Id much rather have sober tyler than losin him too early. too many people complain about how his music just “ain’t the same anymore since he got sober” but man this guy can sing anything and it’ll sound beautiful. he’s bringing back true southern american country. I ain’t even a religious person and i’m pumped for this new album and i’m always excited to see what he’ll do next. It’s rare to have an amazing songwriter and singer in one and i think he’s truly rare and something the country genre needed. his voice and his music is addicting

The hallelujah version has a sitar!! That's a classical indian instrument that was popularised by George Harrison and The Beatles arounf the Sgt Pepper era. That was really good overview and summation. I just finished watching the video Angel Band and then having seen some recent pictures of him had me thinking he looked like pure bluegrass boy from the 40's. This is totally different than the nervous, unkept, shaky handed Tyler I originally started listening to and fell in love with his music and lyrics. He's gone through sort of change be it religious, professional, personal or whatever. I'm good with it. I was really happy to hear he was trying to go sober. All I can say is God I hope you give him the strength, power and will. Tyler has so much to give to the world I don't want to lose him to something as useless as drugs. This new feel Tyler is laying out there for people to either embrace or reject I think I'll embrace it for now. I"m game for something new and I'm so tired of fighting with everyone "Can't we all just get along for a few minutes please."

I don't listen to him much but my curiosity got the best of me when I saw Angel Band on my feed. My first though was he was doing a cover of Angel Band by The Stanley Brothers. But when I realized it wasn't at that same time I downloaded it. The opening got me. Can't wait to hear this album all the way through. The cover reminds me of exactly what you were saying. Took me back to when I was a kid and we would all pile in the suburban and go to the Methodist church my great grandma would go to. Over an hour drive to that small town church. Every chance my mom got we went out there. Looking back I'm grateful we did that. Some of the best memories of my childhood were spent in that town going to that church and all the other small town stuff that goes with it.

I am definitely not the most religious guy in the worId, but I am so here for this! The vein this is in is soooo much of what made the greats like Cash and Williams so relatable. We are all stuck between heaven and hell and seeing an artist focus both upward and downward in different albums is great! Tyler was arguably my favorite before, and this just makes it so much better.

The heart of country music regionally is also the regional heart of some of the major religious movements in the US and their origins coincide historically. Folk songs often find their root in religious themes because the religious fervor was very high when they were written or orally passed on.

It kind of just saddens me. I was excited to see he was releasing a gospel album, but it really just seems like he's trying to take Christianity and shove it into the 21st century, apologizing for the beliefs of Christians and watering Jesus down into the new, popular, feel-good, don't-worry-about-sin version that gets echoed all the time. Universalism and Christianity aren't just incompatible, they're competing worldviews that clash with each other.

I disagree that it is a gospel album. It’s his version of his personal transformation, heavily influenced by his use of psychedelics. It’s not a watered down anything. You should check out his interview with Silas House. I know your comment was from a few months ago, so you may have already seen it. I feel like listeners try and make their own assumptions too much, based on their personal experiences. I grew up in a hellfire and brimstone church and even married a preacher. We both were abused by the church for years. We left it all behind and I’ve never been happier. I didn’t leave God behind, but I left the toxicity of the church and man behind. For me, everything that was once black and white, is now grey and way more complex than I ever realized. I fully appreciate his outlook on spirituality and it’s an outstanding album.

I can tell you right now that the last thing I ever expected to hear in one of these videos was a reference to a childhood favorite, Gold City Quartet.

I think this'll be a good album. On some level though I am a little disappointed he didn't release "Rustin' in the Rain". I know it wouldn't fit with the album, but at least if he released it as a single I would be satisfied.

Rhett from Good Mythical Morning is releasing a similar project about his religious experience as James and the Shame. Don’t know if you’ve heard the singles yet, but I figured I’d toss a comment out maybe pique your interest.

So now having listened to the differences I have come to the conclusion that I like the Jubilee version better. Now I do enjoy the hallelujah version but there are places where it lacks. The end for example, it feels lackluster and I find myself getting restless for the end. However in the Jubilee version there is always that layer of horns keeping it interesting, and I get to focus on that nice guitar picking when I want to.

I just now discovered Tyler, a God thing I know!! WOW is an understatement of his voice & I love the new hair cut. Most of all that Tyler is singing Gospel music & sober for himself (difficult I know, nothing is easy here!) ♥️🙌🙌🙌

We all envision Heaven differently. That’s what makes it so great! Nobody has the slightest clue what Heaven will be like, or look like until we get there! I don’t care what your religion may tell you, or what the words you’ve read has told you. None of us know until we are called upon! I feel it’s a mix of everyone’s religion, just like here on Earth. Only it’s perfect, beautiful, and no such thing as hatred or negativity.🙌

I dig these new tunes. But the “gospel album” idea worries me ONLY BECAUSE I was dying for more honky tonk rippers like Rustin in the Rain. Idk if something like that would make it on to a gospel album, but who knows. Excited regardless

I've been seeing live vids from Tyler with the traveling Mccourys
A lot of midwits think simply mocking Christian words equals a punchline, was hoping this wasn't the case
I was raised fundamental Baptist. I'm not anymore but I appreciate sincere faith and it's nice to see others who do too

Like his other albums... it is Tyler at his best... speaking his truth... the only difference is the topic and the tune. If the topic and tune are not to you liking... then it is the "previous work" music and not Tyler's message that you enjoy.

This song describes MY church perfectly. Our only decon does the hard candy, my mother-in-law lord a mighty does she get filled with the Holy Spirit and our Pastor bring our Lords message from on high. Our OLD COUNTRY CHURCH has no music, we sing Capella and we still use outhouses. I AM VERY PROUD OF MY CHURCH and our FAITHFUL FEW.

Great recap. Im impressed that u not only noticed, but u called out the lines with anti-Christian stereotypes. I was raised around the revival circuits,. I have literally NEVER heard anyone suggest Jesus is blonde hair and blue eyes, that's weird. In fact, I've never heard any of the classic racism in church, it's such an odd stereotype. Im guessing it's the Hillsboro Baptists, somehow people attached the label "racists" to them. For as "bad" as their protests were, they were never racist. I was away from church for 2 decades. I returned to the church because I saw so much negativity in media about Christians, I was forced to defend the Christians. I looked around at behaviors, it was obvious Christians were more accepting, helpful, loving, etc. than the college educated hipster atheists. Atheists do a lot of talking. Christians do a lot of doing! We will see where TC is with his spirituality. I'm hoping he has moved on from his childish views. My relationship with God has changed significantly over the years. I see that in Tyler, I'm excited for him to keep growing.
