Finally a review that doesn't give me the sudden urge to go out and buy one. I already did and delivery is expected tomorrow- LOL! Thanks for the great videos. Steve
I just picked up a 1953 Romanian TT-33C yesterday. Looking forward to shooting it. I just learned that the slide was locked when hammer is half-cocked. Thanks for pointing that out!
I believe the new Zastavas with slide mounted safety is a hammer block as well. I may be wrong, I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but if I remember correctly it rotates a hammer block in front of the firing pin. On mine it looks like 2 protrusions on the safety shaft that block the firing pin from being struck. Regardless, I love these, and have a surplus along with a new one. Have another coming thanks to this video...Nice work, great heads up on a cool pistol.
Blast. Just bought an M57 a month ago from SOG for $240. This new one with the trigger safety...man that's just awesome. Love me some Tokarev. They shoot sooooo nice.
I just got an m57 a month ago. I'm always 10 years behind. Of course now I can't find the ammo anywhere. Still an amazing gun and an impressive round especially since it was made back in 1930. I am amazed it hasn't caught on more so.

Yes, this video (as all videos are) was released a while back only to my Patreons. I sent the guys at Classic a link to check it out and they put it in one of their email blasts by accident (they didn't know the video wasn't public). It was scheduled for release today so it's no biggie.

You did well to get through that tabletop review MAC. You've obviously got a pretty bad cold. I got stuck doing a live stand-up presentation to 600 people with a cold like that years ago. I almost went down in flames but got going eventually. You were like a mirror in this vid. Well done.
Two things to note: 1) It's called a hammer assembly, not a trigger assembly. 2) On the Yugo M57, there are serrations on the top of the slide towards the front sight that are there for blocking glare from the sun.
Glock has done nothing for 30 years except change calibers and sizes of it's old gun. It would be fun if they made one in this caliber, but that will never happen.
A CZ75 in 7.62 is my wish. So much raw potential with this round in a more modern handgun platform. I dont get why no one has even tried... But companies come up with similar proprietary rounds like 357sig, when theyd sell more if they used the already established cartridge. Just doesnt make sense to me.
Purchased both a Tokarev M57 and M70A tanks to this video. Great review and the M57 is way fun to shoot, what a blast, literally. Love the 7.62x25 round, it is a hot round. Great guns IMO, love them both.

Hey Mac. The captive spring is great till that little spring stop on the front magically dissapears. Mine popped off at work without me knowing and the barel bushing walked left and locked my gun up. Cant find the captive version at all but u fixed ut till then. I do love the little pistol ive been carrying one for three or more years. Love the chanel. Keep up the good videos
My first gun at 21 years old, I have over 50k of surplus SMG ammo that can pass though both sides of a 3a vest at 50m. It has a real safety so can carry it loaded, the stock trigger is fine but polish it up nice and it's an amazing trigger, I managed to get 2 spare mags and they are hard to get. I recommend buying surplus ammo or reloading as factory ammo is very weak. My uncle is a milsurp freak and knowing I was in upstate NY he got me it for my 21st birthday and he has over 140000 rounds of surplus ammo as he managed to get it for less than 5c a round some years ago and he gave me some crates for free, now surplus is expensive but you can still get it. I can allways get Bulgarian surplus from him for a cheap price and I feel it's the best. If you cant get surplus ammo then reload hot rounds. Since upstate NY has a 10 round mag limit and 7 round in the mag you can carry I felt it was a great pistol, a little heavy but it's thin and does not print, very easy to conceal. I like the TT33 but I would not feel safe with the janky import safety. Only get Zastava mags but can be hard to find. The only other round that can pass 3a with lead FMJ is 7.5FK from CZ. In eastern Europe they make cz75 style pistols with double stack 7.62 tok mags as it's the cheapist ammo on that nation but none have been imported. I really prefer a pair of nice wood grips and honestly I feel it's an improved version of the 1911 and it's never ever failed me after 10s of 1000s of rounds. One of my favourite handgun, if you get the new Yugo then you can put a 9mm barrel in and will work fine with the 7.62 Tok mags. I painted the sights on mine with watchmakers lume paint and the sights are zeroed from the factory. Did a trigger job and debuted the Yugo slide safety to make it more easy to change. You can buy comfortable holsters and I'm pretty sure you can still get these for a reasonable price not much more than a high point.
I have a Romanian version of the Tok that was made in 1953 and it's still a tack driver (all matching serial numbers except the mag). I put a Chinese aftermarket wrap around grip on it that is form fitting to the hand and is more comfortable. They did molest my gun with an added safety switch just under the slide stop but it's designed to hover just above it so they didn't have to cut a notch in the stop like one of your example guns.
