This is one of the best commercials I've ever seen, I still remember it, and it's from like a decade ago. It's just amazing. As a Swede, you can really feel this imagary and lyrics deep down, we all know this so well. This is us. The subtitles aren't very good though, I feel like almost half the song gets lost in translation. The thing about this song describing Sweden so well, in the dark months, is that it mentions so many places. From someone not living here, those places means nothing, so I guess that's why they translated it like this, but to me, I think that removes a bit of the soul of the song. Hope you could check out this other version of the same song, with both Swedish and English lyrics, and with the amazing singer Sarah Dawn Finer: "Vintersaga - Sarah Dawn Finer on TheSwedishLad's channel"
Yes, they lose a LOT of references, but some would be hard to catch if you are not from here: "På andra sidan sundet börjar världen" Literally: on the other side of the straits the world starts. Translatd as: on the other side, another world. But from the meaning it is very clear that "sundet" refers to Öresund/the Sound not just any strait, on the other side is Denmark and Europe and yes the rest of the World. A lot of similar translation where the literal ones would be lost for most people not from here, specific places replaced be generic ones. And the song do a very good work in catching the Swedish soul. I somethings think it would make a much better National hymn than our current one
Yeah, the subtitles are AWFUL. Completely misses the point of the lyrics. Woun't even grade them 1/10 because they are so, so bad. Why even bother? Might as well go full Sven-Melander-translating-Casablanca
This song was not written for Volvo, they changed the lyrics a bit to suit the ad. The Swedish lyrics talks of specific places in Sweden but the English captions said things like a local bar or a border station, but in the lyrics she names the specific places. The lyrics takes you all over Sweden. Ted Ström wrote this in 1984, and several artists have had chart topping success covering it. My favourite being Jerry Williams' version. Probably because it hits a chord in all Swedes inner feelings.
Thank you for your reaction. I've been thinking about making this request for a good while. I really love the way they portray Sweden in this video, and the song really brings it home.
This was like a story beeing told. Beautiful. Sweden is a long country and the temperature differs a lot from north to south. The part where Timbuktu (swedish artist) walks on the sea between sweden and denmark is a rare thing to be able to do becuase most winters its not that cold.
Maritha told us a lot about this song! It sure is a fantastic song! 👌🏻👌🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️ But here we only heard a bit of it. It is a salut to Sweden during the hard, cold and dark winter months. Full of melancholy. Takes the listener to different places all over Sweden. We have tough, dark winters. But very beautiful summers with a special light only to be seen in the Nordic countries! 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓 I will try and find the complete version of this song with translation! But I thank You, Bjoardar, for this request! 🙏🏻💙💙 Yes, a beautiful commercial! Thank You for Your reaction, Highly! 🙏🏻💜💜
You're welcome. It's such a great song and the way they put the video together is just so artful. It may be a bit gloomy, but it's also warm and I just love how it portrays this beautiful nation ❤
It was a Swedish singer called Monica Törnell who made this song famous. But it was written by Ted Ström 1984. In the later years another singer called Jerry Williams did it too. It's best by Monica Törnell I think, then Jerry Williams
But Jerry Williams cover is better :) Subtitles is not correct. In Vintersaga they sing about diffrent citys in Sweden. But in the video subtiles was something else :p
A bit surprised that Monica let them use her arguably best selling song for this, it's not like she likely is short of money, but perhaps she just likes Volvo
Legendary hockey player Börje Salming by the fire place.
I love how they pay him to be in it for a second

Yes! Recommended!
Its here on YT; Vintersaga by Jerry Williams (Tor Halvor Solheim - best sound)
Imo Monika Törnell version is the best.
Yep! Jerrys is my best version aswell. ❤
