After this test, we are really looking forward to testing a manual version of the 178HP and 203HP versions of the 2020. Polaris is claiming a 4.9 second 0-60 with the manual 203HP version that would be fun!
Dave and Angie were very patient with my odd parts request! Dave was very helpful and willing to help with any of my stupid questions. Thanks Dave and Angie! Signed- the pest-
Thanks Dave, I have a good many of your parts on my 2018. I really like that rotrex supercharger you sale. Thinking really hard about a 4 wheel setup with that Rotrex.
I had the 2015 slingshot when it first came out , stock slingshot is grossly underpowered , I brought mine to DDM and had them install their supercharger kit , it made it acceptable , definitely look into getting a turbo or supercharger if you want to not lose interest in the slingshot because of the lack of power
Thanks fo letting us help you with the supercharger, still one of our favorite kits on our Slingshot, it is going to be really interesting to see how the new engine takes to boost!
i think both look sexy as hell. I'd stay with the 2019 just b/c the engine has been out for a long time vs the new motor. I don't think the 2020 manual will have much better performance than the 2019, however I love the looks better and the interior features as well. that's pretty much it. other than that both look sexy
If i had to make the choice right now i would go for the 2019. ...proven engine + aftermarket support. Ask me again in 2 or 3 years when the engine has all the bugs worked out and a rotrex kit available and my answer might change
It's a great video for gearheads, for sure. With that little difference in the ¼ mile, what I'd prefer to know is stats on reliability, braking upgrades, safety performance & maintenance costs. I like the speed stats just for general standing around talking to people but as a potential owner, what most will want to know is, is that engine better than the EcoTech? I've heard yes, but some real and further detail would be great for the average owner.
2.4L for now... Why?? Because I'm old school and can easily maintain/find parts for it. That said, I do have your supercharger installed on my 2017 and love the 300+ instant HP it pumps out. Make that happen in the 2020 version (and maybe... just maybe) I'll have a reason to buy another Slingshot! 😝
We are probably going to get the turbo done first on the new 2020, but all of us here are really looking forward to the supercharger on the new engine, 8500RPM redline with a supercharger is going to be a lot of fun!
Have several of your upgrades on my 2019 SLR. Really enjoyed the comparisons with the 19 and 2020 models. I'd like to see times on the SLR with the turbo installed... Thanks again.
Will do! We did get some video and comparisons with the turbo also. On the stock tire though, we were having serious traction issues, we are thinking of putting together a tire test video with one of our turbo setups in the future also, thanks for watching!
Would have been interesting to see a roll on comparison. With the extra torque of the 2019 I'm it would win there too. Not to mention you were shifting the manual extremely slow. You could probably have gotten 14s out of the 2019. I've seen them run those times. I also don't understand why they just didn't go with a set up like on a snow mobile. That automatic shifts much to slow.
Polaris had to make it available in Automatic .....missing alot of potential customers that don't know how to drive a stick.....or those who don't care to......In my opinion the GM is a proven engine and you give up very little.....and I would not even consider an automatic version.
Yeah manual at 203 hp is what you should have used. 2019 is ok but 2020 looks much more aggressive and sexy. These machines should not be auto.... if u can’t drive manual , one should learn. I’m just saying lol.
We look forward to getting one of the 203HP ones here to test, also a manual to test against these. We do really like the front of the new 2020, it does look pretty awesome. As for the automatic, we do love our manual, but have found that we are really enjoying the autodrive for just driving around. It is really nice to just put it in drive and cruise around, but when we want to have fun we definitely take out our 2016 manual :)
Hollywood Stan Yes they are very sexy, however no not everyone should have to learn manual!! I am glad they finally came out with automatic! Otherwise, we would never consider buying one. Even if someone knows how to drive manual, sitting in a lot of traffic sucks with a standard! It's about time they came out with automatic. They lost a lot of sales in the past years for not having it.
Princess 319 I respect ur opinion but certain machines should be made certain ways. Example I don’t think that lamborghinis or other big time exotics should be auto. It takes away from the heritage of those vehicles. Well, now that slingshots are auto drive go grab one if you haven’t already and let us see what you think. Either way thanks for the comment. Stay healthy!
@@HollywoodStan I understand your opinion and I'm not going to be getting a Lamborghini, so having them remain standard would be fine with me lol. 😁 I just want to try a Slingshot, so I am very happy they are finally automatic otherwise I wouldn't be able to drive one. I've been waiting for years for this to happen, because I didn't want to pay the extra thousands to convert the engine to automatic like I've read that some people have done the past few years. I've also heard from some people who can drive a standard, that they would actually prefer an automatic due to it being a more comfortable drive especially in a lot of traffic. I actually made an appointment this weekend for my bf and I to take a look at the new automatic slingshots & test drive one, so hopefully it will go well and we just might buy one! And hopefully the new engine will be ok and places will get accustomed quickly to working on them. I wish the SL came in the Miami blue color! I am a sexy female that needs to be in one of these and I occasionally would like to drive it too. My bf prefers motorcycles, but I don't like them & feel so unsafe on them! So I think I've gotten him excited to get a Slingshot! 😁 Kind of backwards right? That I'm trying to convince my bf that we should get this lol... 🤣
Princess 319 u need to start posting some things on ur UA-cam page. Maybe some footage of you and ur bf on the bike or better , you should do video on ur slingshot test ride. If u do one hit me up so I can see, and also I will subscribe to ur channel. I heard that the auto drive ones have a harder shift that can be a bit annoying considering you have no control . Does ur bf know how to drive a manual, if so he should teach you.... manual is sooooo fun but yes it can be bad in traffic. Anyway I’m definitely getting me one soon. Just weighing my options so I get the best deal. 👍🏼✌🏼
There is a lot of options for the stock 2.4L in the 2015-2019 Slingshots, we of course prefer our turbo or superchargers kits over the other kits out there though, check it out - www.ddmworks.com/DDMWorks-Stage-1-turbo-kit-for-the-Polaris-Slingshot-_p_905.html
@@Hendrixrides I wish you would. Seems like you have nothing to offer since I have 3 investment properties in California and 2 on Florida, I own slingshots in both states
Let us know which one would you pick, the 2019 with the 2.4L Ecotec or the new 2020 with the Prostar engine, comment below
Be curious to see the 200hp manual version in comparison! Curious on the 200hp version and Vanderhall comparison as well.