If you're wearing vodka as a safety.. don't shoot him he may friend, or may have more vodka, or you'll waste too many bullets he's down, he's up, he's down...he can't even tell if he's been hit.
I had this suragate big brother as a youth that would pedal me the same sort of philosophy. I never really understood until I discovered that vodka is actually quite nice as long as it's not Smirnoff (fucking dyslexia!) or worse, fucking Glen's. Decent vodka really takes the edge off.

Tim, you sold me. I ordered one this morning along with some extra magazines and some ammo. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome. They're great surplus guns at a very attractive price right now.
Good video as always. Keep up the good work and Semper Fi.
Been reading some of the derogatory comments about you on the internet and have to tell you,, some have a ax to grind with you I imagine over personals stuff but, your videos have always been of interest to me and thank you for your service to our country.
Who else remembers when Mosin Nagants were $70 and you had your pick of the litter?
$60.00
"They're all about simplicity and reliability."
The AN-94 says otherwise. :P
A Bowl of Pho That was just a vent of their built up complexity...
That's why it was only formally adopted.
The AN-94 had a problem jamming because of the 2 round burst .
Now let's compare it to G11 :P
An-94 is made in russia while this one is from serbia
That 7.62x25 is a sweet heart of a round. Might have to look into that pistol. Thanks for showing it MAC
I would love to see an ak chambered for this round instead on 9mm. Or something like the skorpion vz 61.
I want one of those 10mm Mp5's to get rechambered for this.
If you want a "carbine" in 7.62x25mm, try finding a Polish PPS-43c!
I think what youre describing is basically the PPS43 carbine that was on the market a few years ago... Cant believe I didnt get one back then because theyre hard to find and expensive now.
Bravo, great video! I have one like yours with the trigger safety and minimal import markings. We were lucky!
Thanks for the video. Finally someone on UA-cam pronounces Makarov correctly :)
I cheered out loud haha
Haha....True nuff but listen to him say 'Tork-A- Rev'...
You should have shown everyone how easy it is to break that magazine disconnect off :)
When mine arrived from Classic, I discovered that somebody had already done it!
I just ordered one of these a few days before you uploaded this from classic. Talk about good timing! I am so excited for it to come in!
Too bad we can't get the Vietnamese with the double stack 13rd Capacity.
That would be amazing!
Actually, I believe firearms import restrictions were lifted a few months ago. Now, whether the state arms factory is willing to sell is another matter. We could also use some of their Galil Aces.
Yes exactly the K-14 Vietnamese Tokarev holds 12+1. You would think that after diplomatic relations they'll be available in the future.
I was just watching other M57 videos and then saw you upload a video. What a pleasent suprise. Just in time.
Just one thing... what is 1911 in America, that is M57 in Bosna and Serbia. It's an icon. Greetings from Bosnia! 💎😄
I love this channel so much. Keep the good work my friend. Cheers from Puerto Rico.
--12 celsius going to school today in estonia and thats not bad at all
Kristjan Ulla i
Kristjan Ulla thats 10.4 F, which is not that cold for northern Indiana either. I shot 4 hours in the same weather this past weekend.
When he said "below zero" he was using Fahrenheit. 0 Fahrenheit is -18 Celsius.
Watched the video and about halfway in went over to classic and had to have it just like the Bulgarian Macs you showed in a previous video. Keep up the great work Tim.
"Te-tka" - aunt in Serbian is best gun ever. Try too shot on targets 50 m and above than you can hear how fast those bullets are.
Woo, thanks MAC. Just ordered mine, some extra mags and ammo! I've been looking for one of these far a while.
Classic Firearms has a shipment of M57 pistols for $199.99 with 2 mags, the best deal on any Mil surp firearms you're gonna get.
Steve
Congrats on your new purchase and thanks for watching!
I love the rusty axe stuck in a tree behind you. Lol
There's a story to that axe. It's Jason's grandfathers who had it his entire life on their family farm (where the range is).
Shootin' at the "The Rusty Axe Range". Also a well camouflaged back-up weapon.
I noticed the axe too. This is the first video I have noticed it in.
The wifie took mine for our 20th anniversary. Now I need to buy another one . THANKS TIM !!
Yes it is best gun on world hello from bosnia and hercegovina pozz ppn vitezovi
Hello! Thanks for watching!
I wotch your videos hole time pozz ppn vitezovi
e jeste kurac najbolji na svetu :-)
Stephen Powers yep that’s mine new production
Pretty sure my M70a does the same.
