My V50 D5 has almost 430k km on it now. The entire engine, including its injectors, turbocharger, DPF, and everything else (except obvious parts like belts and water pump), are original since the car was manufactured - and they're all working fine!
This car always was the perfect underdog sleeper. Dare I say to see it get up on the bumper of that GT3 was like a work of art. And the meeting at the end, must have been like fighter ace pilots pulling alongside after a dual, "ah it's the black Barron, Misha."

Back in 1993 I started my own car club in southern california. It was an import car club with mostly Hondas (back when there was barely any performance parts for Hondas). We had about 13 cars. Back in those days the import scene much preferred to mimic and was inspired by the euro car look than Japanese. Neuspeed anyone?? My car was a black 4door civic. My dream car was the 1994 240hp Volvo T5. I liked sedans and wagons. Loved the box look
I have a 2003 S60 Volvo and even though it is stock with the low pressure turbo and i'm an old bloke, it will still put up a good fight at the traffic lights against a yobbo in a much more modern car if he wants to cut me off from the left merging lane. It's still very comfortable as i have chronic back pain after being rear ended by a P plate driver years ago. The 5 cylinder engine has been so reliable, i don't understand why Volvo's get such a bad rap !

@@wooly1950Nice. Mines been reliable so far, purchased on 62,000 miles, now on 78,000. Purchased in February 2022. So far the only problems aside from general maintenance have been fuel filler neck hose torn causing fuel smell in cabin after fill ups, only cost £140 to sort at a specialist, and the anti-skid service required pops up a few times every month usually when doing full lock steering at slow speeds, I'm told it could be ABS sensor or steering wheel clock spring, either way the light goes off after turning off car and back on so no concerns there. Sunroof is a must too, even in dull UK 😅. Enjoy

Seriously, you guys need to watch the Video twice. I just did and it was very worthwhile. Watch it once as normal and once zoomed into the rear view camera. The pulling away from a v70r in the technical sections, and the porsche coming back flying on the straights. The body movement of le wagonne makes for a great "neckFx". Then there is the sparks flying off in the high-G sections. Combined with the raw sound from the chassie and the roar and suck from the engine. This gave me "pure nordschleife vibes" if you know what i mean. To the owner(aka the Stig): Amazing Car To misha: amazing drive as always. Edit: 1½ times obv.
you really get a sense of the elevation changes by focussing on the rear camera. I'd never seen the track like that before. Had me confused for a bit though as the image is mirrored 😅
@jamesg2569 yes the elevation looks amazing from the rearview. On the front view its very mild and i think bc of that many people undererstimate what a rollercoaster-like track the nordschleife is
First time watching this driver.. He knows his stuff. And in a new car(For him).. Look at the man who passed, he drove at max, with a much more adapted and modern race car.. Here you se how high skill Stig has.. I am Impressed

I still miss my V70 T5 from 1997. Tuned it somewhat back in the day. Before I ended up in the Forrest with it the 5cyl engine produced some 443 to the wheels 😍
I bloody love volvos, there is no other car id rather have a crash in. I remember as a kid back in the 90s in my dads shit brown colour volvo 245, we were waiting at some train crossing and some young boy racers in a escort xr3i didn't see us stopped and went straight into the back of us at speed and his car was absolutely demolished and nothing at all happened to the volvo except the rubber on the bumper popped out and I got whiplash but it still amazes me how well built and strong volvos are!👊🏻💪🏻
I used to own a heavily modified Saab 9-3 Coupe (dark grey), It had better brakes, lowered springs & bilsteins, engine was 320bhp but a real torque monster. 4th gear rolls on were tremendous, Once left a newish looking 911 standing from 70mph. Drove the car to 140mph and he was humiliated in my rear view mirror. I lifted off , he caught up and went blatting past, beeped his horn and thumbs up.........All very friendly haha, Now I need a V70 T5
B5234t engine is so good. Guess this one has Downpipe, catback, air filter & a tune. Had the same on my 850 T5, it was damn quick! Did a V70 2.5T build with a 16t turbo build also. Did not tune it for the bigger turbo or 3" dp. Man that V70 took off!! Wheelspin on 3rd gear! Bent a rod bcz i had no tune. Have now a S60 T5 with a tune & catback. Moves decently!❤ Love these 2.3/2.5l volvo engines!!
Obviously a hot shoe in the RS is going to dust the Volvo, but you could see in the video that the V70 was keeping up in the corners and maybe beating it in the breaking zones a little bit. Not as far off for power as I was thinking either. Honestly, given the power this is making, I'm not surprised with the wheel spin on corner exit. I don't know that you'd gain enough traction dialing it back to justify the loss in cornering. Thus is life with a front driver. Everything's a tradeoff with suspension tuning.
The car that got me into cars was a 78 Volvo on megasquirt 2 with a HX40 and a built b230. I wasn't that impressed and he was like I haven't even touched the gas yet and we got on the freeway and the rest is history. When I watched the boost gauge wrap around a three bar and he was still hazing the tires in 4th... I knew I had to do this to my car. That was 20 plus years ago.
My dad had a V70 like 20 years ago. I remember the bodyroll being so extreme I thought we'd tip over in every fast corner. Bet that suspension has been tikled a little.
never forget the first time my mechanic friend (who helped me fix up my S70 volvo) took a 20mph corner at about 50mph and witnessing the AWD system take over at that speed; with tons of body roll, but it ate it up like a champ and kept going all of 50mph through the entire corner... even the non-wagons are underrated and just as fun if not MORE fun without the weight of the back cab weighing you down.
Hell yes, anyone can go fast in a straight line as golf r drivers prove everyday. Once they get to the corners it’s where us real drivers shine😂I’m not hating on the golf obviously it s a good all rounder but I’ve had a few and they are boring as anything like playing PlayStation

Suspension / handling was my main focus when i started this build, i did the performance mods at last ;-)
idk about that i have an 850 with only eibach springs and thing is f-ing solid in the corners.
