I can only attest to one or two people they do appeal to: my wife and I (or is it me? :) )! I'm an "avid motorcycle enthusiast", of over 40 yrs and my wife rode to "support my habit", but enjoyed riding her own 2 bikes over a 9 yr span. A few spinal disc fusions between us years apart and here we are. We picked up our 2020 Stealth R, manual of course, late June and just turned over 2700 miles today! We (I) were (was) planning on a 2019 SLR, with a greatly reduced price tag, BUT COVID happened AND Polaris upped their game 2 fold and WHAM 2020 Slingshot models came out. And we couldn't be happier, unless of course we could have our 50 yr old spines back. Our Dr did an amazing job, but I'm 60ish. PS: thanks for your honest review, I have seen a lot Slingshot reviews.
Awesome review bro! Always wanted to ride in one of these bad boys or maybe own one 1 day. Thanks jax! 🤜🤛 Edit: 3 of 5 vehicles i have are sticks. Good theft deterrent. Lol
These are awesome. I had a great time with one. I'm hoping they introduce the auto-manual option with a way to control shifting when you want and ignore it when you don't. Polaris told me (without saying it directly) that this is in the works.
I heard the same thing. If they did that and the response was quick, it would totally transform this option. I honestly didn’t mind it most of the time, just when I wanted to get a little friskier. 😉👍🏻
@@jax1079 My main problem was that it was very hard to push the transmission to peak in the automatic. So the peak HP numbers are almost unachievable. Having control over the shifting would change that and add a LOT more fun to what's already terribly awesome.
Never heard of you either but glad I hung in there to the end. Good commentary and assessment of the 2019 and 2020 models as I've rented Slingshots numerous times on vacation although the cutaways initially detracted from the review. Your summation is likely spot on especially with regard to value between last and this year's models. I too am torn as to whether the price diff between the SL and R is worth the money. If the R were $25K it'd likely already be in my garage. But for over $30K what else do you think would be better for open air fun?
I mean, if you're not wedded to the image or look of the Slingshot, I just finished testing the Ford Mustang convertible with the upgraded EcoBoost engine (330/350), and it's certainly as fast as the Slingshot, can drop the top, and will still function as a normal vehicle, which means you don't have to buy it in addition to something (like you would a Slingshot).
@@jax1079 I already have a Corvette Grand Sport, 350Z and an S2000 with a GT40 on the way. All manuals so I chuckled at your advice to learn to drive one. I'm looking for something more taxing along the lines of an Atom but not at close to 100K. The wife hates me driving with the windows rolled down so it's a single user's toy. Thanks for the reply and looking forward to your future vids.
Awesome lineup! Yeah, if you’re looking for a unique open air experience and don’t want to ride a motorcycle, the Slingshot is it. Not to mention, it’s an attention magnet (in a fun way). But it certainly won’t handle like an Atom or a Caterham. Best of luck with your decision!
You can get away with not wearing a helmet in a lot of places even if it's technically required like here in GA. The cops don't often know the rules as it pertains to these vehicles. As far as the Venice, I think it's really good looking in a lot of ways, but I imagine it's smaller. Seeing them both in person, I don't have great confidence that I would fit in a Venice (though I've never driven one), but I have plenty of room in the Slingshot. I think it's the more practical of the two. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
Fun review thanks. Just surfing slingshot stuff while I press F5 on my 2024 order status every couple minutes. It's definitely a fun machine. As someone who has had multiple convertibles and sport bikes I just want something different that I can take out for a blast with the wife and not have to yell at her sitting behind me. Also have you tried to have fun on a R1 with a passenger? It's soul sucking having someone on the back of a sport bike. All that fun and power on lockdown. Well unless you don't like your wife then that's not a problem. After the first wheelie I think you'd be sleeping alone for a long time.
PLEASE! Tell us low lives out here how tall you are before you start your review )-; So us low lives can get an idea of what it would be like to sit in a vehicle that you review.
What's so difficult about describing what a slingshot is? Except when someone is trying to be funny. Unfortunately that is the case here. Less the funny part.
Lol the GM ecotech is a bullet proof engine! Now if you need a part for your pro star engine it will cost you your first born. At least with the ecotec I can stop at any auto parts store and buy it cheap!
This thing started priced somewhat reasonably. Like everything else it has increased in price beyond what it is worth. Like everything else because all you dumbasses shopping for a monthly payment as opposed to what a product is actually worth. Like cars, motorcycles, and houses. Why is it so many do not consider what these big ticket items are actually worth and just buy based on what you can afford to pay per month? You can see this from a mile away when a salesman or realtor first asks your annual income and what you can pay per month. "How much you looking to spend a month?" Should be a big indication you are about to get screwed! Beware, because unlike a car with four wheels the steering wheel will not spin back to center when you drift, and you have to physically turn the wheel back to center before you can counter steer out of a fish tail or drift. In short be careful of spinning the rear wheel in a turn!

💯! I also really didn’t like the interruption of the power from the slow shift speeds. It detracts from the frenetic fun that the Slingshot inspires.
@@jax1079 I kinda liked the herky-jerky shifts. Made it easy to skip the rear wheel. :)

What's the life expectancy of the drive belt?
That I don't know, but they have a close knit community with forums where you could probably find your answer. 👍🏻

I'm torn between this and the Vanderhall GT.