Yes the safety is hammer block
Yes, but that is not M57, it is Zastava M88 or M88A
Blast. Just bought an M57 a month ago from SOG for $240. This new one with the trigger safety...man that's just awesome. Love me some Tokarev. They shoot sooooo nice.
I love that round and wish U.S. manufacturers would embrace it. PC Carbine anyone?
I just got an m57 a month ago. I'm always 10 years behind. Of course now I can't find the ammo anywhere. Still an amazing gun and an impressive round especially since it was made back in 1930. I am amazed it hasn't caught on more so.
Everywhere online
@@VBH8888 yes I know about buying online I just spent about finding it in person I should have been more specific. I like to examine ammo. Had some bad experiences of ordering online.
Now I watched how it's designed, it's so simple and effective, you must be a genius to design something so simple!
It's a Browning copy.
A boy and his rifle: only the locking system. The rest is just pure cleaverty. I love it. I'm and engineer and I just love the simplicity.
Thanks to you I’ve now bought this little sweetheart. Funny, you did the same thing to me with a Bulgarian Makarov. LOVE it!
As a former designated marksman, i can confirm that those are still being used in the training centres of the Serbian army!
That makes me so happy! I've carried an m57 for nearly a decade!
@@tamarawhite803 I'm thinking about getting one, i guess you found it pretty good!
testament to their durability and robust design
I can't believe I've never seen the axe before. Now I'll be looking for it in all your videos. Well played. 👍
"Time to shoot this handgun the way it was shot back in the day!"
*Proceeds to put handgun up to the head of the cameraman who has disappointed him.
This is vastly underrated comment.. perhaps, the arbitrary executions in communist countries of 20th century get forgotten on this generation..
These skulls full of mush think communism is great. I don’t know how my daughter got caught up in this crap.
Charles McKinley Did you send her off to the indoctrination camps.... eh I mean public high school or college?
Sir Galahad sadly I did. One of the biggest mistakes of my life.
Charles McKinley That seems like a very common theme unfortunately, I’m sorry...
I ordered one from Classic, and swapped out the Glock style trigger with an original Tokarev trigger, also from Classic. Great gun!
Is this an unlisted video currently?
Or is UA-cam just hiding my preferred content again.
Only reason i found it was because of classic firearms email promoting it.
Lol, "serby no worky".
You should indeed do a Tok cosmoline removal video if you were up to it, I'd love to see your take on it and I'm sure it'd be pretty funny yet greatly informative.
Wonderful video brother, i love these 7.62 tok's. Thanks for the wonderful content.
- Rick
Domino52o I believe it just became available on UA-cam. This video was first available to MAC's Patreon supporters.
Yes, this video (as all videos are) was released a while back only to my Patreons. I sent the guys at Classic a link to check it out and they put it in one of their email blasts by accident (they didn't know the video wasn't public). It was scheduled for release today so it's no biggie.
Good reason to become a Patreon supporter of MAC if you already aren't!
Military Arms Channel
Gotcha, thanks for letting me know,. and believe me brother, if i didn't have to go certain days without eating in between pay checks, you'd be the first in a long line of peeps I'd support through copper and patreon.
Can't wait to get done with trade school and begin making bank, lol.
juncho1977
Believe me if i could i would.
Top favorite UA-camr without a doubt.
You did well to get through that tabletop review MAC. You've obviously got a pretty bad cold. I got stuck doing a live stand-up presentation to 600 people with a cold like that years ago. I almost went down in flames but got going eventually. You were like a mirror in this vid. Well done.
Thanks to you and mrgunsngear I am all ways broke from these milsurps
your audio is extremely clean and clear, doesn't sound outside at all. very nice quality video and content - sub and thum up.
Hey Tim, did you know that you can use the m57 magazines in the shorter grip guns? I do it all the time for that extra round 😁
Yeah, but it's fugly. 😂
Lol
Two things to note:
1) It's called a hammer assembly, not a trigger assembly.
2) On the Yugo M57, there are serrations on the top of the slide towards the front sight that are there for blocking glare from the sun.
If Glock made a 19 size pistol chambered in 7.62x25.... I would buy it in a heart beat.
Glock has done nothing for 30 years except change calibers and sizes of it's old gun. It would be fun if they made one in this caliber, but that will never happen.
You and me both! ...Though a G20 sized frame would probably be the most likely candidate for this caliber.
I just want a western company to copy the TT-30 properly. (none of that BS like the RAS-47 ak, that gun is garbage!)
Maybe you should try this gun or try cz99. There is a chance you will realy like it. Greatings from Sebia.