Great video, love the comparisons. Would love to see how much the 2019 slr improves with the turbo kit.
We did get some video of the 2019 after we installed the turbo, we will try to put that together in another video for you, thanks!

I’m trying to decide on a 2017 SLR with 6,000 miles or a 2019 Sl with 12,000 miles which is the better buy?

Automatics are good when done right. Wish the newer versions would implement a faster shifting automatic like a dual clutch system
Why didn’t you use the SLR 2020? More hp. Would have been a different outcome.

More than anything the brakes definitely need love 2021 S. An could use more on upper end alittle shy there,,,
When you driving the 2020 did you have to get off the gas a little in order for the gears to shift.
Nope, you can just keep your foot all the way down the whole time, no need to lift the ECM takes care of everything
Love 2019 SL !

👍🏻..also the cat got out..
We shot that scene a couple times and each time there was one that walked by, so we figured, lets just leave it in there and see if anyone notices :)
The GM engine is the way to go. I wish Polaris didn't put the Polaris engine in the Slingshot.
0-60 is actually 4.9 on the 2020
That's only on the SLR and R models
2.4 ECOTEC for me Because ZZP makes an amazing turbo kit for the 2.4

Slowest shifting in a speed test I've ever seen
Watch out buying in California without a 50 state epa sticker DMV will not register it and you'll be left with a pile.
