    Great video! Thank you. TIP: After to make your template on your tissue paper, make a more permanent template on plastic, especially if you are going to do many of this size pot. A great source for plastic to make the template is the Dollar Store cutting mats in the kitchen tools section. I use these plastic cutting mats to make applique templates for quilting.

      I use gallon plastic water bottles for a plastic template if it's small enough. Sometimes I use take away foam food containers and cut them up. Thanks for the video! I used this method on a pillbox hat once, it wasn't easy!

    I already have mini pots on hand and I also have enough fabric to open up a fabric store. I do not know if I would go out and buy the mod podge for my pots as most of my plants are already potted in nice pots bought several years ago and they are al large pots but, your idea gave me an idea to make pin cushions to sell at my craft sale. I usually paint the outside of the pots or stencils them or glue buttons all around but, I think fabric would be cool with the same fabric or different on the cushion top. I put very fine steel wool under the fabric instead of polyfoam because it keeps your pins sharp nd some pins if in a damp climate can rust and steel wood keeps them clean from rust. The fabric you used was beautiful and the 3 pots together were awesome looking. The Dollar Tree and Michael's have nice little artificial poseys that would look nice in your pots too stuck in florist foam. Or get some florist foam and some little US flags from the Dollar Tree and cover it with patriotic fabric and make a few to go down the middle of your picnic table on 4th of July. Make enough for how ever many guests you are having and then let them take the pot home when they leave. Sincerely, Rebekah in Alexandria, VA

    For the template wouldn't it have been easier to measure the top and bottom circumference from a straight line drawn down the pot and measure the depth of the area as the tissue paper is just cumbersome. What I did notice is the curve of your template, is that why it's better to use tissue paper.?

    • @TheONeilSisters
      @TheONeilSisters  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Corinna, Because the top of the pot is bigger around than the bottom, it doesn't work to cut out a rectangle template. So we use the tissue paper to get a true tracing of the pot. It ends up being curved. You can see a photo of the template in the how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/decoupage-mini-terra-cotta-pots-fabric/
      Hope that helps!

    Don't you need to seal the pot so the water doesn't stain the fabric?

      Great question Linda! The Outdoor Mod Podge we used is a glue, finish and sealer in one. Here's the complete how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/decoupage-mini-terra-cotta-pots-fabric/

      Well I can tell from experience all the terra cotta pot I've sealed with modge podge leaked through and stained the material, just saying because now I'm doing them all over because I found that the sealer is necessary. Just saying 😌

    Pardon me. .. yrs ago I tried Mod Podge BUT, it didn't dry, stayed tacky. I do live in a very humid environment (So. FL.). One more question (pleeZe!); can you apply a sealer even when you think you'll only use an item indoors?

    • @TheONeilSisters
      @TheONeilSisters  6 років тому

      Hi TreeZa! We are from Tampa, Florida originally. We know that humidity well! We would recommend letting the Mod Podge dry a good long time, like 3 days. Indoors would be best. And yeZ you can use a sealer, although Mod Podge is a sealer in iteself. Here are the step by step instructions on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/decoupage-mini-terra-cotta-pots-fabric/

      @@TheONeilSisters You're so kind to reply!! Yay Florida, huh! Yup, I realize Mod Podge IS a sealer in itself (I guess most glue-type things are) & yup, I let it dry like forever & it stayed tacky - oh well. Lol! Anyway, I've answered you before checking out the site you mentioned but, will definitely do it. Just bought a new house Nov. 2 & have lots of projects I want to try so, PURRfect timing! (Again, thank you for your help & kindness!) Merry Christmas!!!

      Hi Jessica,
      We haven't tried that, but it could work. Maybe do a test to see how it turns out. We'd love to hear your results.

    you should always cut fabric on a flat surface , not holding it up in the air.

    When doing tutorials it would be wise to have all your steps done beforehand instead of waiting for paint to dry. Wisdom would have had several pots in all stages of the project as you are doing stages for the camera. Too much wasted time.