Purchased both a Tokarev M57 and M70A tanks to this video. Great review and the M57 is way fun to shoot, what a blast, literally. Love the 7.62x25 round, it is a hot round. Great guns IMO, love them both.
Glad you like the M57! Our country is good at making firearms, isn't it?
Zastava makes good stuff. M90 m70 all good
Love my m57.
Its better than the original version lol.
I like the grip over the Russian and other Tokarevs. Thanks...always very professional.
It's killing me that Mil-Surp pistols are disappearing. Classic Firearms are out of stock on Bulgarian Makarovs! Curse me and my quest for rare Diemaco parts and the money pit it has become. Anyways, keep up the good work! I promised you last summer that I would join Patreon as soon as I finished recovering from investing in a SGL 31-94. Well I am proud to announce that I am now a Patreon member! Also I joined the GOA! Best decision I have ever made!
xCrimsonxTidex I just looked and they are still in stock. The arsenal Bulgarian makarov with bakelite grips $269.99
+Michael Murray Really now? Interesting...
I checked as well, and they're back in stock... I guess that's my next purchase!
xCrimsonxTidex cool bro, I want one as well.
xCrimsonxTidex You might just get a Russian sneak. . . . I did!
Wow, I've learned so much from this video. Excellent job man. Thanks
Thank you for watching.
I have got to get me one of those!
Best video yet on this gun. 👍
You think so?? I'm still looking as well haha found mine at a pawn shop, picking it up today!!!!!!!
Cz 52. I know you have one, bring it out for a video.
I do have one, and I should bring it out.
Military Arms Channel
Cz 52. Looking forward to the video for that classic 7.62 Tokarev.
@@Robespierres_Ghost I have the CZ52, Tokarev M57, now Classic firearms has Tokarev TTC's for $219, I have a feeling I will be adding one of those to my 7.62x25 arsenal, lol!
The m70a saved my life one night a few years ago I think I may need one of these I have a soft spot for the toks just wish the mags were more available
Great video... M57 is nice.
It's warmer in Anchorage Alaska right now than it is there
Now that's crazy to hear. I figured it would be like -20 up there!
Military Arms Channel the Pacific currents keep anchorage moderately temperate... Fairbanks is another story. Thanks for making videos in the cold! My coldest is about -1 but there's also little wind or humidity here
Classic just had a shipment of these available in "excellent" condition.......I hopped right on that, and am currently waiting for my FFL to call. Yes!!! The "excellent" ones sold out in 1 day.
Little soviet era pistols get my goat. MORE.
Tok parts should be easy to find. Just convert it to a non-captured setup. I'm sorry to hear that though.
Off topic but when are u going to do a beard maintenance video??? Lol
I shower, towel dry and go about my day. 👍
I would buy a polymer double-stack pistol in this caliber. and a carbine. Someone should make one.
like maybe a CZ Scorpion EVO in 7.62 x 25, or maybe the B&T TP or APC.
Dominion arms
traumajock PPS43C
I have a Romanian version of the Tok that was made in 1953 and it's still a tack driver (all matching serial numbers except the mag). I put a Chinese aftermarket wrap around grip on it that is form fitting to the hand and is more comfortable. They did molest my gun with an added safety switch just under the slide stop but it's designed to hover just above it so they didn't have to cut a notch in the stop like one of your example guns.
In Serbia we don't worry about safety, Vodka is your safety
Love your country, your firearms and your outlook!!!
If you're wearing vodka as a safety..
don't shoot him he may friend, or may have more vodka, or you'll waste too many bullets he's down, he's up, he's down...he can't even tell if he's been hit.
It's also good for cleaning wounds.
I had this suragate big brother as a youth that would pedal me the same sort of philosophy. I never really understood until I discovered that vodka is actually quite nice as long as it's not Smirnoff (fucking dyslexia!) or worse, fucking Glen's. Decent vodka really takes the edge off.
Ај не кењај , ко још пије водку овде
Just got mine Friday super happy with it.
Does it take Glock mags?
If you use a bench vise Yes!
YES! IT DOES not. 😛
They should make a Glock in 7.62x25
Lol isn’t Bob Dobalina a Del the Funky Homosapien song?
Nate R. Maybe
You make amazing videos, you are a legend and a role model to me. Sadly, I live in Australia, so I can't really get firearms as easily. Thank you for what you do, and your channel.
Russian guns not quite as sexy as Russian women, but still very cool! ❤️👯👍
lol as if any of us have ever seen a russian woman in the flesh
also what's a woman
the few that I've seen are pretty attractive.
Cody Cuppes how so.
Marry one and find out what a real temper is.
I think the cosmoline cleaning video is a great idea
